Precisely. This thread can be summed up by me complaining about GT4 not having premium looking cars.

{begin sarcasm}The graphics in GT4 suck. I want a GT4 spec 2.0 update to give me 250 better looking cars with cockpits. I don't expect to pay anything for this, and god forbid I buy this game called GT5 that came out. Why should I have to pay for another game when GT4 would be perfect if it just gave me cockpits, more cars, more tracks, more options, online racing, and weekly updates. PD sucks as a video game company because they will not give me this for free.{/end sarcasm}

When driving a car in real life I want to see as much of the road as possible. A quick glance at a tach is all the time away from track concentration that is needed. My eyes are wide open trying to get as much visual information for situations ahead. Using the bumper view gives me a much more realistic driving experience with that in mind. Straining to see out of cockpit view is not what my eyes see when driving a real car.

Guess I've never viewed the cockpit view as anything more than a gee ain't that somethin' novelty. I'm just not that mentally capable to be on the "wrong" side of a vehicle either, heh.

Great post sir. 👍

I used to use the bumper cam but what I hate about it is that when racing with other cars you have a invisible bumper that sticks out in front of where the point of view is so I always ended up bumping cars in front of me.

So really it's not a bumper cam. Rather a in car view without the car being visible.

The same problem exists with the standard cockpits. You can't see the front of the car plus on cars with shorter bonnets I found that the bumper was alot further out then it should have been.

Yeah, that's so true. I've always wanted to know exactly where that view is supposed to be.

News flash, the cockpit view is the exact same perspective as bumper cam. You just have to remember when you're in a samba bus that there is nothing in front of you. The rest of the cars are about the same and you'll learn how close to follow after a few hours of using it. I still hit drivers occasionally, but I make it a habit to follow from a safe distance so it doesn't happen often.

Knowing the car width is a bigger issue...but you'll know you are hitting your apexes by the sound of the rumble strips.

How do you drive your real car and not get bugs in your teeth, dirt in your face, or wet when it rains I wonder? My cars didnt come standard with see-through dashboards, insturment panel, side supports, wheels, egines, etc. Heck it wasnt even an option!:D

Seriously? I am curious how you know the OP was "screaming" for cockpit views, even similar to GTPSP? Did I miss that somewhere?

Lots of sim racers refuse to drive in wonder woman, invisible, vehicle view. You say it like its a bad thing. When a game is marketed as the Real Driving Simulator, its hard not to expect realistic view, and not an arcade view.

Cockpit view without peripheral vision or th ability to turn ones neck is hardly realistic. No simulated gforce either...not to mention total sensory awareness...

This. Bumper view is actually more realistic reguarding the information available. In a real car your head isn't stuck in on position and you are better aware of surroundings.

And? Your point being what? I dont see how it pertains to what is being discussed.

If you want to go down that road though, triple screens works well, so you can both see side mirrors and both side windows in cockpit view. Add head tracking and now you are only missing G forces, of which I dont think there is a comman home simulator in comman use for that right now. Forza4 does well with the triple screens, head tracking, and cockpit view in all modes though.

I am talking about the view. So you are honestly saying that invisible car is more realistic than a cockpit view? And to further go into it you are saying "in a real car your head isn't stuck in one postion", even though in bumper view your head is still stuck in one position, but now the car is invisible. You really think thats more realistic? I am amazed. You do know that when driving in cockpit mode you dont just look at the dash right...you glance to see your insturments and then back at the road right? Just like you do in real life.

Oh come on man, I was comparing 2 different views in a video game to what my eyes focus on in a real car.

In my real car, I have a full sized rear view mirror which shows me everything behind me. Until cockpit view has this, I cannot use it. I don't need a side view mirror if I can see what is (or is no longer) behind me.

If I had 3 PS3s, 3 copies of the game and 3 wide screen monitors, I might enjoy cockpit view, but I'm not about to blow that kind of money on this game.

I'll tell you, the 2.0 updated cockpits instantly vaulted that Caterham into top ten territory afaic so I'm happy with it for that reason alone. Frankly I think I'd prefer the current black mask of most standards to a low res bitmap any day. But I agree that being able to see the car body in cars where the body would be visible outside the cockpit would be a nice improvement.

Well, we almost never got an answer about wheels for standards and we're getting it.

Expressing our voice is important. I asked the same for Kaz too!

Great! that's what we need indeed!

Here's my tweet at the time, I was quite polite in it! :)

@Kaz_Yamauchi Loved the internal camera for the Standards, but like PD did on GTPSP, is there a way to display the front of the cars too??

@Kaz_Yamauchi That would increase the immersion over these cars a lot! In GTPSP it was great! Cheers!
