Had my ps3 60GB since launch date. And im considering upgrading to a slim, one reason being for the fact that the systems is smaller and the bigger disk space.
Question is, how do I go about transfering all my data over?????
You can:
1. Back it up using another hard disk/ storage USB device (remember, the PS3 does NOT support NTFS). Just either use the backup option or copy it by going on the object and pressing triangle.
2. OR you can take out the hard drive and copy the data from there onto another storage device
Then, when you get your new PS3,
1. copy onto the new hard drive by plugging into the PS3
OR
2. take out the hard drive.
You know you could just upgrade the hard drive. I have made a very detailed topic about how to upgrade the PS3 from 2 years ago. If I were you I'd keep the 60GB PS3 and just upgrade the HDD.
could do buddy, but the 60GB has only recently started having the odd hissy fit on me and started freezing. So Im not wanting to end up all setup ready fro GT5 and F1 2010 then get the ylod
Maybe try buying a new or used slim. Then swap the HDD between the 60GB and the slim. That way you can use the original fat PS3 for media and the slim for video games. But really when does this freezing occur and have you ever clean the vents on your ps3?
Trust me, get the Slim. I had warning signs of LDPS3 failure and didn't get a new one in time. I did save my game saves, from time-to-time, so I had those.
Just buy a new PS3, attach a CAT cable to the old one and transfer the data that way. Easy.
If you are worried that your launch Phat is going to die sometime in the future, you could probably still unload it for more money than it would cost to buy a new Slim. The secondhand on the CECHA hasn't really come down at all in the past year or so, and $350 is still a common asking price for them (though $300 is more "normal").
So yes backup the data to an fat32 formatted external hard drive. Buy the slim. Restore the data to the slim. Format the PS3's hard drive in a computer. Run the 60GB PS3 so it can format the hard drive. Sell the 60GB PS3. Profit!
Or if you wanted to you could just keep the 60GB and buy a slim. Import the data to the slim and save the 60GB for PS2 gaming purposes.
