Welcome to the...

2007 (POSTPONED) V8 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Whether you're a fan of classic, European engineering, American muscle, British heritage or the ever popular Aussie V8 Supercars, you'll find your niche here in the first ever championship to embrace as many V8s in Gran Turismo 4 as possible!

This'll be fast, furious and fun!!

I had an idea a while ago to do a tournament like this, but with real life kicking in, I've had to wait until now to announce this truly unique competition, so step right up and be a part of the show!!

The Calendar (as of the 22nd March 2007)

Round 1: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Laps: 5
Dates: TBA
Round 2: Special Stage Route 5
Laps: 4
Dates: TBA
Round 3: Twin Rings Motegi Full Circuit
Laps: 3
Dates: TBA
Round 4: ***ALL-STAR CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND*** TBA
Laps: TBA
Dates: TBA

That's right! This time there are no huge commitments required! It's all about the competition and keeping it fun. Three rounds, then the special All-Star race willl be the climax. It will include a special spike in the points system to really keep the competition hot, right down to the very last lap!

Why should you choose the V8 World Championship?

A commited and experienced Stuard...
You should choose the V8 World Championship because you know the host isn't going to to bail, lose interest, cheat or perform any kind of action not in the interests of his tournament.

It's short, sharp and spectacular! It's evolving all the time...
You should choose the V8 World Championship because it IS short. Too many tournaments, well, just about ALL tournaments die off because people cannot commit to long term championships. Well, what if there was a tournament which was short, fun, and had the complexities of a full-length season? I have managed to replicate that with my spiked All-Star round and my concepts are growing as the interest for my tournament, as well as the tournament itself, develops. Such as the plans to use qualifying, a form of super-pole and ballasts to even out the field. You should see what I've got in store for you on the All-Star round!

It's just a bit of competitive fun!
Finally, you should choose the V8 World Championship because, overall, it's just a bit of competitive fun, with a diversity unique to my tournaments which requires minimal commitment and if we're honest, that's what we all want!!

Thanks for checking out my new tournament and good luck to all participants!!
I look forward to hearing from you!
Dan-is-fast

PS Sadly due to a lack of foresight and a tad of ignorance on my part, the tournament had been postponed while we fix up a 'core' of V8 cars and fix-tune them for the sake of its future. If you're interested, just drop your name, and when the time comes, we'll get back to you.

Check back soon for the latest details!

Well, so this was your big idea for a V8 championship. I have read it and I have to say it looks fun:tup:.
I will look in to some cars and see if I can find one I like, but you can be sure I will race in this series:).
Nice to see you racing again:cheers:.

James

Cheers James! Welcome to the tourney mate! The document in the first post has a list of all the eligible cars...have a look and see what takes your fancy!

The list includes...

Holden and Ford V8 'supercars',
Mercedes Benz and BMW luxury racers, including the McLaren SLR and the M3 GTR,
A range of Lotus, Jaguar and TVR models,
A huge array of American Muscle Cars from every era,
Even Korea and the Netherlands have eligible cars!!
Imagine them all, maxed-out, with 800bhp monster hardware, competing in the same race, at the same pace! This is gonna rock!!

Can't wait for this to kick-off!!

I did some test driving today, and I think I found some cars I like:).
Will we be able to use more than one car like in the 2.3 championship?

Hmmm...thinking about it...at the moment, no...But as things stand, not much is happening, so we might need to boost the numbers a bit...

