I've always wondered about GT5's slogan.

"The real DRIVING simulator"

So, why not include vans in the GT series? Honestly, I really want to haul a Ford Transit round the Nurburgring under 10 minutes! Not only this, but imagine upgrading these with turbochargers (imagine the torque!)

He mentioned Honda Odyssey because it is a van. And don't forget the Honda life Step Van :p

But those are minivans.. I'm talking about full-blown commercial vehicles (If you think about it, the Honda Life Step Van is a tiny little box, and the Honda Odyssey is basically an estate vehicle with more space in the back).

I don't think there are any real Vans in GT5, or any GT game. There have been a few Minivans/MPV's like the Espace F1 (which was an F1 car underneath) in GT2 and the aformentioned Honda Odyssey in GT4/5

You know, mankind has invented this awesome technology called "Videogame" to bring to the masses experiences far beyond their reach. There's a reason why car videogames feature all those freakishly fast, expensive, and strange cars: because people wan't to do what they can't do in real life. That's why people buy games, to do things they can't do in real life (Unless they win the lottery a couple of times), like painting a Ferrari in Gold Chrome, or fully tunning an NSX, racing NASCAR, owning a priceless prototype car, or winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

So, tell me why in the name of heavens you'd like to drive a miserable crap-box delivery van in a game? Here's my opinion: You wan't to drive a Ford Transit? Go get a job as a delivery boy and stay clear of my GT.

(Same goes for the crap econo cars, eco cars, K-cars, and well, anything can isn't fun/interesting in a fantastic way.)

I could work with the Ford Transit Supervan 3.

I could do with a "Supervan" championship featuring the Ford Transit Supervan and the Espace F1 :D.

Yeah, I'm sure your boss would just let you put a big turbo/supercharger on it, slicks, aero mods etc and then let you take it to the Nordschleife for a fast lap.

Think that was the point of the OP to want these kind of vans in the game. Can't really do those things in real life unless you own one of these vans yourself and have a lot of money.

Also about eco cars, they just HAVE to be in the game in my opinion. We'll be driving these cars in the future, it's only good that we can 'test drive' them in the game so we actually start liking these kind of cars instead of hating them just because they have no loud engine sound. Though they didn't do such a good job with the Tesla, acceleration is nowhere near as fast as in real life. Supposed to have a lot more torque at the start.

You can't make GT a niche game for only a select group of people who have "X" specific desire. That's why there are PC sim games that allow extensive modding, like adding buses and LM cars that aren't in game. Try those if you wan't to experiment such an specific desire. But GT is a console game, designed not to cater the taste of a few but the taste of millions of people, and the thing millions of people want is their dream cars.

Just because the motoring scene is aiming in the future towards a future that's not as exciting and romantic as the present one, we should suffer it in your fantasy video games? I don't know the rest of people, but personally I'll pass on that. Also, in the future we'll most likely depend on public transport for transport, so why not making a real bus riding simulator in that case?

Well considering the wide variety of cars in the game and the fact that many modern releases arent in it such as the aston dbs or tvr sagaris then I would say vans arent too far out of reach. What about a transit challenge on the nurburgring ?

You are forgetting the fact that there are crappy opel corsas and vw lupo 1.4's in this game. not exactly out of reach are they. You could pick them up for pocket change irl

I would like to see a Mercedes Vito! And good if they include the V6 version.

Is the classified as vans? Over here, it's class as a multipurpose vehicle.

MPV is really the fancy international way of saying "van".

Only difference is that foreign nations build very small vans unlike what is in the U.S.

Would be awesome if they put in the VW T5 Transporter:) I had one when my work T4 was getting its cambelt... It can out-corner most cars on the road! As long as its the twin turbo diesel one with the 7 speed 'box like I drove:D

Rent a Ford Transit and head for Germany.. It couldn't be that expensive..

I can see the appeal of vans being in the game, tbh i'd rather them than a million more skylines, but I don't think it would happen as Van racing doesn't seem to have a wide following. Truck racing however (with HGV's not pick ups) could possibly work as a special event, like the Go Karting. I'd personally like to see one or two motorbikes added, just to compare them to the cars in the game. Think of it like a TT2 demo :)

It already is, we have so many different sort of cars in the game. Few of them are even less exciting than vans, schwimmwagen for example (though trying not to roll it gets kind of fun). Most of the cars in GT5 are pretty much cars anyone can drive in real life. But that's just what makes it so fun in my opinion, can compare to your real life car and see how it would handle when tuned/upgraded. Or if you don't want to crash your car on the Nordschleife in real life, can just drive it in game. :p Could even practice in game if you would go try it in real life.

Exciting and romantic? Not much difference between a gas and electric car really, just no loud sound (and many others in real life but talking about in game ofcourse). Doesn't make it less exciting for me. Anyway, you don't have to suffer, just don't drive the eco cars. Other people are happy with them, me being one of them.

and the thing millions of people want is their dream cars.

So what if my dream car happens to be the Tesla Roadster? Sucks they messed it up, but I still love driving it. Win often with it too in same PP online races.
Seems like you only want the cars that you like in the game, but other people like different cars. Don't see why they shouldn't be in the game. Many cars in the game that I'd never drive but I'm still happy they're in the game so people who do like them can use them.

I'm all for vans, trucks or anything else you can race with on a track. More variety makes it more fun.

Honestly, I really want to haul a Ford Transit round the Nurburgring under 10 minutes...

Don't forget that Sabine Schmidt (the 'Ring Taxi driver) couldn't do it... and that the layout TG used isn't auto-timeable in game ;)

hmmm add black cabs in the mix.

black cabs + transit vans + london circuit = mayhen (or normal commute for some people)

Mercedes-Benz A 160 Avantgarde '98. It's a van right?

Though, it would be cool to take a Dodge Caravan or Chevy Astro van around the 'Ring.

I'd rather have a few vans than 20k Skylines, Miatas, 3000s, etc.

+1 for the Supervan 3 and the Transit

I'd also like to see some classic vans from the 60's and 70's. Can you imagine rockin the Ring with a giant mural painted on the side of your van?

How about something painted like the Mystery Machine or the A-Team van?

As far as racing vans in real life, all I can say is that I do it almost every morning when I get off work, and eventually it's going to become extremely expensive. Hasn't yet, because I haven't been caught... yet. (Now, let that sink in, then let it go. This post isn't for a street racing debate, so let it go or make your own thread.)

Personally I would like to drive the third generation Vandura, some of the G-series Chevrolets and the mighty Toyota Hiace. It would be super fun van racing. :)

I'll agree the term MPV is a rather meaningless piece of marketing drivel that catched on (I mean, Multi Purpose Vehicle could describe most everyday cars as they're probably all being used for more than one purpose) but it's used to describe people-carriers (which again is what most cars tend to be able to do) which do differ from commercial vans as these are mostly used by companies to transport basically everything that fits into the cargo bay (sometimes this includes even people, although this practice often isn't used by companies, at least not the bona fide kind).

It's sometimes quite hard to pigeonhole which car fits into the MPV category (Renault Espace and similar are easy) and which are just vans with added seats being sold as either a luxury van or a big MPV (or just a van with extra seats).
As a general rule I call a vehicle a van when it's either only or also available as a commercial van, or I use the term small bus to describe the version purely aimed to transport a lot of people as these vehicles tend to be much bigger than most MPV's.
Most MPV's are not available as a commercial vehicle (some are though) and often based on saloons or hatchbacks mechanically unlike a people carrier based on a commercial van.
Confused? I know I am after writing this, stupid marketing slogans...next up; the SUV.........

I'd only allow vans if we can have signs on the side, like the number you can add onto RM cars. Maybe have a GT Auto mobile service van, or a support van for your favourite car. :p

Or ladder racks! If we get vans, then I want utes. El Camino anyone?
