Sorry, i tried the search function, but seems no one have a confirm answer on this.
Since my PS2 is a 18000version, which can't not connect to the net, since the PC Card adapter is super expensive and out of production already.
And went to a shop, they said my only way is get a new PS2 if i want to play online.
But I wonder if it's possible to use a USB network adapter to solve this problem? Since i am having a wireless network in my home already, if it works, all i need is a USB wireless adapter, am i correct. But if that's ture, do i need any setup disc for my PS2 to work? Since i know Sony PS2 network adapter comes with some sort of installation disc.

You can't get the Sony Playstation 2 network adaptor? I've never heard of that not being an option.

There should be a list of compatible USB network devices for the Playstation 2 somewhere on the internet. Might try searching Google.

yes it's because mine is an early version PS2,
for those 10000, 15000 and 18000 model PS2 need to buy the PS2 PC-Card and external HDD to get online
but the newer version PS2 can get a Network Adapter and internal HDD, that's the difference.
And Sony Japan no longer produce PC-Card and External HDD for early PS2 anymore

anyway thx for your answer

Wow, I had no idea. What a bummer.

I would definitely get a modern PS2 then. That way you're spending your money on an improved product. The older PS2s were that reliable anyway, were they?

i dont know about the reliability, but i got mine since early 01, still working fine.
i will see, since i really like to play GT4 online...so i may end up buy a new PS2

o..by the way, i found out some shop in japan still selling the PC-Card and External modem for early PS2, but selling around 12000-15000 yen.
i may be better off to buy a new PS2 and a network adapter...
o but i want to ask, is it a must to get the HDD to get online?

Where did you find this info and how do I find if my PS2 is compatible or not? I'm worried because I bought my PS2 a long time ago; the PS2 had barely been out when I bought it. Thanks!

take a look the back of your PS2, if the model number start with 10000, 15000 or 18000 then you need to use the PC-Card network adapter
all other can use the new one, those start with 30000 or 50000
what i believe is if you buy it before 2002, it's very likey that your PS2 is early version. but check it out first

^ hey Ronnn! I have an original SCPH 10000 Japanese PS2........and it just has the PC Card slot........its annoying because you cannot buy the external HDD and BB kit anymore......and even if you could I doubt that it would work in the UK......I chipped mine and it plays all regions......Ive had mine since 2000 and it works fine!

As for the reliability.......the early ones were the best...they were alot better than the later versions.....firstly they were made in Japan (nothing is usually made in Japan) and also the components were of the highest quality (the had to make a good impression on the lauch of the first units).....the original weighed more aswell and had a better quailty feel and a very good lazer (can withstand chipping and having to play a demanding load of formats like ntsc, pal etc..)...I really think it was worth its huge price! About $700!!

I really want to go online but I doubt that I will ever with this v1 unit.....I may buy the new smaller PSTwo to go online......