Ok. I think I have found the car I'm going to drive, no super horsepower car but I am a fan of light cars anyways;).

i would be intrested but i wouldnt like to see stuff like slr's and TVR's etc (boooo spoil sport!!!) lol
i just think they might be too ungodly fast!!
so maybe limiting it abit by not including couples, supercars etc and just saloons that are FR with a V8 but i would agree on the m3 gtr.
also again the freedom thing might be an issue, sure its all abit of fun but people might lose intrest if someone walks away in every race with a 750bhp commodore and others with say 550-600bhp monaros give up cause it isnt fair.
sorry i know it sounds like im spoiling your fun but ive done a few race series and i know how annoying it can be when someone comes along with a stupid fast car and walks it.also add weight to cars too to make them even on power to weight, will involve alot of maths if you wanna try and make it work :p

if you wanna give it say another week ill be more than happy to help you try and sort things to make it close and exciting :)

How does this championship work? We do these races ourselves offline and post the times? I haven't been part of "on-line racing" in GT4, so i don't know how it goes on. What I do know is that GT4 doesn't have online, so we compare lap times, or what?

There are two TVR's with V8's and the SLR has a V8 as well.

i dont have any way of proving my times. can i participate on the trust system if i promise to be honorable?

i do have a usb stick. is there a way im not aware of to take stills of lap times?

I'm very much interested in this comp .. and already have my car selected , tuned and ready for the green light .
Looks like we will be racing in Arcade Mode .. 👍

Hey guys! Thanks for checkin' out my tourney! I hope you enjoy it!!

Right, with regard to how this'll be run, if you don't have any way to prove your times, then don't worry, we'll work something out if and when the time comes.
Yes, this will be run offline. Sorry to dissapoint you guys, but if I could, I would run it online. Actually, speaking of which, as soon as GT does go online, you can be sure we'll be here whacking out tournies, that are actually 'online', for anyone's tastes.
Lastly, if everyone here is in agreement that some cars are just too fast, then don't worry!!! I've got a great system in line that I was going to use in my next tourney, but I'll bring it here if you want...basically, if we run it so that no discussions of time are allowed, we will use a combination of ballast and time penalties to hamper the faster drivers or cars in say, the second round after the first one. But we won't just use a fixed ballast or time, it will be relative to how much you win by. Also, you'll have to give it your all, so as not to cut down the ballast because there aren't enough rounds to keep finishing in awkward places, that and you won't know how fast everyone else is going!! ALSO, we can use this to as much or as harsh an effect as possible. Obviously we don't want the best drivers losing all the time, but we do want EVERYONE to give it their all and still not know if they've finished 1st or last!!!
Not bad eh??
If anyone has any comments about this new idea, or anything to do with the V8 World Championship, just bang it here...I'll try and get this going as soon as possible...it won't be long now...!!
All the best, and good luck to all our racers,
Danisfast

i would be intrested but i wouldnt like to see stuff like slr's and TVR's etc (boooo spoil sport!!!) lol
i just think they might be too ungodly fast!!

They might be fast in a straight line, but they corner like suet-puddings covered in whipped double cream!
The intent is there, they really don't want to! But in reality, they just can't be arsed to go round corners, cos it's too much trouble!

Chill out dudes!

The 'Stig' proves they are fast, but in the hands/feet of us mere humans...........?

C'est la Vite!

If the mod/admin decides to include them, you are either gonna have to suck-it-and-see, or, shut-up-and-close-your-eyes!

Neil

Ha! Suck it 'n' see, nice!!
Right guys, to settle this TVR, SLR debate. It is a V8 Championship, which means if it's a V8 it's legal. But we will hold a couple of even shorter pre-season races (in which I want people to run multiple cars, to test the range of lap timed from various makers, it's not decided whether or not it will go in the full season mode yet though) where we can see for ourselves if the range really is THAT bad and to also test out the ballast system.

haha funny guy(not) i didnt say that i had a problem runnng against them, but i did say if you want this to be popular then you might not wanna include these to make it fairer for newer or other members to come along and join in as they might just see it as unfair if someones using a 780bhp ford GT and others are using 500bhp monaros or 650bhp falcons or 700bhp E55's unless you want everyone to turn up in 780bhp ford GT's? but i guess that would miss the point as you want a verity of cars to be racing.if you want this to be competive then you have to work at it and really narrow the gap to cars that are on a very level playing field other wise like i said people will ether all turn up in the same car or just not bother.

handicap system sounds like a good idea,we use one in sailing which makes all the boats level and then a personal handicap for the sailer himself, any more details on it?

