I think that in GTP9 it should show your member ranking and total amount of posts in your user control panel. That way, when you want to know how close you are to the next rank, you don't have to hunt down one of your posts to view your public profile.

:-)

I'm curious. Why do you want to know how close you are to the next rank?

Post quality > Post quantity.

I don't think it's a necessary addition to make because of this. It could incourage unecessary posting.

Exactly, if people are 8 posts away from the next rank, then they may just try 8 spam posts to reach the next one quickly.

Yes, I'd thought of that. But if you're a good enough member, you won't overdo it when seeing that you're close.

:-)

Or you could stop worrying what rank you're on and get on with your life.

We all like reaching the point where you get a personal avatar/title, but some people tend to get a little over excited on the way that point. What we definately don't want to be doing is encouraging them to post even faster.

People post whoring to get to certain ranks is the precise reason why it is no longer shown.

In the upper left hand corner of every GTP page is a link called My GTPlanet that will take you to your profile. No need to hunt down one of your posts to find it.

Don't you mean that it will send you to your control panel where you can modify your profile options? Because as far as I'm aware of, the only way you could see your profile the way it's shown to other members is by either:

A) Going to the bottom of the page, to the part where it shows who's on line, and click on the first member, which should be you of course. (And this is the fastest way)

and B) Tracking one of your posts...

At post 500, if you hae been here for 90 days already, you get to change your user title, but each rank changes by posts. They change for post 50, 80, 100, 150, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, and I forgot about 1000, I don't think it changes. (I am 90% sure about these post ranks.)

But if you're a good enough member, you won't overdo it when seeing that you're close.
If you're a good enough member, you'll quit worrying about your 'rank' and keep worrying about how useful and constructive your posts are.

Can i suggest something?
Could we have more customization of out profiles? The normal one justs looks dull and another thing is that maybe we could have more shortcuts please? Its just hard to find some thread by searching through the search bar.....

More shortcuts like what?

People don't look at the FAQ links as it is. I fail to see how adding a bunch more of them will improve that situation.

yeah,i think so too that not a lot of people here actually used the FAQ links (including me :indiff: ) but maybe the search engine could be more refined instead of just showing a thread with just the words in it,and a shortcut like which was the last few post that you made appear in some sort of link (or something like that) instead of going to your profile and search from there....

But i'm not complaining. The current GTP8 is just fine 👍 don't mind if this site doesn't change until GT5 comes out.

You don't need to go to your profile to search for your own posts. If you click on "Advanced Search" on any page, you can select to search for posts by a specific user - just enter your own username.

This isn't myspace, we have to keep it looking clean, simplicity sometimes is better than customizability. Right now I am hoping for a "GTPlatinum" that turbo lag suggested, maybe then it would make sense for all those features if you buy GTPlatinum, if that will even be implemented... We have enough shortcuts too, what more do we need? :sly:

this, minimality ftw:

No offence Evan, but I don't like that at all. It's too minimalist, and probably not all that user friendly. Forums are a bit like car interiors. They should look different to eachother, but not so different that it takes an age to work out how to do a simple task like turning the lights on; or in this case quoting a post.

No offense taken, I wasn't expecting anyone to like it.

Then why post that if you wasn't expecting anyone to like it?

He may not read the FAQ's, but atleast he admitted it. I think it's sad he made a screenshot just to be minimalist, that wasn't very nice. 👎

As the community has grown in size, I have found features which encourage posting based on rewards or "ranks" to be more and more problematic. I don't really want anyone to think of how many posts they have, and have intentionally made such statistics "difficult" to find.

Don't forget about our advanced search features, which allow you to display the search results as posts instead of threads. This shows you, specifically, which posts include your search terms. Also, keep in mind that you can subscribe to threads without receiving email notifications of replies. This would automatically create a list of threads with your latest posts in them, accessable from 'My GTPlanet'.

B-o-r-e-d-o-m.

And what about my post "wasn't very nice"?

Post advice from racerx? Really?

I think it's sad he made a screenshot just to be minimalist, that wasn't very nice. 👎

What's sad about it? He's expressing his opinion of what he thinks GTP should look like, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Doesn't GTP already have these features? Now I'm confused.

I really don't think post count should be visible like that, it's accessible to anyone who cares and doesn't need advertising.

Plus, like was said before, it would probably encourage spam posts to reach quota, and has no real use, you don't NEED it.

Simple is better, as it is now, that I can think of, has all the elements I need to sail through the forums, post, reply, quote, view profiles, whatever.
Only thing that could be changed (subjective) is design, colors, buttons, but only to do a restyling or whatever, to freshen up GTP.

Well, I'll be. I've been here half a decade and never noticed that :dunce: That'll make life a darn site easier.

I wouldn't worry about spamming since GTP is pretty slow these days, altough I would find a ranking system to be unnecessary/useless.
