Unreal Tournament 2007 = PS3 Launch title.

All you FPS fans can rejoice :)

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6141640.html

Seven months after a snippet was shown at E3, Midway and Epic's shooter is confirmed for Sony's next-gen console.
As part of its pre-E3 PlayStation 3 conference in May, Sony brought Epic Games cofounder Tim Sweeney on stage. Besides saying that Epic had already received a PS3 software-development kit--which he said was "easy to program"--Sweeney also performed a tech demo of a shooter running on PS3 hardware.

The game on display appeared to be Unreal Tournament 2007, the flashy-looking, Unreal Engine 3-based successor to the popular PC shooter Unreal Tournament 2004. However, neither Sony nor Epic would confirm when--or even if--UT 2007 would arrive on the PS3.

Seven months later, the two companies have broken their silence. The January 2006 issue of PSM Magazine proudly proclaims that, yes, UT 2007 is coming to the PlayStation 3. Inside, the magazine also reveals that the game will be a launch title for the PlayStation 3, which is tentatively slated for a spring 2006 launch.

UT 2007 for PS3 is the second Epic shooter announced for next-generation consoles. However, the first, Gears of War for the Xbox 360, is slated for a general "2006" release date, meaning it could conceivably come out after the PS3 UT 2007.

For more on Unreal Tournament 2007, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of the PC version of the game.

Another good news about PS3 launch, I really wonder how many players this game will support for online killing, 64 for a very first time may be? :dopey: Well, may be not :indiff:

Driftster
aslong as they have a mouse + kb for the ps3 i'll be happy
Agreed. Hopefully PC users who can barely play shooters without a mouse and keyboard (like me) will be able to use this setup for the PS3 version of Unreal 2k7.

I'm 100% sure that it will support Mouse and Keyboard.

Unreal Tournament on PS2 supported it.

I even believe the DC version did.

Xbox didn't because there were no standard USB ports.

PS3 will, I'm positive. Epic is a developer who understands the need of mouse and keyboard on a console.

Here's the truth...

A producer for Unreal Tournament 2007 has confirmed that the game will not be released right away as a Sony PS3 game title. However, there will be a PC DEMO version available around the launch of the Sony PlayStation 3.

The producer went on to say that they have not scheduled UT2007 to be a PS3 launch title as yet, and they are not certain where some news sites are getting that information from.

One gamer asked the launch question to on Atari's message boards. Atari was the publisher of Epic Games' releases until they signed with Midway last year. Since the company's still actively supporting their last Unreal Tournament release, though, there's still an Epic Games presence.

Chances are Unreal Tournament 2K7 will be released near Sony PS3 launch date.

lol, and I suppose your source is the same source that tells you that talks are still going on between the blu-ray camp and toshiba right? *laughs*.

The truth, as you so eloquently put it, is that Mark Rein said it may be a launch title, but that depends more or less on the release of the PS3, as they are definately releasing the PC version before the console versions.

Given that a PC Demo will be released in Spring of 2006, when the PS3 is said to debut in Japan.

Given another 6 months of time to come to the US, I find it possible for a launch title, or a near launch title.

Not to mention Mark Rein also said that it "may or may not" be a launch title, which means that they have it planned to release rather quickly, or around launch.

Welcome :)

My-my, you get awful testy when you're proven wrong.

It's about to be a *WHAT!?!*

Nerd Fight
Nah, it's pointless to fight with assholes. You'll never win. No matter what relevent facts you point out that proves them wrong, they'll always dance around it like a coward.

So so true...

because once you've sealed the casket in your arguement with him, you'll forget to put a period at the end of a sentence..

and he'll capitolize and say "You don't know what you're talking about, if you don't even know grammar, then how could you know this stuff" blah blah..

Oh I know...I know

Drifter, you should be banned for making a hot chick hard too see in your avatar lol

guys, please stop arguing, let's comeback to the topic, shall we?

I'm pretty sure that it's been mentioned more than once by epic that they aim to release this title along side the PS3 if possible, however their main goal is to release it on the PC first. I can find out more info tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure. I'll talk to some friends.

Solid and Drifter - Nice to see butt buddies team up :) You still haven't shown me those links for those talks that are still going on, and if I recall, you are the only one who danced around that, not me. But please, feel free to give me more than your word and I'll change my mind. And Drifster, you still haven't grown up, that's fine.

edit:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6141640.html

Thought I heard this info a few weeks ago from former contacts, I thought I'd post a bit more so you could see for yourselves.

Again, as I stated in my post, to be launched on or around PS3 launch.

And I don't take your source to be anything reliable...solid. Links are your friend, as is credibility, you seem to lack both.

guys, please stop arguing, let's comeback to the topic, shall we?

Why bother coming back to this topic? It's done! Poof!

The Man has spoken. No UT2k7 for PS3 launch. No amount of tap-dancing by anyone is going to save it now, no matter how much BS they're going to try to fling. Again, why? The Man has spoken.

Fin. :)

Again, solid gives only word and no proof, and only ATARI (who I might add has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH UT2K7) has said anything about it "not being aimed for launch".

No one else has DENIED it.

ANd please, we're still waiting on your link Solid...again, you just give us your "word" and expect everyone to fall back on it. Till then, the topic remains justified. :)

I read that it wasn't going to make it as a PS3 launch title too and that the PC version takes priority. Saw it on the PCZone/CVG site I think although it could have been IGN, can't be bothered looking either way

Okay, :) Here's how this works.

