Unrealistic mileage?

Is it just me, or are the mileages of the cars in the GT4 Used Car Showrooms....way the hell off? For example, they've got a '96 240SX at 36,XXX miles!!! National average would put it at about 108,000...and it's not like this is some specialty sunday-drive, or even a high-end, car. I could imagine some cars in there having those miles, like NSX's and such(not that I'm giving any particular credit to them, they were just the first model of that sort available that popped into muh head)...but Civics and 240SX's and the like..? Doesn't seem very true to real life...try going to www.ebay.com or www.autotrader.com and finding a ten-year old Civic with under 40,000 miles...

UPDATE: Just to further this...on Autotrader, I found three in the entire USA.

Does it matter? Also, since when does the same dealer have a $3,000 Civic and a $220,000 Aston Martin? Obviously realism wasn't taken into consideration ;) And how often will you find a 6.2 mile 10-year old daihatsu Midget? Then again, can they cover 6.2 miles in 10 years? :D

This might be a little off topic, but I do have a question about mileage. I got the "secret" black cars the other day and found out they come with about 30k - 40k miles on each... For some reason I feel like this makes a difference in performace and it's bugging me. I searched around and found something on this subject, but it was in a previous GT. So my question is, does mileage still effect the performance of a car with over 30k miles? And how much of a difference is it? Thanks in advance.

It doesn't really matter. But on that note, heh, most brand new cars have at least one hundred miles on them.

It's just a number. The difference between a 20,000 mile Toyota Vitz and a 40,000 mile Vitz in the game is maybe only 4 or 5 HP, if that.

Yes, it is a little off-topic, but oh well. Your problem is that since they're high-mileage, you need to buy the rigidity refresher plan for each car or else they'll be undriveable. Also, the black cars do have a little bit less horsepower than the regular versions, but it doesn't make that big of a difference. The Rigidity Refresher is your main problem. Also, don't forget to change the oil, but I'm sure you've done that already.

I've got two '85 Mazda RX-7 GT-Limited's. One with 50,875.7 miles, and one with 6.2 miles. Both are fully modified, and after oil changes on both of them, max HP on the one with 50K is 407hp, and the one with 6.2 miles, maxes at 429HP. So high mileage definitely has an effect on peak performance.

Huh...I had never heard that, wheelow. Good to know. And Stangkiller_6.0, is your name a reference to the '05 GTO or the C6 Corvette? :D

UH, a used one?

But yeah, even for a used one, that's incredibly unrealistic.
A used Aston is going to be other Used Exotic cars, not a car that can easily be bought for under $30,000.

Both actually.... couldn't find a GTO avatar on this site, so I used the vette. Guess I have to wait till I have enough posts to put up a custom.

As VR6GTi said, in Japan, where once again the game is pretty much based off of, 30,000 miles is a whole lot of miles. In Japan, most cars are only good for around that many miles before you have to sell it. I believe at around 60,000 miles or so, your car isn't legal for road use anymore. Also one of the reasons you see Japanese engines that are imported with low mileage is because the motors aren't legal there anymore because they have too many miles.

Yah I've been looking for used cars to buy on autotrader and it's impossible to find very many cars under 90,000 miles on them that are 8 yrs old.

And that's exactly why the skylines you see being imported into the U.S. by motoRex, all have 30,000 miles or less on them.

I'm not sure why they put 40K miles on the black cars. This is WAY beyond the useful life of a race car. I guess the previous owners rebuilt everything before they put them up for sale in the Used Car Showroom.

Ok, here's what you do - Oil change and body refresher - it may be down a few HP over a new one but nothing huge.

thats pretty interesting.. i wonder wat they would do if i attempted to import my ford maverick with 380,000k's on it? :sly:

that mileage is not unreasonable some people do not drive their cars all the time, or have multiple cars, my 96 T-bird only has 46,000 on it, 20,000 of that comming in the last 3 years, so it happens. I think they wanted the ars to have a range of milage, it really doens't matter too much, once it's past the point that it needs the refresher

Just to clear up some myth. In Japan, you can drive cars for as long as you want and they will still be legal. However, there is a inspection system that increases with every passing year so it makes it rather expensive to keep a car running in Japan if the car is more than 3-4 years old. This is to encourage people to buy new cars and keep maintainence low. A sub reason to this is that this helps the export industry to rid the used but well maintained cars to people from around the world like us. It a clever economic scale of keeping things running and interest in new cars in Japan up.

Its not uncommon to find low milege in Japan. Oh, one more thing...the figures for the game mileage is actually from the Japan version, which should be in kilometers. This should actually make it slighty higher than what you see. They didn't convert the figures into miles.
