Loving those car seats - the 70's really was the decade that taste forgot!

There is lots of information available from this link which contains period road test articles.

Personally I was a big fan of the race car which was built to promote the large Vauxhall Saloon range and driven by the incomparable Gerry Marshall - it was known as "Big Bertha" and powered by a 5 litre Repco Holden V8 producing 500bhp. It was too big and heavy to be a success, but was a great promotional vehicle and spawned posters for many boys bedroom walls. The engine was later used to great effect in the "Baby bertha" droop snoot Firenza which dominated UK Super Saloon racing in the mid 70's.

Above the incomparable Gerry Marshall - definitely one of the UK's best ever racing drivers - with the Big Bertha V8 and a bevy of beauties - I've had to censor the poster, but the original could be seen adorning the wall of almost every boys bedroom in the early seventies!

Vote for "Baby Bertha" here!:

Gerry Marshall? Even I have heard of him, me not liking racing cars and all. Is this the dude who had a heart attack during a race and still had a presence of a mind to pull up to safety for other drivers?

Yes JKgo - Gerry was an amazing driver and a larger than life character. He looked like he would be more at home behind the counter of a butchers shop than behind the wheel of a racing car, but he won more races than any other driver from the UK and many rate him as one of the best of all time. Enjoy this fantastic old footage.

PS - no intention to cause offence Starlight - great editing by you!

Great footage, the Gerry is driving all the way "on the limit" ... awesome!
👍

No offence at all, just did it for the one who maybe gets offended.
Thanks!
