I am a relatively new GT player and I immediately started using the cockpit view and bumbercam view when racing because that is "what you do" when you race according to the aficionados. :) I quickly noticed that the side view is more than restricted however and sometimes you simply don't have the time to press the buttons required to look to the side in a race. I have therefore started using the newbie camera view from above and behind for all my online racing. It may be a bit slower but it sure makes for closer racing. I suggest that more people use this mode when racing online.

hehe sorry but with that view I just CAN't race,
and it doesn't feel right neither, so I keep up to the cockpit en bumper cam!
I have no difficulty in avoiding crashes with others,so..

I hate that veiw aswell, just doesn't feel right. My surround system tends to help and let me know where cars are in relation to myself.

Wait for GT5 to be released, buy 2 additional PS3's, 2 additional monitors, 3 copies of GT5 and create a peripheral view (180° view).
That way you can use the bumper/dashboard view and still see the cars beside you. This in combination with a surround sound system and you'll become unbeatable and the king of online racing. :p

I can't drive with that view either. I have to use Bumper cam. I have good close side to side racing in bumper cam.

I was actually thinking about that. Since the views are are there at the press of a buttom it should be possible to have two additional monitors on each side for the side view.

This view felt really awkward at first, didn't hit one apex, but eventually I got used to it.

If I could only break 9.30 in the FWD 550 Fuji race all would be perfect, my best is 9.30.7XX.

When I started playing, back in the days of GT1 and 2 I used to use this view aswell for the reasons you mentioned aswell as I used to like to know how the reae end of the car was reacting.
Now however after a few years of actual driving experience aswell as been gaming since back then I cant drive that view for the life of me!

Driving inthe cockpit or bumper view after a while you just know where the other cars are, using your periphal view on the mirrors (and surround sound if you have it) aswell as being generally aware of where cars are on the track compared to you.
These are things some people have trouble with in real life too, going by the amount of idiots on the road!

I would use the rear view if it was any good in GT games. Avoiding crashes would be easier but more than that the limited view of the in car/bumper view and the fact you don't have real 3D view, can't turn your head or feel G-forces means you are missing some of the information you have in a real car. Rear view compensates this by giving you an outside reference point IMO, which at least I would need especially when drifting. But I just hate the way rear view is done in GT: the camera is more or less fixed to the boot of the car, meaning if you slide the car any the camera suddenly swings from one side of the road to other. I simply get nausea from this.

The rally games in the past used to do things much better, the camera was fixed to a road position behind the car, the car could slide and bounce all it wanted but the view stayded more or less steady. For examaple in CMR2 you could freely adjust how far and how high the camera would follow the car as well as the swing (meaning how close it would follow the direction the car is pointing). I would hope this would be standard in all driving games.

Of course in race track driving of GT games you are supposed to keep the car straight and not slide all over so I can do with the bumper view. I have not yet tried the drifting mode for real, don't know what I'll do with that. Maybe I'll try the in car view for that one.

It is possible but not with GT5p.

This is how it looks in GT4.

That's a great set-up Kikie 👍 - it gives a much greater sense of speed in my eyes.

Thanks but I don't have it anymore! I sold everything last year. I don't even own a GT5p copy anymore. :guilty:

I'm using in car view, with gt4 it was the roof cam view(where you could see the hood of the car) and before that GT3, GT2, GT1 it was the above the car where you could see the whole car.

I can't drive that view either. I use bumper cam exclusively but I used roof cam alot when I first started. The higher pov helped me see what was ahead. Now I have all the tracks memorized I don't need that.

Of course when I try to learn the ring I may go back to roof cam.

I find that my issue with this so called "Newbie" view is that I can't see the rumble strips well enough to get a decent line through corners.

The chase cameras are always too far behind the action for my liking, and they always make the car seem like its driving much slower, I prefer the sense of speed.
I also don't like not knowing what is directly in my path, with the chase camera, you are a split second behind the action when going around a corner compared to the bumper, cockpit and roof cameras which allow you to see around corners more easily.

The problem of knowing where your opponents are is not so hard to cure, just get used to keeping track of where they are, check your rear view mirror, etc. Even the look left/right function is handy when it comes to straights. It also helps to remember to have the sound up enough that you can hear your rival's engines.

I never use the camera view. Bumper view or dashboard view are the only views that I use. Why do you all call the camera view a newbie view? Isn't this just a view like the other views?

I refer to them as: bumper, roof, cockpit and chase views. Seeing as they are all "camera" views.

Wow i have been a newbie since the days of GT1,nice
kikie you need to change your avatar i keep hitting my screen:)

I don't think the chase cam is a newbie camera, but rather I simply find it uncomfortable to use. Usually, if a game has a cockpit view, I use that, and if there's a roof (like GT4) cam, that's my second choice. The chase cam is my third choice mainly because I find it too solid. There are some games that give a bit of freedom in turning (Forza had it) before the camera would follow the car, and it kind of let you see what angle you were heading into the turn at. With GT5P's chase camera, I find myself concentrating more on the corner than what the car is doing when it's entering the corner (which is more important to me).

I suggest they don't :)

If everybody used the cockpit view, everybody would race more careful (because you see less well around you) and races would be cleaner.

Sorry but you are giving way too much credit to many of the people who are racing online.

Then again, it doesen't really matter if I preach here at GTPlanet. The problems lies elsewhere.

I think the behind car view is the best, it gives you the most visibility and you get to see the car. Cockpit view is nice, but it has blindspots. Bumber cam feels like you're floating around the track on a carpet.

I use the cockpit view almost exclusively. I only switch to the bumper cam for the f2007 though. Chase view = FAIL in my opinion ;)

Hehe

@Kikie, Do you ever get distracted by those drawings above your setup or are they an encouragement!
Huh?, no-oo! :guilty:

I have to be sooo concentrated not to get off track that I don't notice anything besides my GT4 car and the track I'm driving on.
