This review is about Unreal Tournament 2004. Since 2000, Unreal Tournament has been one of the best first-person shooters in a long time. If you seen G4 show "Arena," you will have seen what Unreal Tournament 2004 is about. I was very shocked about getting a new computer for Christmas. This wonderful HP desktop PC will finally allow me to play some of the most recent games. I do sacrifice losing DOS support for some of my old games, but at least I have something to definitely play newer games. I had sort of an interesting story on UT2004. When I was at the Houston Galleria (big ass super mall), I had some money to shell out after selling my old school books. Afterwards, I wanted to get UT2004. The EB Games there had UT 2003, not 2004. I went to the GameStop, and the guy said they didn't have it. But when I turned away, I was like "ah!" UT2004! And even better- found a two-disc DVD version. So, I was very ecstatic to get this game at long last. And now, the review. NOTE: Before I advance, my version of Unreal Tournament 2004 is the two-disc DVD version. It contains UT2004 on one disc, then a special bonus disc complete with videos and tutorials on making your own objects.
OTHER INFO:
Unreal Tournament 2004 is a game in which you play in the ultimate death sport... literally. Way late into the future from UT classic, you are into a world with more contests to compete in and some new features. For one, you have vehicles. Some of the different match types include the return of Assault, Capture the Flag, regular and team deathmatch, Domination (called Double Domination), and even Last Man Standing. Some new modes include Onslaught (take over power nodes and destroy other teams's power core), Bombing Run (think Rugby with guns and without passing the ball or getting tackled), Invasion (all opponents on team are allies by fighting against invading aliens), Mutant (???), and some other mode I forgot. Games are fast paced and highly varied. Only slow-paced mode is Assault.
PROS:
beautifully-done graphics and amazing environments; offline and online play... just two ways to enjoy dealing punishment; great variety of characters and weapons; many ways to deathmatch, be it free-for-all, team play, or one-on-one; (especially with 2-disc DVD) get a tutorial on making your own weapons, vehicles, and levels; great music
CONS:
Assault can be pretty slow-paced; some vehicles can be tough to control; not recommended for people not wanting to play through the game and have long matches; may cause lack of sleep, dumping of your lover, forgetting of your parents' birthdays, etc.
FINAL VERDICT:
X-Play loved it, it was featured on Arena, while still awaiting Unreal Tournament 2007... this game is simply amazing. I've played the game for two days, and I love this game. I was just really fortunate to get this game while out shopping. If you don't believe this is a great game, just try playing through match after match with Deathmatch, give Bombing Run a chance, or maybe do Onslaught. Whatever you do, I've enjoyed this game... and maybe you will too. (Final Verdict: 10.00/10.00)
