Hello,

My PS3 lately has been lagging alot, lag spiking, taking way to long to load and rarely crashing. This happens on every game including GT6. Can somebody help me fix this issue?

Thanks

Edit: Rebuilding database and other tricks have worn off and now it is slow again and has frozen 3 times this week. Any help? Or any way I can get a replacement

Edit: Problem has gotten worse, I have made a post further down

Not sure about the fix but do a backup (savegames, gamedata, depends on the space you have on a spare HDD or USB key) just in case PS3 dies.

After that i would hook your PS3 harddrive to PC and do a health check on it. Can be time consuming. I hope someone with more PS3 knowledge answers. good luck

Sony got hacked and had to do some server maintenance, some got more lag and crashes than others and it was overloading PS3s but it should be fixed now or very soon. Just in case do as FranciRus said and maybe someone who knows exactly what is going on can help. Also this is probably for the PSN forums on Sonys site, not here. Hope some of this info helps. :)

It's been like this for a while now before any the hackers or maintenance, I thought it was nornal until I watched videos where people are scrolling without their game freezing every 2 mouse movements.
I've backed up my saves and I'm basically waiting for my PS3 to eventually stop working

Sorry everyone to bump this thread, this issue is back and now even worse :( my PS3 has frozen 3 times this week, stutters like crazy just about every race, lag spikes mid race for about 1-3s and still extremely slow at loading or scrolling. Changing transmission has become just about impossible. Anybody got and ideas ?

Sorry about the "issues at Silverstone" thread I created since that should've been this thread

I think you may just need a new PS3. They're pretty cheap now. Good luck.. :l

Yeah, trade it into GameStop or someplace like that. It sounds like it's working well enough to fool them when they test it, so you'll get full value (term used very loosely). Do it now before it's too late.

The freezing/crashing is normal for a PS3, mine & my friends PS3s crash at least once every 2 days. Other than that it just sounds very old, worn out, out of space, etc. Try deleting everything you don't need i.e. old messages or pictures/videos you don't need anymore. Same goes for games, if you have downloaded games you never play I suggest deleting them until you get a new PS3. Again, I wish you the best of luck & happy holidays. :)

Time to get a different PS3....Generally speaking, PS3s are built well, but these slim line/super slimline consoles seems to develop arthritis pretty easily. Funny enough, before Update 1.13, my GT6 also crashed a lot but then 1.14 fixed that for me. Now let me not jinx it...

If you're comfortable with computer systems, taking the heatsink off the CPU and applying new thermal paste to the base could help. Those kind of issues are often caused by the CPU overheating (sensors tell the system it's getting too hot, CPU gets dialed down, data gets bottlenecked and stuff starts lagging/freezing/crashing). Over time, the thermal paste that conducts the heat from the CPU to the heatsink base becomes less effective and thus can cause the CPU to overheat. You can pick up a tube online or at your local computer hardware store for less than 20$ and doing this is even known to have fixed the infamous Xbox RROD in some cases. The PS3 hardware obviously has a more proprietary architecture than a standard tower computer so I recommend doing a bit of research before you try taking it apart.

I agree, this has been happening to me too. I can't even join lobbies without being timed out D:
