Used car mileage in GT4

Just occurred to me that if they are bringing used cars back into GT4, will we be buying them with a certain amount of mileage on the odometer/mileometor?

This is assuming that GT4 will retain the mileometer featured in GT3 - I sure hope so, as I find it quite interesting being able to see the total mileage I have travelled in any particular car, 'cause it gives the feel of "age":D

I don't think they will. They didn't have it in GT2
and Polyphony is kinda afraid of changes.
But I would love it.

I think that's how it will be. In real life, when you buy a used car it has miles/kilometers on it. That's what makes them "used".

In real life you don't buy an Escudo with 981hp
and tune iteven more up to 1881hp.

But that's just a tought ;)

You would if you have the $$$

:)

Are they?

Well, in fact you would almost be able too count every new
inovation since GT2 on you're fingers.

GT1: No rally races, GT2: Rally races.
GT1: No changeable rims, GT2: Changeable rims.
GT1: 166 cars, GT2: 571? cars.
GT1: No manufacturer races, GT2: Manufacturer races.

There's more than 10, I can't really think right now.

No, not afraid. But admit that they haven't made
some larger modifications since GT1/2.

The only 2 things they changed was the menu in GT3 and GT3 had not used cars.

What about SS Route 5, the wet version? I think that was pretty stunning when it first came out. Anyway, GT3 was more of a test of the PS2 than a full-on game. PD probably wanted to see what they could do before they expanded on the features. GT4 will have just about everything they have wanted to do, but previously couldn't.

I hope you will be able to buy used cars with aftermarket parts installed in GT4. It would save us all time and money, and might add the excitement of finding that 'hidden gem'.

That sounds interesting, it would make for some nice surprises.

Kaido Battle 2 is like that, some of the cars come with aftermarket rims and some tuner parts. I think they come with mileage as well. Also the reason it wasn't done in GT2 was because there was no mileage option on any car.

Exactly!!!!

And I can't see them doing away with the milometer introduced in GT3. As you rightly point out, the only reason the used miles were not shown in GT2 is because NIETHER NEW OR OLD CARS had milometers in GT1/2.

I would imagine that they would introduce this because a lot of people loved being able to see how many miles they have driven in any given car and I really can't see them doing away with it now.:D

Does GT4 Prologue show the miles travelled in each car?

No, it doesn't.
I'm assuming they will update the tach's to display this in the full game. I know there is an oil light symbol, but to my knowledge it doesn't light up on GT4:P. Mileage will probably play a part in parts needing replacing as well, so if you buy a cheap car i'm assuming you'll have to splash out on new parts.

If Polyphony does put those two together, then it really would be "The Real Driving Simulator". :)

I've heard people talking about having to replace parts, I can't remember if it's from an actual article or just speculation. Although I think it would be a worthy addition to the simulation aspect of the game.

it was mentioned that you maybe able to trade cars online amongst your selves already pre tuned and set up.
It was even muted this may be for real cash!

dont no, dont have a sharkport.

How much are people paying for them?

I don't know if they do that or not. I was wondering, because you can trade data with them. I figured someone would try to make money off of it.

Here's the real question, if they do put mileage on used cars, how much mileage will it be? Because in GT3, 2,000 miles is a pretty well used car. But when buying used cars in real life, you're lucky to get under 50,000.

That's a really good question. If car parts go bad, you might buy a car with a lot of miles that's on its way out.

I hope the same used car feature of GT2 returns, but with new twists. The older parts on the used cars failing sooner would be a nice twist, if parts failure was in the final game. I don't see why not since Kaz has said it would be in since the last E3 show.

I liked the "hidden gem" used car feature in GT2. I hope that returns as well, but with The359's list, and the GT4 car gallery, click on the link in my signature, I'm sure we can guess what "used" cars will be hidden gems, if there are any in GT4.

The hidden gem is a good idea. I don't really like the idea of parts failing, but if I can go out and buy a completely new part then break it in, so I can say, get my BHP back on my damn Formula 1 car :@ then I'll be fine with it.

Where did this mileometer term come from o_O

Oh and personally I'd rather PD evolve something brilliant than try to innovate and create something bad.

To be honest, when I raced that Tokyo endurance in Gran Turismo 3 and I saw my Oil light come on, I thought my car was going to break down on me. So I kept racing, hoping I didn't have to have engine failure. But when you race long events when you don't change your oil, it's no big thing in terms of staying in the race. It will just mean your horsepower will get robbed of for the next few races. I don't know what GT4 will probably do in terms of what happens when oil is running low, but I hope it isn't what I thought it would be in my earlier times playing Gran Turismo 3.

I think you should be able to service your car between races in championships in the pits before the race or qualifying.Odometer must be brought back.Prolouge is only a demo so there was no need for it. Oh yeah, one of my cars in GT3 (R32GTS-t) feels well used, 18,540kms and still going strong. :odd:

I don't think the list of GT4 surprises is finished just yet.
