There grinding in a lot of games. The modern warfare series, the final fantasy, heck, even world of Warcraft! why should GT5 be any different? By the way, I've noticed a pattern emerging in the seasonal events in the last two weeks. First the classic races, if you payed attention, the credit payout range from 60.000 to over 70.000. Then the current series for the 80s, with prizes over 85.000. It seems that PD has decided to raise the rewards each week. In 2 weeks, we could be seeing 100k prizes. Also, in real racing, the prize money gets eaten up real quick what with the cost of a pit crew, gas, tires etc, so in that regard, the game get it right.

The reason GT5 should be different is because it's a racing game. There's little to no precedent for racing games to have any significant grinding. So, people don't buy racing games anticipating or wanting to grind.

Whether you enjoy the grind or not has nothing to do with what anyone else thinks of it.

In real racing I would argue that the winnings aren't enough to cover the overhead of the cars/drivers/pit. It's the sponsorship that brings the moolah.

Also, the Bonus Races in the Seasonal Events paid out something like $2 million for the last race. I would say that even though PD has increased the payouts recently, they certainly haven't done it to the extent that they originally did it.

I think it would make sense to make the bonus races something of an actual bonus. If you get to level 40 in both A and B spec, they should be unlocked. It would be a way to keep the game fresh for those who have accomplished everything else. It gives them a reason to continue to play.

I for one think it wouldn't be so bad if being lvl 40 meant something, but as it stands now I've race lvl 30 or even 20's that are way better racers than a lot of the lvl 40 guys i run in to. Why because most people from what i can tell just grind the heck out of the indy race over and over with some random over powered car. Witch gets them to lvl 40 and requires little skill. I think it should take significantly longer to get to lvl 40. How they would do this and make it so people wouldnt just grind indy even more idk?

Theres no felling of acomplishment, i want to have to fight my but off for that win and then be rewarded for it. However there needs to be something for not comming in first as well. I would say the money and exp we have now is good for about a 5th place finish, then have the rewards rise significantly as you go up from there. Also the competition from the ai drivers needs to be better either in the form of better driving or more equal cars. it shouldn't be possable to lap anyone in a 5 lap race at indy.

Or they need to just raise the prize money a lot and get rid of the lvl system, because right not it dosn't mean anything if you're lvl 25 or 40. My .02

There was no grinding in gt4 or forza 3.

What grind? no-ones forcing you to "grind". Enjoy the repetitive nature of motorsport :)

Don't compare GT5 to real life.

Real Life Indy 500 = $2.5+ million
GT5 Indy 500 = $247,000

Real Life Lambo Miura = < 300k Euro's
GT5 Miura = $20 million

This game is so whacked when compared to real life.

Every video game is whacked when compared to real life. It's called video game, not virtual reality.

Yes! 👍

Fixed.

Ever thought that maybe the xp's you get for a race should depend in some way on the PP of the car you use, like a handicap system. So if you run a race with a disadvantaged car and still win, it's xp x10 or something. So then the alternative to grinding is to be damn good with slower cars.

GT4 did that with the points awarded - so using an equal car rewarded you far more than picking something overpowered; not sure about the cash rewards though.

Also, I'm fairly sure there was a fair bit of grinding in GT4 as well...

That would be grate. If they did it, it would be nice if the reward increse was significant. Like another 20-30%

There was LOTS of grinding in GT4, just not for XP. I remember grinding away on a Rally Event so many times for money, that the track is still etched in my brain.

There was a figure of 8 track on GT2 I think where you won a boatload of cash and a TVR speed 12 that you could sell for more cash. Never thought of it as grinding then, but...

edit: Looks like it might've been Red Rock Valley.

I believe that it should be simple. I think it was the first Gran Turismo that did this with money, but after the first time you beat a race, the money payout was substantially lower. That meant the only way to get the money was to race all the races, not just grind. Likewise, the xp should do the same that it would be faster to just get the levels by racing the races instead of grinding one race. Also, I think as far as the game layout is concerned, the first GT had it right. Put more restrictions on each race. Use a power to weight ratio, or a pp that accounts for all modifications like Forza. Make it possible to reach the top level without a ton of grinding or repeating. Basically, the game needed more races to start with. Even the original GT had more races than this one.