Not in terms of exact figures I'm afraid. It's still in development which is why I was gonna save it for later. But, the idea was to do some testing, and discover how much 1% ballast would affect say, a three second victory in the next round. Then we'd run it untill it was made even, even if it meant not using integers. Then we'd do the same, but for six second difference drivers with a 5% ballast and see how that would pan out. The difficult thing could've been that the new track would affect the ballast because the slower driver might be a bit quicker next time around(but that might make it even better!). So we'd run the same track throughout so as not to over complicate things. What WILL complicate it is the overall times of ALL the racers. We could have say, seven div 1 drivers and one div 3, which would mean we couldn't even use averaging to factor in all the times, at least not in a fair and honest manner. One option is to allow the slowest drivers to gain power or lose weight, but that could have adverse effects if some guy is REALLY slow, say, either he can't get any more power out of his car, but there are ways around that. With a few test runs we might be able to work this out in time for the start of the season. Looks like I'll have to pick up another copy of GT4!!!
I'll work this out as soon as I can get another disc in as my old one is knackered. But I'll make it so that after the first round, the nice guy who finished last will have a great opportunity to even the scores in time for the final race!
Dan-is-fast
PS Just in case people weren't aware, you can still hit the limit of the rules without going anywhere near 800BHP, you can have a lower power to weight ratio than both the cars with more than 800BHP and the cars right on it (800BHP), and with some of the tracks being fairly twisty, and the new ballast system, you wouldn't do so badly...

Right chaps! I'd like to inform you that we now have AngelCreator on board who will be helping out. Also, by the end of this week, we will have a new race rules and eligibility document available to all which will include all revisions and specifications for ALL cars in the new tournament. It's not the be all and end all but you can be assured we will have tested the fairness of the cars as much as possible. After that we'll be looking to get underway as soon as possible!!
That's the latest news!!
Dan-is-fast

Right, update on the tournament...It looks like a reformation is in order. Thank you very much for your input guys. It has lead us to a new system. We were hoping to avoid this, but we might end up have to tune the cars for you. This way we can effect a fair, but much more excitingly close sprint championship...Testing is still underway and we will update you again soon,
Dan-is-fast

No one loves my tourney?? Aawww...that's too bad I guess...Well Looks like this one will have to be canned unless AngelCreator thinks he can salvage it...Sorry to have wasted all of your time testing there mate...
Dan-is-fast

I would be interested in this short series, when does it start? Can u pm me? Thanks in advance man!

jump_ace

Wow...you guys are interested huh?? Well...gimme your details about what car you wanna drive...IF we get enough people who want to participate, I'll get in touch with AngelCreator and plead with him to come back seeing as when I last looked...this was going NOWHERE!!!
All the best guys,
Danisfast

Oh, sorry I only just saw this after I posted my EOI so I hope it doesn't take anything away from you.. :(

:) :sly: :tup:I'M not sure if i use my Ford GT, my Benz SLR or the SL 55 ( future toy!! ):)
sure it's going to be one of them

p.s: Dan, when then this will start????????:indiff: i'm READY to start every moment

Right...give me a few days to get settled into my new place and get the broadband up and running again so I can launch a new sign-up thread...I've also been thinking about the structure of the tournament. Evidently people seem to prefer rigid, but admittedly fair structured tournaments in comparison to tournies based on variety and creativity. I thought, like with my 2.3 tourny, you guys would be interested in finding the best cars and discovering the best combinations on your own.
Now it seems this would do very well if we had a list of V8s with strict tune settings...They'd be probably made up of a muscle car class and a modern supercar class...They could even run together if I can find a way to make it even, the draw back being there would be quite a few cars that would be 'rubbed out' in a sense...but hold tight, I WILL be back shortly, and this will be fun.
