That's a slow turnaround time... :sick: No wonder profit margins are so thin for car manufacturers. :scared:

A few brands, like Mini and Scion, move cars in a matter of weeks.

Thinking about this a little more, I bet that Volkswagen was on order and the dealer delivered the car about the same day it came in. It's the only way to explain the quick processing of the title, too - usually it takes several weeks or more.

Yeah. I traded it in back in November(I think) of '03, when I bought my '04 Altima. Looks like the same second owner still owns the car. I haven't seen the car since I got rid of it, but my buddies' seen it around town. It was a beauty.

Indeeders, though Scion and Mini don't sell at very high margins. I bet a Mercedes dealer is perfectly okay with selling one S-class at a $7000 take every three weeks instead of three at a $500 take every four days for about fifteen reasons.

It's an 2.5S with the 2.5L. Only V6 car I've ever owned was my first car, '85 Maxima. Altima's 4 banger isn't too bad though. Lot's of torque and plenty of HP(175) for 4 banger.

That's terrible, though, when you think about it. No wonder all of the car dealers in New York are scamming customers. One Cadillac dealer around here was recently shut down for tax evasion. :sick: ... among other things. There was also a dealer scam occuring in the Albany area. Just how close are these manufacturers to some new-car dealers?

It's an 2.5S with the 2.5L. Only V6 car I've ever owned was my first car, '85 Maxima. Altima's 4 banger isn't too bad though. Lot's of torque and plenty of HP(175) for 4 banger.

Not very. They tend to stay a distance from one another - the manufacturers, in my experience, really don't give a **** about the operations at the dealer. The dealer simply sells a product the manufacturer happens to make. Consider, say, Target and Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Kraft is Kraft, Target is just a retailer. I think that analogy is pretty fair for the auto industry, too.

It's more efficient, quicker, and more powerful indeed. Gotta love advancement. I mean, at the time, the Altima wasn't even in existence, and twenty years later, it's one of the fifteen best-selling cars in the US. Hell, in 1992 the Altima wasn't even in existence, and look at it now. And it didn't even offer a V6 until 2002! And when it debuted for '02 it was as long as the 2000-2003 Maxima, which it was supposed to be slotted under! I consider the 2002 Altima to be one of the best redesigns in automotive history - it put the Altima and Nissan in general on the map.

Nissan has taken some huge steps forward since 1998/1999, when they offered a grand total of eight models, including Infiniti.

My car has a 17 digit VIN code but it's in a different format (12 letters followed by 5 numbers) I assume it's an NZ issued vin number but I would have no clue where my car was manufactured.

Reckon it'll work?

Why's it twelve letters first? If the vehicle was manufactured in New Zealand, I believe the VIN should begin with a 6. I'd like to know the VIN just for knowledge's sake.

It's a Ford but it's an English Ford, not an Australian Ford model which is more common...

Sorry... apparently the though the VIN code is 17 digits, the US format is different. This is the error message I received:

The VIN you supplied, "", is invalid. Please check the number for accuracy and try again below.

- The letters "I", "O", and "Q" never appear in a VIN. (in the United States)
- The VIN must be exactly 17 characters in length. (CHECK)
- The CARFAX database contains information for cars manufactured from 1981 through the present. (I'm assuming it was made AFTER 1981...either way it doesn't work... sorry. :( )

That VIN is wrong - it's 2T1. The letter I is never used in VIN numbers.

By the way, how does your mom like her '94 Corolla sedan or wagon?

That VIN isn't a US VIN though - Corolla VINs started with J that year - so I wouldn't be surprised if Carfax tells you it's no good. Also, US VINs that year carried a letter in the eighth position. Good luck
 
-It's a '91. I think. That letter might have been a V (The M, which I'm assuming is the year based on the breakdown of my VIN). Stamped metal is hard to read in the dark.
-Why would the VIN be American? It was sold here, and there's a good chance it was made in Cambridge.
-She doesn't like it that much; her last car was a Camry, so this is a step down (even though it's 6 years newer). She also hates automatics, which it is. And the last guy who owned it had some really heinous air freshener which we haven't been able to completly wash out.
