Here's my story:

Bought a desktop a few years ago.
Used it for a while, decided to get a laptop aswell.
Got the laptop.
Using dial up with a phone line extension cable.
Got broadband.
Modem wouldn't work unless it was plugged DIRECTLY into the phone socket.
Had to sit in the hall on the floor, or have a cable across the door.
Decided that it was a good idea to buy a wireless router.
Bought router and laptop card.
Used it for a few months.
Realised that my Laptop was in danger of overheating.
Decided to buy a usb adapter for the desktop, to stop myself killing the laptop.
Plugged it in to desktop, worked fine, but i had to stop encrypting the signal.

Right, now here's my problem:

Today, i found that i have got very slow connection from the laptop, if any.
I got really frustrated, and decided to see if the usb adapter would work.
So, i plugged the usb adapter in, and installed it.
Started using it, and realised i was getting the fastest connection speed i have ever had.

Why?
Why is the usb getting faster speeds than the card?

My desktop is never on at the same time as my laptop.
My laptop card is 54g (802.11g) , and so is my Router.
My connection is on channel 8, and the card and usb adapter use channels 1-13.

I cannot see any reason why the usb is quicker than the notebook card.
Can anyone else suggest why?

Is there a reason why it should do this, or is my laptop card faulty?

Thanks in advance

Jon

OK, now i am having NO signal with either of the network adapters, unless there are no walls in between the router and the adapter, but using the adapter with the desktop works. And the desktop has a wall between itself and the router.
Can anyone suggest why? I am thinking about taking the router back to the store aswell!

I have a wireless network and the PC sometimes looses its connection. Try to unplug the router and then plug it in after a few seconds, but don't unplug it for more than 10 seconds because it will clear the settings. That is how I resolve my infrequent connection issues and it usually works. Is all of your wireless equipment from the same company?

Yes, it's all Belkin stuff. The only things my router has plugged into it is the power cable, and the dsl line - it has a built in modem. Unplug it every night, as it gets EXTREMELY hot if you leave it on for too long.
I think the signal problem is something to do with having too many walls inbetween, as i can get a great signal at the end of my living room, which is about 60ft away from the router. And that's what i'm doing now!

You may have too many walls, but you shouldn't have to unplug it every night. You should be able to have it plugged in constantly. There is something wrong if it is overheating. Make sure you aren't covering the vents on it.

That's odd, it's got vents but not really enough. I don't HAVE to unplug it but it puts my mind at ease that it's not going to start melting overnight.
