Using Clutch on G27...

I love realism and often go into Practice and turn the hud off and use cockpit view. Added to this I love to use the stick and clutch. Trouble is I find the clutch a bit "weird" to use. It just doesn't feel right. For one when I'm shifting with the clutch the gear shift noise (in game) doesn't sound the same compared to the paddles. Kind of like a whurring noise as I go through the gears. I also have a habit of getting stuck in neutral. Am I doing something wrong or does it just not work properly?
 
I had trouble of getting stuck in neutral when I first started using the clutch. If you shift slightly slower, and make sure the clutch is depressed all that way, and you're off the throttle, you'll be fine.

I don't know what "whirring" noise you're referring to though, I've never experienced it. Unless you're talking about a fully customizable tranny and it whining, which it should do if you're using the paddles too.
 
Yea, the "whirring" sounds as if it's one of the aftermarket transmissions. Close or full-custom gears. In real-life, racing transmissions are often made with straight-cut gears, which make a lot of noise as they mesh..like this: iiiiiii Ordinary passenger cars use helical gears, which mesh on a more side ways angle, like this: ///// They are used in everyday-type passenger cars obviously because they are quieter.

When you put your car in reverse (real-life car), you'll hear this "whirring" noise, because reverse gears are often straight-cut.

Can't help you with your other Q because I don't a wheel yet. :(
 
Is the clutch analogue like a real car or is it just an on off thing?

Can you do wheel spins by revving really and slipping the clutch?

The clutch is analogue like a real car, but the grabbing point is really small and hard to find.

don't you have to press the triangle first to enable the clutch? That seems to be what I have read.

I'm hoping to be getting a G27 next week so am a bit excited currently, but less so about the lousy sounding clutch :(
 
I have a G25 and I can either use the clutch or shifting the stick without it. didn't have to press any bottom to enable or disable it. You can also launch the car by pressing the clutch, rev the engine and release it.

The g27 clutch is engaged just by pressing in the clutch. I own a g27 and love it. The shifting takes practice. Make sure the clutch is pushed all the way in before shifting.

That's normal. You can shift without clutching using the H-box or with the paddles. As soon as you press the clutch it becomes activated and you need to use it with the H-box. Paddle shifting will deactivate it and you can use your H-box normally again.
 
As i noticed when i was mucking around with the shifting system, i found that there are 3 different ways to use manual.

1- Using the clutch an shifting like a real car.
2- Not using clutch an shifting normally through the box
3- Paddle shift

Also found that you can stall the car too hahaha
Try it - select high power car, Manual, trac control off, do a burnout shifting through gears. Eventually the car will stall an you will have no drive (clutch an rev to start again).

No its not, it may as well be an on and off switch why do you think there is so much dead zone in the clutch pedal you can press it quite far down with out the clutch engaging.

I use the clutch in GT5 simply as I do not want to get in the habbit of not using it as I switch from GT5 to other games like GTR EVO were the clutch is progressive.
Using the clutch really loosed all its advantages if its not progressive.

yess it is, but you have to be really light with the clutch to make it slip, just take a small hp car and try it, like the Subaru 360 bone stock and you will see that it is analog

Tried it and its still not progressive at all.
 
You're doing it wrong then, it's a rather small gap but you can find it rather easily by depress clutch, floor the gas, then release clutch very slowly until car starts accelerating. if you hold it there you'll see the car picking up speed but the revs stay at max.
 
MY findings have been that:

a) The support for the G27 by PD is far from optimal and it's software, not hardware isssue.
b) The clutch DOES need full engagement to produce consistent gear changes.
c) It's totally analogue as I can control wheelspin entirely, and gradually, using it in racing or drifting.
d) Trying to engage gears when the revs are too high/ too low results in going in to neutral much of the time.


The first point is what makes it's all tricky.. hoping that they patch proper support for the wheel.
