upgrading

i was looking into upgrading my system with a new mother board and processor but i was wondering if i could get away with just upgrading the processor. is there any way to tell how high of a processor my mother board can handle? its a stock mother board with a amd2800 processor. thats probably all it can handle.

AMD's Socket A Athlons ended with 3200+, so there isn't much upgrading you can do.
