update 1.06 DID NOT fix the 4165 KB save file issue...

...after having a game save file that was unusable with update 1.05 (it got to 4165 KB), and after downloading update 1.06 (and update 1.05, as I had erased the game data utility several times over the past few weeks in order to try and fix the bug), MY GARAGE IS EMPTY. The Profile blade in GT mode still says I have driven over 6,000 miles, still says I have 150 or so wins, and my A-spec and B-spec levels are the same, but now instead of 100+ cars, I have 0. And my game progress plummeted, from about 60% to 22% (trophies earned stayed at about 45%). To add hilarious insult to injury, the 50 gold trophies I had from golding the B through IA license tests, are now somehow 54 (more than before?!) bronze trophies. And I have no license where it should appear next to the trophies. I refuse to buy a new car, as until I do that, I cannot actually get into the A-spec, B-spec, special events, or license to check. Also, when I check the game save on the XMB, it has shrunk from 4165 KB to about 300 KB, still says 383 days, right number of credits (about 13 mil), but instead of the 2010 mercedes I was in when I last played before my save file bloated, upon installing the update 1.06, the name of the car changes to '--', as I have no cars.

Oh, and the first time I loaded up the previously unusable save, it rifled through the levelling-up unlock messages, and I ended up with both a kart ticket and a ticket 1000 (just a kart ticket every time I've tried reloading everything with my master backup since). And yet somehow, through all this (I have not been able to play for over 2 weeks now), I still care enough about this game to come here and see if anyone has the same problem as me, and perhaps for suggestions on how I might fix it. The only feeling stronger than my frustration with this is how much I miss playing my save file, with my cars.
 
that sucks man. i had a feeling that this game save file fix would only apply to files that havent reached the limit yet, not the ones that were already over the limit

for me it was obvious it would be so. mby it isn´t possible to recover those broken saves. instead they could only manage to prevent such s**t happens in the future
 
...it just baffles me that it DID recover the progress of my broken game save, but not the cars, or the correct game progress stats. I CAN'T be the only one out there with this issue, someone else out there whose file exceeded 4165 KB, weigh in on this.
 
Mildly shocking they didn't specify when they said a fix was coming that they meant a pre-emptive fix for future saves and not a retroactive one for saves that are already broken. I'd be devastated if I lost my cars now, and my save is over 2,000 (in-game) days old now. I have about five backups of it!

Also I'm not sure if it was you or not, now, but at about 4am (GMT) this morning when the patch first hit, someone mentioned in a very fast-moving and now very long thread that they had lost all progress in A and B-Spec, but I can't remember if they said their garage was empty or not.
 
I used the kart ticket and ticket 1000 (got a miata, essentially my gran turismo experience so far, distilled down into a singular moment). Anyway, I poked around a bit, and the reason my progress has gone from 60% or so to 22% is that I lost all my a-spec and b-spec progress (even though the bar at the top of the screen still has me as level 29 a-spec and level 7 b-spec). Same for the special events, progress gone. The licenses, now they made me laugh. The reason they went from 50 x gold (gold on B through IA) to 54 x bronze, is that I now have bronze trophies for everything but the final exam (lap battle) for every license (6 licenses x 9 tests = 54 trophies), including S (which I hadn't even attempted before my save file bloated!). So OF COURSE I have no license, bizarro me hasn't completed any of them!

For what it's worth, Kaz tweeted that the update would only fix the save file glitch moving forward. If the file was already at/past the limit it was beyond saving. As for recovering some of the stats from the broken save it's not that odd. My cousin got a new PS3 and some of his stats were the ones from his play time on the old system but he had zero cars and the starting credit value. It's like some stats are saved on a server somewhere.
 
The broken save files probably crossed over whatever exact limit where the game can't handle it anymore, and stopped writing data at that point. So that all of the data isn't actually written to the file, but got cut off partway through. There's no way to recover data that was never stored.
 
So far, I have yet to update GT5 to 1.06 because I am still progressing through most B-spec events. But I will be constantly backing up data to a thumb drive as I progress. My save file has already reached ~450 kb with a handful of cars in my garage (not enough to create a warehouse, and to me that's good because I conserve save data) and NO GT TV or museum visits.

I will update GT5 to 1.06 when I am ready, and until then, I will be offline.
 
That's the ****tiest **** man... :sick: :guilty:

Brings back memories when my memory card stopped working on good old PS1. I lost maybe thousands of hours into a few games. That was shocking at the time.
But only thing you could do in a situation like that is to start it over with the game you love. You'll forget it after a some time into your new game save. 👍

You're missing out on massive amounts of EXP points by not updating. They've doubled sometimes tripled.

I'm A Spec 28 B Spec 35, 150 cars and have a save file of 610KB, so i've no idea how that other guy could've hit the threshold of 4165KB or what ever it is?

I found a backup of my game save that I must have made out of pananoia right after I golded the licenses through IA, but that was forever ago, so I have SOME cars, but I still lost hella progress. My PSNid is tallguy45 by the way, name's Jeff. Glad to meet ya's.
 
OP, sorry to hear that. Do you still have that 13mil? If so then the cars should be easy -- unless you have chromeline and/or stealth cars. In which case I'd write a long complaint to Sony.
 
I sure hope it is fixed and save files can now go beyond 4165kb, as my save file is still growing and is over 3700kb now.:nervous:
