Well just went to have a game of GT6. Got the update downloaded and started to install. At 99% I'm kindly told that the install has been corrupted, to go downloads and try again.

Problem. The 1125MB file isn't available from my downloads list. Even bigger problem, the update file isn't what's corrupted. GT6 is corrupted, all 15GB of it! The 15GB digital download that took a ridiculus amount of time to install! There are only two 3 games installed Dust 514, GT5 and GT6.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDING ME!!!

How did you corrupt a BluRay disc!!! Oh wait, you've got the PSN version? Delete the game install (NOT YOUR GAME SAVE!!!) and download it again from your Transaction Managment>Downloads List.

Apparently you've never had do delete a purchased game and then download it again at a later date. Not a big deal. Lay off the caffeine.

Yeah it's the PSN Special Edition. Backed up my game saves and pics to pen drive. I've never had a corrupt file since getting the PS3. I'm in the process of a complete format/system restore, just in case the file systems getting stuffed. Only way to be sure!

I'm going to dump my GT5 files (backed up my game save though) so I'll only need to download/install Dust and GT6. It's the download time, it's the amount of time it takes to install the damn thing! That and, you know when you've got something just the way you like it, controllers, BD remote, printer, settings..... All perfect with no issues at all, you switch on and everything works ALL the time? My PS3 is like that, never even had to think if my BD remote would need re-registering etc.

I'm PI***D!

Deleting the game install is not a big deal at all. You didn't have to go through all of that just to delete one game. Lets say you needed space so you deleted a massive game like MGS. Then you decided to install it again later. It's the same process, except one is coming from a disc and the other simply needs to be downloaded again. You can redoenload to the same [activated] PS3 as many times as you like.

Aye I know. Just decided to reset the whole thing, clear any old crap off the HDD and if there was any probs with it I'd have been notified when it reformated (mind you if a SSD has issues, it won't work period!!!)

Still, downloading GT6 as we speak. I've good broadband so downloads are a sinch 27 mins when it came out. That was during the day, should be faster now at night (UK). It just takes so long to install I can actually feel myself getting older!

I'm not going crazy with it copying back all my pics and things as I'm going to be replacing my SSD soon!

Not good. Tried 4 times at redownloading. Always errors at 14%! Never had an issue like this before, Dust downloads/installs fine, GT6 not a chance. Going to leave it and get some sleep, 07:05 here in UK now! XMB is quick though now all cache's are purged. I'll keep the thread updated when I try again.

I'm an experienced IT systems engineer, so I've checked most things but if anyone has any ideas your all welcome to post them. It's now a freshly reset PS3 fatty, on a wired 60MB DMZ'd NAT 2 connection (no UPnP). Tried NAT 1 (router running in modem only mode), will be looking at changing Virgin Media's DNS servers to Google's later on today.

Would be interesting to know if anyone else with the same problem. Is it possible that the digital copy on PSN is corrupt?

Oke so I left the PS3 overnight to download the update, I woke up to see the PS3 telling me to sign in, then got the notification a new update has been found, I click prepare to download but the problem is it gives me the error failed to prepare download and a connetion to the server can not be found :odd: , thing is when I click ok and the game starts it's says I'm on 1.02 and I have the X challenge and everything however I can't access the seasonals, any help?

edit: it seems it has now worked, and it is downloading another update which could be the Hudson one.

At last, a working install!

This is what I did:

Changed primary/secondary DNS to 8.8.8.8./8.8.4.4 respectively.
Dowloaded, activated and isntalled the small 100Kb AE files first, then the main 15GB file.

Then came the update files. At one point I thought it had failed as it hung at the initial GT6 loading screen (I had this a lot on GT5 too, as did many others!), but then the console crashed and went through the file system check.

Honestly, Sony needs to get better at this digital download stuff. It doesn't inspire confidence to by more DD titles but I like games on my HDD to save my laser and I'm not keen on having game boxes scattered everywhere!

Good to hear you managed to get it up and running:tup:
Beware of the little PD updates, they seem to crash my PS3 everytime ....

Thanks. Trouble is you gotta update to continue online. I don't know if what I did above got it going or if it would have worked with making changes. It's seemed to hang alot at startup since release. GT5 was a pain for that too, the black screen of death!

My install files don't get corrupt, but just after the update has finished my ps3 crasches... It's weird, has to reboot do a file system check and then it starts like normal...

PD has not managed to make this update scheme correctly, I had massive problems installing v1.01, and of couse I'm having these freezes and system restore issues every bleeding time PD releases a mini update.

I had an issue while installing 1.02 as well, starting the update crashed the PS3 and then the filesystem needed to be checked. Then I remembered this issue that some updates had in the past where you can see the harddrive still working when the prompt to press x to start the update is already on screen. So now I waited for the HDD light to stop flickering, and sure enough the update process started properly this time.