All GT5 needs is a massive expansion of A-Spec events. 100-200 should do.

No! Just played gt4 last night and there was no 20m cr. cars... The credits and xp system in gt5 sucks. No opinion just facts. GT5 is a very short game and to make the game last longer PD added the stupid level system and made some of the cars super expensive. I have alot of ideas on how to make this game better and I've seen other people on this forum with many ideas to make this game better. I would not have taken alot of time to implement then to the game and PD could've come up with them in a day.

GT5 is a pretty game with great physics but terrible gameplay. Online is good but I just don't have the time to be online all the time.

Yep. GT4 had the easy Capri Rally that gave you the Toyota Rally car over and over and over. And each time you could sell it for 260k credits off the top of my head.

No grinding needed in GT4 because the prizes and prizecars were great.

brambos
over and over and over.

No grinding needed

Uhh. Little contradictory there aren't we?

There has been some sort of grind in every GT game. I remember doing a bunch of races around the ring in GT1 in a cheap miata in order to buy a better car sooner.

GT4 had the DTM championship that I must have done 50 billion times to buy all the cars the game had to offer.

I did wheelie laps in the escudo over and over again in order to make some quick cash.

This isn't anything new guys. It's been around for a while. Sorry if you forgot.

Grinding has been around in GT series but it's grown exponentially in GT5.

I remember Red rock valley in GT2 was about 285,000 credits a run I think prize money and selling prize car, and took around 5 or 6 minutes a run. Most expensive car in the game was the escudo I think for 2,000,000. So 7 runs of that race or around 40 min and you had the most expensive car and could work down from there.

GT3 don't remember too well, most expesive car price was similar to GT2, money payout and prize car value was similar. Game had so little cars compared to GT2,4,or 5 that no grind was really needed. You won a good portion of the cars in the game.

GT4, DTM challenge, prize money plus prize car value thought was just around 800,000 and took about 20 minutes so 2.4 million an hour. Most expensive car in the game I think was 4,500,000 so under 2 hours would get you that.

GT5, Indy, 98,000 in under 4 minutes about 1.2 million an hour. Most expensive car 20,000,000 so around 17 hours you can get that. That is a huge growth, and considering GT5's A-spec mode or really the game in total has so fewer events and prize cars to be won getting the cars you want will take a huge effort and collecting all cars as some people like to do specially considering GT5 leaves you no other way to drive most cars other than to obtain them in GTlife the grind has grown by a enormous margin.

Reason for the growth, online play basically, they are trying to create an artificial econmy to support the online portion of the game and want everyone to have different cars. Thus offline players or really the whole offline game in general was just scrapped together basically. So really, GT5 almost isn't a GT game at all, it's focus is nothing like the prior games, it's a new generation of GT series and expect future games whenever before 2020 the next one comes to be more of the same. Today, racing your b-spec drivers against each other is more important than having a thorough single player game.

I have played all the GT series games as well, i remember watching the promo videos for the original GT game on PS and was so impressed. However, i too am deeply disappointed in the retail version thus far of GT5. I personally do not understand what exactly took so long to get this game to market. Maybe PD is spreading themselves too thin with all their real world engagements, or maybe it's time to hire some more talent to help. I was expecting much more in this installment of the GT series, but this just looks like more of the same with graphics improvements, and engine updates to stay current with rival products. Whatever happened to the promise of using GT5:P data for a headstart in GT5? Did they simply hope we would forget about that?

If the hope is that the online ability will carry GT5, then i believe online racing options should be much more detailed for the host. Such as being able to pick 'class' types for races, such as Supercars, 4WD, Midengine, Turbo, NA, and so forth. Also being able to not allow cars that use front adjustable downforce, so the host can do a streetcar only race w/o having to do it verbally, and with a pre-existing knowledge of what cars have front df. Maybe even allow for a five race championship, or any number of race championship.

I do like the idea of a B-spec race series, but it does seem kind of like a cheap add on. But one thing i don't understand is, why can't i race against my own B-spec drivers? Even if only on a practice session.

