Power Supply

1GB of RAM

Video Card

Are there any suggestions you guys have without increasing the price more than $10-15?

The PSU is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Don't suggest anything for it. I have an odd case and my manufacturer is the only one who will provide one the correct size with the wattage I need.

I currently have a 2.3 GHz CPU, 512 MB of RAM,a 300 watt power supply, and an ATi Radeon 9550 video card. I need to upgrade because I just bought the Valve Complete Pack (which has every game on Steam made by Valve (HL2, HL2 Lost Coast, HL2: EP1, All the Source Games, etc.), so I need to upgrade to enjoy my $80 in these 15 games. With the added gig of RAM I'll be set with 1.5 GB which is gods plenty for most games. The X800 GTO is the cheapest AGP 8x video card I could find that will work for my needs, and according the the PSU requirements, a 350W PSU is reccomended and I do not want to chance frying my whole system because I cheaped out another $60. I think the grand total with tax and all is $315-ish. If you have a better suggestion on video cards mainly without upping the price much more than $10-$15, then suggest away.

Probably would rehaul the whole system (mainly CPU - which means a new motherboard too) if you want to play the latest source games...because from what I can remember the games are not just graphically intensive but also CPU intensive, and the CPU could act as a bottleneck...Also wouldn't recommend an X800 GTO, as they're quite old cards too (I believe they don't support SM 3.0 and are definitely a generation behind)

I'd definately get Corsair Value Select for the RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145505 It's a few bucks more but it is super reliable and tried and true. Gigaram isn't a very big name...

Yeah, Corsair Value Select is very good, Im running 2x 512's in dual channel on mine and it works a treat, not to expensive and very good quality.....

Oh and Ive got a question, how easy is it to replace PSU fans, Ive got a 380w one with 2 fans but I want to maybe put some cooler master or nexus ones in..... is this easy to do?

Depends. I believe the majority of PSU fans are soldered onto the mainboard in the PSU. So, if you're handy with a soldering iron it shouldn't be too hard. Another thing to remember is that the capacitors in the PSU will still hold a charge, even after you've removed it from the PC. So make sure you ground yourself! (or let the PSU sit for a few hours to let the capacitors discharge)

:grumpy: Note: I said changes not costing much more than $10-15 over the current grand total....

If the price is only $.50 more, then I'll def. go with CORSAIR. I know CORSAIR is more widely known than Gigaram, but a few months ago it was the only 1GB stick in that price range.

Well I bailed out on it all.

Already ordered those 2 items.

Going with G.SKILL on the RAM. Cheap and matches my 2.5 CL on my current 512 stick of Samsung. Hopefully I'll be able to have 1.5 GB of memory if I match timings :).

I managed to grow a pair and buy a PSU from NewEgg. If it doesn't fit, we have a Sawzall and some spare sheet metal. We make things work in these parts . I'm sure it will fit anyways.

Edit: Alright, another question.

Would a low latency 2-3-2-5 memory totaling 1GB be better than 1.5GB of 2.5-3-3-7? If the extra .5 GB isn't going to affect playing games like HL2, CS:S,BF:2 etc. as much as a faster memory timing would, then I would get the 1GB stick for the faster timings.