So it's pretty sad that this old bug is back, but I've seen it a few times before, and yes, it sucks. When you know why it happens though, that hugely helps.

And I can understand the OP's frustration. If you've done the 1 hour download and 4,5 hour install just to get back to 1.0, that sucks.

One thing you can try before reinstalling all of GT6 is delete the patches only from the GameData folder (much like is explained in the GT Vision Mercedes car money trick). That would very likely have solved the problem for the OP, without having to do the whole reinstall all over again.

I've had this problem - crashing when GT6 started first time after the update was installed, requiring the filesystem to be rechecked on restart of the PS3. After the update downloaded the PS3 just sat there with a black screen and no HD activity, so had to reset by holdiing the on/off button down. Happened on both 1.01 and 1.02.

Didn't lose any game data, and didn't have to reinstall the game, but was quite annoying. Seems like a bug. Wonder how many other people experienced this?

If youre a killzone fan...
you would know killzone 3 has a bug (that still exists) where you simply cant patch the game to the latest patch (to play the game online). What happens is, it installs but when you click on the icon to play the game, the screen goes black and hangs there. The HDD light flashes every now and then but doesnt start the game. The only way to exit is to press the power button. You hear 3 beeps and switches off.
When you restart it, a message appears saying the HDD is corrupted and the data must be "rebuilt" and it may take a while.
Well, I had a very similar thing happen to me after patching the game today..
On the Killzone forum... we did experiments trying to determine who had these problems and why some have them and others dont.
Our conclusion? Only those who swopped their PS3 HDDs with bigger ones (over +500GB) were experiencing the problem.
I hope it doesnt happen with GT6...
but in the end, after I ran the HDD rebuild, my GT6 worked.I suggest rebuilding your HDD if youre having issues.

I've had pretty good luck so far, once the game froze up while loading and when I restarted it wanted to load the backup save file which was no big deal as it was current. I had it freeze once in game and had to reset the system but that is about it. Twice I thought it had locked up but it had not. In one case was after the 1.02 update it sat there for a while appearing to do nothing but the HD light was still blinking and after a while it came up. In another case it must have had an error in the PSN connection, appeared to be frozen for a while then eventually started to respond again and popped up the message tellign me an error had occurred and I had been signed out of PSN, every thing was fine after that

Mine crashed on the latest "little" update but I rebooted and everything was fine, so...

The update had actually installed. Once it had finished and the game was supposed to start, it crapped out. The icon for the game on the xmb turned into a grey box with a flash across it, at the side it just said corrupt file. I wasn't able to roll the update back, only thing I could do was delete the whole game.

Is it me or has this patch took a piss on my steering sensitivity? The cars don't handle the same as they did pre patch.

I am experiencing the same problem with my GT6 1.02 update. 1255 MB update sucks. It downloads fine but throws me an 80029564 error at 14% more like @Oberheim case. further, my game is the disc version and not the digital version from PSN. Crazy this is!!! Can anyone please help me out here.... I really could use some expert opinion coz I have tried everything from DNS to rebuilding the console database. Guys please help!!!

There are a few having that problem with 1.03, there are threads about it here and there is info on the main GT site as to what to do if you are having this issue.

This may be a relatively newbie Q, but with a knowledgable answer, I am willing to learn....I have a external WD My Book drive on my PS3 slim which I 'thought' could be used to 'restore' my game data should 'anything happen'..well as with many, the latest GT6 update (1.07 or 08, or 09) repeatedly failed to complete the install,(starts around a hundred minutes or so and eventually says installation of update failed and then I'm in some loop from Hell..) (and I can't play GT6 as a result) I deleted my game data (right or wrong) with the 'plan' that I could reload game, install all the updates (arrgh) and then add my game data..but I think I am learning late and correctly that you can't restore GT6 from an external USB HD, just music and videos...etc....I only had the external drive as a GT6 back up, but am I right that it can't really do that at all? So now I'm planning to reload GT6 (aka start over..)load the many updates, and hopefully adapt to just enjoying arcade playing as this seemingly period issue with corrupted updates is just time I won't get back. ?? Comments, help thanks.

PS3 games store two different kinds of data on the internal hard drive. Game data (part of the game is copied for quicker access) and save data (your progress in a game). Most games allow you to copy the save data to an external drive. If you copied your save data to the external drive, then all you have to do is copy it back to the internal drive. However, if what you did was create a system backup, then you'll need to restore said backup to get your save data back. Then you'll be able to copy you save data to as many USB drives as you want (I keep several backups just to be save).

Keep in mind that when you restore a system backup you'll lose any data saved on the internal drive after the backup was created. Also game data/save data/digital games will only be restored to the PS3 that created the backup. Hope this helps.
