Use of ABS and Traction Control in Licences

Posted this in the big "who's done all 60 gold licences" but thought might be better to split out into seperate thread. I'm slowly getting through all the licences and as off last night standard at 46 gold/14 silver/0 bronze with the "S" licence now achieved. However I seem to struggle on a lot of the licences where you have decelerate and then accelerate out of the corners (b5, b6, iC2, iC3, iC8). Just wondering if there is a general rule of thumb for Traction Control and ABS. For the licences against other cars (i.e. not timebased as such) I have found the best setup (for me) to have traction control on 5 and ABS on 10 as I like to brake very late trying to over/undertake as many of the competitors as possible. Did a quick check last night (think it was the NSX on Tokyo 246) and think that lowering traction control to 2 made a big difference, although I could just be imagining it. Any help hugely appreciated.

ABS 1 and Traction Control 1 is good.

Sometimes, I don't use traction control if it's not needed.

ABS off is also ok but for some cars, it's too twitchy.
For the NSX one you just need to find a good line and try and force a slide into the first corner. Afterwards you just need to be smooth and finish off the final corner.

Any advice for a controller user trying to Gold the S-License test with the Ferrari P4?

Can only muster Bronze at most. I just need two more golds to get all golds for the S-License.

For the rallying tests turn TCS off as you need to slide to go quicker. On everything else traction control will make you slightly slower, not by much tho. If your stuck on one test reduce the TCS and see if you can still control the car. If you can then you will go quicker. TCS 5 is a bit strong really. Starting at 2 or 3 is probably better. 3 will still stop you donuting but still allows a bit a slide in most cars.

For ABS i have never felt any difference between 1 and 10. Although my common sense tells me that because ABS reduces the braking force so the wheels dont lock up then having ABS 10 should have less braking force and therefore be less effective at braking. See as ABS 1 never locks a brake just leave it on 1

Have you got gold on all the other license tests?
I found the S ones to be the easiest.

Try TCS @ 1 and ABS @ 1, all other options off; that was my setup.

Oh and I made L2/R2 my brake/gas, might help you as a fellow DS3 user.

I Golded all up too IB mid thru with all helps off except abs, its at 1, with a controller, I haven finished, because I got kinda bored so I am slowly doing it

Well makes a big difference. Did iA 1 and 2 (the leman ones), the iC 6 and 8 (Alfa Monza and Blind corner in the Nissan) and also the iB 6 (Tsukuba Supra) last night with ABS on 1 and traction control at either 0 or 1 and eventually passed them all. Still need to do b 5 (207) and b 6 (Megane) as well as iC 3 (Double hairpin Nissan) but hopefully get there eventually. Its strange though. Seem to have to brake hard, then almost free wheel around the corner a bit before I can apply the power to get to the finishing line. If I don't do the freewheeling bit just power straight of the track. May try and use the analog controller to control the throttle and see if that helps at all. Anyway now at 51 gold/9 silver/0 bronze. Sllloooooowwwwwly getting there....

IC3 is tricky. There's a lot of time in the left hander before the hairpins, so TCS off is useful there to sort of four-wheel drift across the apex. Getting a good line (i.e. almost straight) out of the last hairpin means you can give it full beans and not actually slip the rears at all, so it should be fine with TCS off.

I've tried many of the tests with ABS off, but gold times often rely on good trail braking, which is very difficult without ABS. So, generally, I have ABS on 1 and TCS (and all else) off.
