I need to buy a wireless adapter since my family uses a desktop and i recently bought a ps3. My question is how do i find the right one for my computer/modem? Will my computer still run off the modem or wil it switch to the wireless connection. Obviously as u can probably tell im not very computer saavy ao any help is appreciated.

My service provider gave me all needed to set up the wireless connection.
Go to their store and see what you need to get.

Good luck.

What kind of modem do you have?

Also, wired connections take priority over wireless so the desktop will still run a wired connection.

Unless your modem is also a router, your connection is going to look something like this.

If the equipment is close enough, you can plug it directly into the router. (recommended).

So, your PS3 needs a connection to the internet? Then you can grab a wireless router such as this one. I don't know how good the router is but it seems to be getting good reviews.

My modem is a westell model 6100. Nick that router seems like thats what i need but im using the usb for my psp ps3 and my sisters laptop (not all at the same time but for them all nonetheless). I'm just looking for something simple and with security like a
WPA or WEP whichever it is.

Well with a wireless router you hook up the router via Ethernet to your modem. Then you can use another Ethernet cable to connect the desktop computer to the router. Your psp, ps3, and your sister's laptop can connect via wireless to the router.

Almost all routers have a manual that you can reference to when you are not sure about something and most of the time they will tell you how to setup a secured wireless network.

I haven't fully understand but i try to sort it out for you:

So either your modem is only modem or it's a modem-router (here you have wireless or wired-only).
And you need wireless for ps3 and laptop?
So:
modem-only: you buy a wireless router(caution if your modem is a company modem, can be tricky) and access points (little usb cards) for the laptop (if it doesn't has wireless integrated). In this case, buying a whole new modem-router is a good alternative becasue the setup will be a ease.

if you already have a router ready modem: you good to go , maybe except the access points.
wired connection = less setup
wireless = Setup but NOT complicated.
And take Wap2 as wap can already be easily cracked.
If you need to buy all new, look for n-draft router and a.p., as it is the fastest, commercial available wireless connection for the moment

I have dlink router (120€ high range) and asus access point usb (20€)
