Hello everyone! I happened by this website on accident and decided I would drop a line. I am 32 5'11" and about 225. I haven't lifted weights in about 10 years. At that time I weighed 175 wourked out cassually and had a max of 225. About 3 months ago I had the varsity scouts over to my house ( I am a scout leader) They saw my old bench in the basement and wanted to max out. So I decided I would give it a go myself. Much to my amazement I was able to put up 265. 40 lbs more than I have ever done. I still can hardley believe it. Any thoughts on uncommon event? I allways enjoy reading about others success, it makes me want to get back into shape and start lifting again.
Well thanks for letting me intrude.

It seems to me that your unexpected gain in lifting is due to the fact that you say you are much bigger than you used to be.
You're 50 lbs. heavier than you said you were 10 years ago. That's a lot of weight. Even if you think that the weight gain is centered around your belly ;) , you certainly have added muscle in the process. You just might not be able to see it. This I think is the biggest factor in why you put up an extra 40 lbs on the bench than you had in the past. You're just bigger now than you were then.

Also, a lot of weight lifting is mental. If you were siked up to find out what your max was while all your friends were standing around watching you, you may have been extra pumped up to do a bit of showing off. ;)

I would definately recomend that you start lifting again. As you have not in such a long time, you can really expect to see some huge gains and changes in your appearance very quickly.

i remember being out of school with the flu for like a week. after i got better, i went back to weightlifting class and benched up 225 for 6, a big record for me.

so you never know when or what could happen. but uh.....yeah.