Like a previous post mentions, so many great ideas exist on this board and on the feedback section of this site. Plus so many of them seem like an easy thing to implement into the game, although i am no programmer. The career mode of the GT series does not seem to have evolved since possibly GT2, maybe not at all depending on how one views it. Come on PD, i love the GT series, and i currently play the hell out of GT5, but so many simple fixes and improvements could send this game over the top.

Yes there was a fair bit of grinding in GT4, but we were rewarded every time we re-raced a race we had already golded with sell-able cars as well as the prize credits, unlike GT5 which has FAAAAAAR fewer events and more expensive cars.
That and we could engage our Bobs and X3 the race for quick cash.

Because we were rewarded time and time again it felt less of a grind and more of a cash earner so fewer people moaned. as stated, unlike GT4, 5 has fewer events and more expensive cars so it is MUCH harder to attain the same cars we had in 4 due to the restrictions of fewer cars that are sellable and for much less credits, as well as stupid car prizes for 5, so grinding is absolutely a must for 5 as opposed to 4.

I remember that you could sell it at £500,000 a time for 10 laps I think, might even have been less laps

👍 I'm of the same opinion as well. GT5 is the only game I play and it breaks my heart to see such a poorly designed game around a first class game engine. Like you said, some of the things are really simple and a moderately capable programmer can do them in days. That tells me that they didn't play-test this game at all.

Remember Kaz saying in 2009 about being able to release GT5 any time he wants? From what I can see, that was an outright lie (or the man was delusional).

Nope. It's a matter of scale. If prefer doing 5 minutes of Capri rally over hours of Indy oval laps. There's no sense of balance in GT5, there is in GT4.

This isn't anything new guys. It's been around for a while. Sorry if you forgot.

I didn't forget. Actually I'm playing GT4 again. Everything is so much more fun and well balanced. You get access to useful cars much easier. Prizecars are actually useful and desirable.

I wish there was an offline-only version of GT5. Everything went downhill when PD gave in and went along with the online fad for the 14 year olds.

There is an offline version, don't sign in to PSN. Personally I'm thankful for the online, it's the games best feature IMO. I've found 10-15 really good, clean fast guys I race with all the time, and fools who come into our rooms we kick.

Without the online this game would have lasted me less than a month, I'd be so disappointed with it i would never buy anything by PD again. By the way, I'm more than 14x3.

Good for you... It's great that gaming online works for you, because after all that's virtually all that's left in GT5 after breezing through A-spec career in 2-3 weeks.

But I feel online is not worth my time and is *certainly* not an excuse for basically not having a proper offline career mode. PD got extremely lazy on us.

And that's the problem right there. However great online might be, the offline component should never have been so shallow. People with no internet/poor connections aside, sometimes you just want to work on your career mode by yourself. That option goes away pretty fast in GT5.

I couldn't agree more, A Spec is disgracefully bad. The seasonal events (when they had restrictions) made up for it a little. Now that the seasonals are unrestricted I don't even bother with them. If they never get updated again after the earthquake, I for one won't be complaining.

I feel sorry for anyone without an adequate internet connection, anyone I knew in that position I would recommend them to spend their money on a different game.

Grinding exists in many games and it is always a bad thing. Grinding means restricting access to game content until the player spends time doing something unchallenging within the game. But to be a game, there must be a challenge. Without that, it's just a movie - a very boring movie.

Real racing is never like that. From the first practice session of any race event, the driver is constantly under pressure to go fast, learn about the track and set up the car. Tediously marking time is never a part of racing. In that sense, GT5 is failing to capture the joy and exhilaration of motor sport. The grind is closer to the reality of being a taxi driver than a racing driver. If that was the intention then a free roam TDU style game would have mode more sense. Including race tracks is just a tease.

Bottom line: we're not being rewarded for our skill as drivers, only for time we spend playing the game. Being at level 40 is nothing to be proud of - it's something a paperweight could do. Golding all the licenses, on the other hand, is hugely impressive. It's a shame the game doesn't realise that.