PC Version DOES indeed take priority. They will put the PC version on the market before any console version, however, there are no limitations on a time frame in which it will be released (think GTA PS2/Xbox six month delay).

However, Epic has stated that they are aiming for a PS3 launch window or time frame. Meaning they would like the early penetration of the PS3, which is generally a 60 day window. The fact that they acknowledge that they are aiming for such a time frame means one of two things:

1. If the PS3 launches in late 2006, and UT2K7 is released Summer 2006, then it is possible to have a launch title.

2. If the PS3 launches early, and they don't have a PC version ready, they will not release a console version.

That's it, plain and simple.

A ton of websites are reporting that UT2k7 wont be a launch title. There's no need to look anymore. It's a done deal.

I'm still waiting to see those "ton of websites" solid.

I mean, so far, all I've seen is speculation on the part of a forum member who has said he "works" for Atari, who doesn't even HOLD the license agreement anymore.

Other than that, Epic has said that they are aiming for a launch or near launch date, but no denial has been made.

Please, who me a link, as you have so frequently failed to do, ala blu-ray / HD-DVD (which I might point out are COMPLETELY SEPERATE FORMATS contrary to your very explicit disagreement with me on the subject months ago). Wrong much? I think so.

Maybe if you pulled your head out of your ass for just five minutes, you'll spot them on your own. I'm not your mommy, so find them your own. Besides, why should I care if you look like a clueless idiot or not?

I have looked, and I have heard, and I know the deal.

Here's what YOU should be understanding.

The only "fact" to negate this story, comes from a user on a message board who claims to work for Atari. This would be fine and dandy, if atari had ANY SAY whatsoever in the matter, but they DO NOT. They also would have NO IDEA as to when it would release, on what platform, etc. So, that is automatically OUT of the window.

Sony has neither confirmed or denied this. Simply put, "no comment" does not mean no, it means we don't want to say yes if it doesn't happen.

Employee's at Epic have said they are aiming for a launch release, aiming means it will release with, or very soon thereafter. Think DOA4 on the 360, it was originally "aimed" for a launch title, but took some touch up time. This is the same case with UT2K7, it could very well make launch, and it could very well be delayed a few months, but the point is, it is aimed for that window.

Now, You get very upset when you have nothing to fall back on except for speculation, so please, refrain from crying so much.

And I still want to see those blu-ray / hd-dvd talks LOL. I'm never letting you forget that, since you so ARROGANTLY told me I was wrong on MANY occasions...only to have it blow up in your face. You don't want round 2 do you? Because I can tell you right now, you might get it :)

Erm, well, actually, in a debate when you're arguing the point that someone else has made, you're kinda obligated to show your proof - otherwise you just kinda look like someone who's saying "It's this way because I said so!"

It pointless to point them out, because this guy has a habit of pathetically stating something like, "Oh, that writer is wrong, because..." or "That information is wrong, because... blah, blah, blah...." And the reasons he often gives are so self-appointed and baseless, but sound relevent by the use of fancy word dancing. He's kind of like a politician. He talks a lot, but never says anything.

Besides, people I've chatted with in private can easily find the articles he requests, so why can't he find them? Because, he doesn't want to find them and face that he was wrong, which he obviously is. You see, he has a childish way of never admiting he was wrong. He considers himself an expert on this topic, and nobody is correct other than himself.

So, why bother pointing them out to him. He's just going to resort back to acting like a stupid, annoying idiot again. So, why should I waste my time pointing them out?

No pics of the game so far? That would be nice. And I can play it fine with a controller, even better than with a mouse + keyboard I think, since I don't play games on the PC anymore.

...Because you're automatically obligated to prove it to us. Why is it so hard? I like you, but stop being immature, man; you're ridiculous.

Imagine if, out of nowhere, a doctor told you, "I found cancerous tumor in your system."

How much sense would it make for him to reply, "FIND IT YOURSELF! :grumpy:" after you asked where?

Even though I've shown you PROOF that Mark Rein, VICE PRESIDENT of EPIC GAMES has STATED that they are AIMING for a launch or near launch window, that it all depends on WHEN the PS3 releases, and that they ahve NOT denied the fact that it will or will not launch with PS3...you still say I'm wrong?

If Mark Rein say's "It's possible to launch, but it all depends on when the PS3 launches" then I believe him. He didn't say "no, it won't be a launch title".

He said, if the PS3 releases after the PC version is finished, then it is very possible there will be a PS3 launch release, ESPECIALLY since BOTH versions are very easy to port, considering it only takes a mild conversion from Direct X to Open GL (again, as EPIC has stated, NOT my OPINION).

All of this information = Proven and true.

What you say = speculation and such.

Now, if I'm dancing, then you must be a freakin circus. I've provided many links, with many official quotes, and I have read a few of the articls you have talked about, ALL OF WHICH are UNOFFICIAL and contain "quotes" from someon who MAY OR MAY NOT work for ATARI (who AGAIN, has ABSOLUTELY no SAY in the matter).

Stop getting all huffy puffy. You were wrong about Blu-Ray / HD-DVD talks, you insulted me over and over, and now you ignore it, and now you're wrong about this, and again, you dodge the matters at hand by insulting me. You're pretty weak imo.

The fact that you can't find the links I've gathered my information from is proof my "speculation" is fact. You simply want to continue with an argument for your self-sexual gratification, and you wont get it from me.

Continue if you want, in similar fashion you always have.

DUDE. You are SO lame, Solid. You have some issues.
