I haven't played for a couple of months so today update 1.06 came up when I turned the game on.
I knew it was out and just wanted to test it to see if my "cheapest way around" workbook needed to be modified.

The problem is that when I use the R8 LMS (Team Phoenix) prize car the game freezes at the beginning of the race. I have used other cars (RBJ, Rocket, AMG VGT Racing) without an issue but every time I select the R8 the game freezes.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

FYI: It is only this event. The car/track combo works fine in arcade mode (single race). The car works fine on the other S class events (where it is allowed to enter).

UPDATE It seems that if there is another exact same car in the line up it will also freeze (whether or not your R8 is modded)
This is also the case for the Mclaren F1 but it will freeze if there is a McLaren F1 in the lineup regardless of the model (97 racing or 91 BMW modded)

Is it only on this event? Have you tried the same car in other events? Does it work on Apricot Hill in arcade mode?

I have a slim, and I am also experiencing this. I was using the R18 and had the lock up.

So far I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the game and I get the same lockup. What I found to work, as a work around for me, was to load another race, finish it then try Apricot Hill.

I have a slim.

The last thing I tried was doing Apricot Hill in arcade and then going back to the 20 minute challenge.
I had finished a 3 lap race in arcade but still froze.
I might try doing another of the S races to completion and then back to Apricot Hill. It will be tomorrow though….

Have you tried deleting your game data (not your save data obviously!) and reinstalling from scratch? I just did this recently having had an issue with the GT300 championship from buying the game. It would crash every time. Deleted the game data, started the game up, reinstalling every update as well, and it's fine now. Had to redownload the 15th Ann DLC stuff for it to appear in my garage but once I had it was all there and back to how it should be.

Happened to me too but with a Toyota GT-One. This is the first time the game has actually completely froze on me (I have a Slim).

I think everyone is subject to a big ol' helping of "locked the 🤬 up" at any time and place now. I've had 1.06 since it came up and locked up just this morning simply by hitting "seasonal events". Buggiest game of all time:irked:.

Same here, but so far with any car I’ve taken there. Hit the power button on the PS3 and get three beeps, then a “Do you want to submit” message and a 2-3 hour database check that actually takes under 5 minutes.

I have found though, and maybe it’s luck, if you:
1. Do everything to your car BEFORE entering the race from the S-Class menu, such as get in, tune/adjustments, GT Auto, etc...
2. Quit your game from the XMB menu.
3. Start the game and go straight to the S-Class races, Apricot Hill, then start race (Green Flag). I’ve had no problems (so far).

All the other S-Class races are fine. This is clearly from the 1.06 update as I’ve never had this problem, nor read any threads specifically about Apricot Hill.

This is similar to my experience with GT5 at Circuit de La Sarthe. After a patch from around 2.02 or so, I could not look behind me on the Mulsanne Straight without it locking up. Two updates later there was never a problem again. Let’s hope for a fix or unintentional fix.

Seems to be fixed now. Tried different things but what seemed to work was:

- Backup gamesave
- delete gamesave
- delete gamedata
- re-install game
- Download all update (1.3GB)
- restore gamesave

After that I was able to run the race with that car no problems. I have only entered the race once since though.

Well, the issue is back but slightly different.

I can run the race as long as I don't change the settings in the options menu (after entering the race). If I do then the game freezes.

It is happening for two cars now
Audi R8 LMS (Team Phoenix) '12
Nissan GTR N24 Academy '12

Exact same situation, touch the settings and the game freezes.

This might sound stupid, but try clearing GT6's cache, go to Options > Network > Clear System Cache.

It does say that it removes temporary data that has been downloaded, but in GT5 this small option not only fixed quite a few issues, but also could speed up some loading a tiny bit.

happened to me twice this morning at apricot hill 20 minute race - crashed at very start of race as first video pics of cars appear. My car HSV-10 Base Model '12

And i had adjusted settings both times before the race

Update - today was OK with same car but I went straight into race having changed car settings in garage environment.

I've just tried this event with the Team Phoenix R8 LMS and nothing went wrong. :odd: This could be a tricky bug to fix.

Tried early on the 2nd GTACAD qualifier, I get the hud and boom. Freezes up like molasses on a Winter's day.

Only way around was to load up a similar Datsun Z, and mess around with it then try again.

I have this problem using the Rocket for this event. After the first lockup I restarted, then cleared the cache as per Con 360's suggestion and went straight to the event. No Rocket in the lineup and tried to start the race and locked up once again. I'll have to skip this race for the time being and come back later to see if there is any difference. I have an old Fat PS3.

UPDATE: Ran the Brands Hatch event and cleared it then returned to Apricot Hill event and went straight in started the event and completed it without any dramas. Truly bizarre. Guess I don't have to worry unless I want to return and run the event again!

Frozen twice in 10-lap Ascari, forget which car. (probably Mustang or other American V8)

When it happened, the picture stopped at a certain moment with the sound kept going. It seemed the control still worked, but obviously I couldn't do anything right without vision. A few seconds later I heard a crash. Some more seconds later, the vision came back and I was facing a wall.

I quitted that race and started over. Happened once again at the same corner. Quitted the race again and also quitted the game.

The next day, it came back to normal and such freeze never happen again.

An update of my experience for those interested.

While my experience may differ from you, since the latest update (v1.07), I've tried the Apricot Hill 20 Minute Challenge every other day since, with various vehicles and have had NO lock-ups with the beginning animation.

Actually the race is fine, but now when the A.I. stops in their pit the... well I don't know what to call it so let's go with "The A.I. Takes a Pit Stops and I Get Stuttering" effect. I find the closer to the pits I am, the more pronounced it is to the point where it freezes (0 to 1 FPS) then straightens out and I continue on.

I also found, for example another compact track, the Brands Hatch 15 Lap Challenge that if I'm in the Indy layout parts of the track I get the stuttering, but not as bad. When I'm in the trees (Grand Prix section) it's smooth and no issues.

They'll get it right eventually I suppose.
