Attach to the PS3 and reformat it. You can do this via your PC, too. Make sure to use FAT32.

How do i do that i have it plugged into the pc but it only lets me format in ntfs, And how do i format the usb hd by using the ps3?

Go to My Computer, you should see your HDD listed. Right click on it and select Format. Under File System, you should be able to select FAT32.

I've tried that with mine and I can't even get my computer to recognize the HDD except for in my Device Manager, but I still haven't been able to access it to re format it. Its been a headache

Windows XP wont allow you format FAT32 over 32GB.

Get hold of Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director Suite and use one of them to format the drive into FAT32.

EDIT: I have also heard this works (freeware), but I have never used it myself.

Right click on "My Computer" and select (left click) "Manage."

Open (click on +) "Storage" and left click on "Disk Management." Your HDD should show up here. Assign it a letter, and format in FAT32 (up to 32GB). You can also partition the HDD if you want, half FAT32 and HALF NTFS. That's what I did.

If your HDD doesn't show up in "Disk Management" I don't know what else to tell you. All my extra HDDs I've reformatted showed up here.

I use Windows XP and have so far formatted three USB drives (160GB, 320GB, and 500GB) to FAT32 for use with my PS3 without any problems what so ever.
