Using Reverse (gear) to drift

Has anyone tried this? i'm running an F1 right now..... warmed up tires (green) after braking, turn and tap the reverse button @ the same time
it should lose the end VERY quickly, creating the effect that you used the handbrake, but you diddn't! :P
i think it can be an alternative for us amateur drifters. ^_^

i think that it would completely destroy your gear box if your tires made grip. besides, in gt3, whten you hit revers doesnt it throw the car into the gear best suited for the rpm?

Yeah in real life duh
who said this is real life drifting.. :P
and yeah, your right, but since the reverse SUDDENLY makes the tires rotate in another direction, its like loosing traction and having the rear wheels lock up
the rear wheels don't actually lock up, but theyre actually trying to work AGAINST the forward force of the car, so i guess it actually helps you brake as well...

Well in real life it's impossible to actually throw it into reverse while the car is moving, maybe at a very low speed. You'll just get an awful grinding sound.

heh... actually.. on the older cars slider...
they don't have the "lock up" feature on them.... once you shift.... you'll hear a sound such as...
GRRRR PRLERJKHE GRRRRR
and etc :P
but i'm still trying to practice it..... its really tuff to master...><

Why are you "drifting" in an F1? Someone has wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much spare time.... :banghead:

it would be hard to imagine a car with enough torque to over power the grip of the tires into reversing direction. but its a game, oh well.

thats the whole point S13..... the reverse (you don't HOLD it) when going in a corner make sure your going in a straight line when you brake
when braking, use the reverse @ the same time, you can brake later, and still stop
when starting to turn, tap the reverse button for like.. 1/10th of a second
the rear end will swing out like crazy, but if mastered, will turn into a very nice drift.. :P

I knew that issue would come up and I just didn't feel like editing my post. I DON'T hold the reverse button when attempting it. I use the normal brakes and I have them set to engage almost instantly when pressed therefore I can turn and NORMAL brake causing RW spin and therefore start the beginning of a nice little drift. I was just mentioning that in my opinion there are easier way's than using the reverse button. :)

One last clarification from my last post:

At the point where I was talking about having the brakes lock up almost instantly I was moreless saying that when I mash the brakes going into a corner the rear end of my car is more than likely going to come on around and put me into a drift.

I have tried that before and I can do it pretty well now that I have done it for awhile....I think is pretty cool watching a F090/s fishtailing around tight turns at SR11

yeah.... but that reverse trick should be strictly for F1 cars ONLY
any of the other cars you can't hold the tail (too little grip) and the car spins

edit: S13, duh, of course there are easier ways to drift, but, this is an F1 car we're talking about here....
unless you actually set it up for drifting, its pretty hard to drift it
thats why i use the reverse button... ;)

........
no........ of course they can't.. your still in a forward motion.... you expect your car to stop in 1 meter when your going 100 mph?? lol
