well today i took a good look over the nissan patrol motor i got and theres a 3/4 inch long crack in the block. im taking that back to stick up the wreckers arse.

now im having thoughts about rebuilding the original 4litre toyota motor. new crank, rods, pistons etc. whole job. it will need a new diesel pump and ill look into a turbocharger too.

Where are you? You should be able to find a chevy, or a ford V8 around somewhere for reletively cheap.

Another tip: Find an insurance auction and bid on a vehicle that has had a major rear collision. That should get you everything you need in good running order.

went down to the local branch of chevrolet and enquired about a new LS6. we got talking and he said that i could import a turbo diesel 454ci v8 for 4 grand australian. 432 bhp and 511 foot pounds of torque  !

now that would kill riceburners

i think youd be surprised. the big block has the torque to pull it to the maximum power rating easily. a higher torque is always good to have.

speed isnt the issue with this anyway, im after a decent amount of torque for hill climbing. 500 off foot pounds ought to do it

If you are putting bigger tires on it, It really won't matter, off-road isn't it?

Also, realise the turbo desiel is WWAAAAAYYYY more expensive to service. Especially when it comes time to freshen up the turbo.

doesnt matter. dont wanna sound like a chode but ive got plenty of money. i live with my girlfriend and we both earn over 70 grand a year.

i probably wont even buy that, it might be too much of a pain in the arse to get in. ill just settle for the 350 or 351. that will supply plenty of grunt. a 350 chev can be worked to over 600hp naturally aspirated (no blower/turbo) and if i wanted that kinda power id just get a big block so that the motor isnt stressed as hard to produce that kind of power.

383ci stroker motor, needs a rebuild and a new intake manifold but everything else is a ok. 430 bucks. not too shabby. the guy i got it off had it in a 64 impala and said that it has over 400hp. wont beleive him till i get it fixed and dyno'd.

when i know the engine is fine ill get an overdrive option for the current 5 speed and a 9 inch LSD.

ill take some photos this afternoon probably.
