Using pre-order promotional cars...

I'm based in the UK and have a friend in the USA that pre-ordered 2 copies of GT5. As he only needed one code to get the free promotional cars (NASCAR and NSX) he very kindly sent me the other code. I have used the code in the playstation store, and both cars have been downloaded and installed to my PS3 system.
However, niether of the cars appear in my garage when I start the game so I am unable to use them. Does anyone know why this is and how I solve this issue so that I'm able to drive them?
 
You'll need a NA version of the game for NA DLC to work.
 
The PS3 and Bluray are region free but anything DLC related (PS Store download) is region locked. You will need to buy a US copy just to drive the car, not really worth it.
