Hey,

I have been working on a prototype for a device im working on that takes the gt5 or gt4 or any car game really and coverts it for use with real speedos rev limiters ect

http://youtu.be/d5sScSsChrg

In the above video i try out the concept with brake lights in gt4 as i do not have a ps3.

Please let me know if you would be interested in purchasing a device you plug into your ps3 that would do this.

Concept Copyrighted

Thanks Matt

Really? All I see is a dim video of a bar moving left and right on a PC.

You need to explain your 'pitch' a bit clearer than you have if you want to gauge interest.

Well the software works by getting a video stream of the screen by webcam or capture card. In the program you set a group of pixels as the needle goes around. The program then detects these and converts it into a digital number (km/h) which then can be sent to a speedo

On PC there's already hardware to do this using rev counters, shift lights etc with data sent directly from the sim (which would be inherently more accurate). I don't see where there's any market for what you're proposing on PS3 or XBox (and there certainly will be no market for such a convoluted method on PC)

So I'd need a webcam, PC, speedo or rev-counter (and a device to actually power and drive the gauges, I assume)?

See I actually wanted something like this for a while, but it would look awkward I think. A tangible digital display like that for F1 or other races series would be nice.

Well i was hoping to package them into a small cheap device, with no configuration needed. PS3 would be a good market because gt5 is a amazing game and there is nothing like it.

Building a LED system would be a better way to go than a normal speedometer more people would buy into it.

Okay, show me a prototype of this 'device' and I may not be so skeptical. What you have described so far is messy at best and inaccurate.

As for GT5 being "amazing", well that's debatable! Your core market probably don't play much GT5 ;)

Also people have done this before ^ like the video shows

Exactly, those who would be remotely interested are playing PC sims. IRacing, pCARS, waiting for rfactor2 and simraceway to be fully released.

That video isn't gt5 and it wouldn't be limited to just Speedos

Doesn't matter if it's GT5 or some other game, the fact is others can do it. This sort of task isn't impossible. GT5 is just harder.

I've been thinking about making a thing like this but it's just too cumbersome to do it with a camera because there are too many 'what if' variables, and you'd need to have a PC on all the time. Also it would have to be very cheap to interest GT5 players, and people like Leo Bodnar have the PC sim market covered several times over so, again, it would either have to be very cheap (£45 will get you a SLI-M rev counter, gear display and 16 inputs with rotary encoders) or absolutely revolutionary which is hard to picture, really.

Oh and to copyright the concept is staggeringly arrogant as this has been done several times before, and I'm not sure GTP staff would be happy with you advertising like that.
