Hi,

I was originally waiting for the release of the Clubsport Shifter and buy everything from Fanatec altogether at the same time (GT3RS V2, Clubsport Pedal V2, Clubsport Shifter, and Rennsport Wheel Stand). The last piece of good news about the shifter was very nice picture saying that it was finalizing the design phase (?). There hasn't been any news ever since, and, as I'm excited as most of you are about it, I finally gave up. :(

I looked online for a used set of wheel and found a Logitech G25 for less than $150 close to my home. I'll be trying it out tomorrow night. Other than the visible physical parts like rim condition and clamps (looked fine from the pictures sent by the seller), what are the things I should watch out for (re-centering perhaps)?

Watch for "spikey" pedal inputs. You will see spikes of input even if you are not giving them. This is a condition of the pedal pots. Of course you can replace them.

Put the shifter in gear (H-pattern) and feel for "slop" in the lever. Do this in all gears.

Look for high wear on the wheel itself and, as you said, good centering. Or more important, an "even" feel around neutral. Take out a heavy car and weave slowly back and forth, like a race car warming it's tires, and ensure the FFB is even and consistant in both directions and through neutral.

Bonne chance :)

Thanks for replying.

By "spikey" do you mean like random electrical glitches causing the pedals to send inputs signals through the cables (like for causing unintentional acceleration and braking in the game)?

For the "slop", you mean like the gear to engage into proper position? For the shifter, once everything is good, I'll probably mod it with Chilicoke's suggestion to make it a bit stiffer.

Thanks for reminding me of the FFB.

Just watch for centering problems, after 4 years mine suddenly started going off to the right about 20% after a couple turns. Tried everything, firmware, PC calibration but turns out the optical sensor is prone to failing when doing research. Something only few had the luck to permanently fix. Careful about that, should pedal spiking occur, I believe it's relatively easy fixing by cleaning... not sure though. Used items are always a risk, might be better to save the $150 and grab a used or brand new G27, which has of course a revised internal design which is slightly quieter, however the sequential mode was cut from the shifter design in favour of a better H-gate feel.

I was thinking about a G27, but the lowest (used) I've found was $200. I could get a brand new for $250. I don't mind about losing the sequential as I only use the H-pattern in Manual. Thanks for your input. :)

I just recently bought a brand new G27 through Newegg and after tax and shipping was only $200. That would without a doubt be better than buying any used electronics. Good luck and hope this helps.

I was looking for possible discounts for the G27 myself. I guess I missed the one you had. There's one refurbished for less than $170 online, but since I can't inspect it before purchasing, I'd rather not take this risk. At least I can inspect and try out the used G25 tomorrow.

You can pick up new G27 for like $210 shipped on amazon right now if you want to go that route.

i'm looking to sell my G25 with a wheelstand pro in the UK. How much should i be asking for as i dont really know how much its worth anymore. I'm having to sell due to having a 1 year old and not really having the time to play anymore :-(

I wish that applied to me. I tried ordering from US Amazon, but they forced me to go with the Canadian site. The cheapest one available was $250.

Well there would be a way around this but seems like it wouldn't save any really is have a friend in US buy it and send it to you when it comes in.

Hehe, I've thought of that too. I was thinking about using the work's department's address in the US, and then have it ship here by truck. Since too many employees are doing it in recent years, we have to pay a fee to the company and it came out to be even more expensive. As for my friends, they are way too lazy. I have to drive down to get it, but I have no time in the upcoming months.

On eBay a G25 goes for £100-120. You won't get much more with the stand, possibly £110-140.
See item #281016796270 for an idea of what can go for recently.

I'd estimate £35 for the stand on its own.

Minus fees obviously.

Alright, so everything went well. Getting to the seller's place was a bit of a hassle because of all of the bridge constructions/repairs/redirections and the GPS was a bit useless from there on. However, I still managed to get there on time, which was 5pm. The seller thought he'd call me at 5pm to determine when I'd be arriving and was shocked to hear I'm already at the corner of his street. Once in his apartment, the wheel was setup in front of me.

He clamped the wheel on his desk and launched "Test Drive Unlimited" and "NFS Underground" on his PC. He first played and tested the wheel in front of me. After powering up, the wheel centered and showed me that all buttons were working and the shifter is working both in sequential and in H-gated pattern. He played without FFB at first and he was a bit perplexed only to remember to re-enable it in the game. All looked more "natural" and after turning the wheel left and right multiple times, the wheel was still centered.

When it was my turn to try it, I tested the pedals. Clutch, brake, and throttle were fine, no sudden or brief unintended acceleration and deceleration, and very good resistance in all pedals. The shifter behaves properly. There isn't much resistance as everyone knows for a G25, and this has been modified for the G27. There's a mod for this, and I'll probably go for it. The wheel's FFB is strong. I had a little bit of trouble at first because I'm not used to drive with 2 hands. The FFB feels mechanical and artificial in comparison to Fanatec's Turbo S that was more organic. That's probably because Fanatec's rim is thicker, but at least I know the G25's rim is rock solid and will not fail. There weren't any noticeable tear and wear and the connections were solid.

Overall, I was pleased with the wheel. I've seen it a few times up close when it was first launched back in the days, and I don't remember it looked this great, maybe because I never owned it. Other than the lack of XBox compatibility (that I don't care since I have no XBox), I think the G25 (and possibly G27) excels in what the Fanatec's Turbo S (with the standard pedals and standard shifters) lacks and vice-versa. Fanatec's shifters were very stiff. I had to control my strength just enough so that I can shift without breaking it. The G25's is effortless, a bit too effortless. I do miss the organic feel of the Fanatec rim, but at the same time, I know I can rip the G25's rim and it'll not fail me. The G25 buttons are much better because they are individual buttons; Fanatec's are shared by the same "plating" and feel like they'll get stuck and/or fall off if abused. For the pedals, I do like G25's because of the resistance especially to the throttle. The Fanatec's throttle on its standard pedals were like bird flapping wings, and it's not like the pedals' shapes were any better. One thing I do liked about those standard pedals compared to the G25 was the clutch. You can feel the spring in the G25's clutch but you can sort of feel the engagement point in the Fanatec's standard pedals.

I'm about to place an order for a wheel stand. I'm going WheelStandPro because of better adjustability. Fanatec's Rennsport Wheel Stand is solid, sturdy, and cheaper, but limiting to 90' and 110' isn't comfortable. The price will turn out roughly the same in the end with about $30 difference.
