Wow, there are so many things wrong with that list. I mean Lenny Kravitz?!
And I definately prefer Foreigner and Danzig over Slayer. And being a Motley Crue fan, I really think it should have been a bit higher. I agree with some of them, but the Nirvana one is a bit to high. Maiden and Priest could have been a bit higher. But anyways, I agree with a lot of the Top places.

Nine Inch Nails ahead of Pantera? Marilyin Manson ahead of Green Day? I'm not a fan of MM or Green Day but I'd listen to them before Manson any day. You're right about Nirvana, they're way too high. I think Metallica should be ahead of AC/DC, and should maybe even be top three.

How the hell the Red Hot Chili Peppers got up there, I'll never know.
Unless they're different from those 3 guys and that girl.

How could they not be? RHCP is amazing. You're crazy.

You're telling me those 3 dudes and that girl that's always on TV is better than some of those bands?

They don't play any d*mn instruments unless they used to. Just dancing around.
They're not even rock! More like Pop.

That's why I asked if they're the same as the pop singers or a different group. They don't belong in this thing if they are.

I love Lenny Kravitz. He's more talented than you think. ;)

How did they rate the bands/artists? From what I can gather, it's so ridiculous that I'm not going to even bother commenting on their selection. Did they have 10 judges rating them or something?

Edit:

Yes, Red Hot Chili Peppers are talented. Freaks, but talented. :D

You must be thinking of the wrong Chilis

How the hell is Primus even on that list? And why is Megadeath higher than Marilyn Manson? I listen to both, and like Megadeath, but the crap they pour out pales in comparison to my 5 year old cousin using his head as a drumstick. I mean, they just suck that much. Argh.

And why is Rage Against The Machine only 33?! They should easily be top 15!

[edit]

And I've never even heard of the bands between 81-87.

[edit]

KORN?! WTF?! KORN?! WHY TF IS KORN EVEN ON THAT LIST?! WTF?! KORN?!?!?!

PS
And I've never even heard of the bands between 81-87.
You might be too young to know Whitesnake and Foreigner, but they were great bands. I've heard of Pixies, they are supposedly pretty good.

D*mmit, that's it.
They're just so d*mn annoying and never go away...
Thanks for pointing that out. :)

Anyways, I have no idea how Slayer or Korn made it....
BTW, PS, you should check out Foreigner. They're pretty good.

What the.... Where's Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble?

And Zeppelin shouldn't be on top. Up there, yes. But not on top.

I haven't even heard of some of these guys... presumably newer bands. Green Day shouldn't be on there, neither should Korn.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and Foreigner should all be a few places higher. The Yardbirds lower. Oh, Blue Oyster Cult should be a bit higher, too. KISS should be lower.
I appear to have missed the Rolling Stones, who should be higher.

Edit - I forgot about the Tragically Hip. They should be in there somewhere.

Edit2 - They also forgot about The Guess Who. And BTO. If Steppenwolf is on there, so should BTO. And what about the Steve Miller Band?

RHCP have a brilliant bassist among many things. Way to get confused 👍

How the hell did Queen gets so high? I'd never even call them rock.
And Meatloaf. He's way down but WTF!

Foo Fighters did okay.

Led Zeppelin will always be on the top of the list 👍

AC/DC, come on, how the hell did they beat Queen, The Rolling Stones, and Yes?

Who picks this stuff a bunch of guys that have been locked in a closet for 20 years?

There are a lot of bands that I would place lower than what they actually are, but I dont have the time to do it

Let's see, I'll do what I normally do for these type of threads.

Too High
6.Nirvana - A decent band, but overrated on every single list.
5.Metallica - Decent, I guess, but not top 10 material, I'd put them in the 40s.
7.Van Halen - I still don't understand why everybody jerks off over this band, their vocals suck, their songs are cheesy, all they have is a good guitarist.
53. Korn - Why are they even on here?
85. Whitesnake - Another band that shouldn't even be on this list.
9. Guns N' Roses - Top 10 ever, c'mon, maybe mid 70s or 80s.
80. Green Day - Made a few good albums a long time ago, but they're so ****ty now that there's no way they should be included in this list.
93. Lenny Kravitz - I don't even really consider him a musician.

Too Low
15. Pink Floyd - Way too much talent to be out of the top 10, KISS, Van Halen, and Nirvana before Pink Floyd!? Come on.
67. Rolling Stones - A slap in the face giving them such a low spot, I'd stick them in the 20s somewhere.

Omitted
CCR - With bottom of the barrel bands like Whitesnake and Foreigner on this list, I'm very disappointed that CCR wasn't included, they're better than most bands on there.

Grateful Dead - Not everybody liked them, but they were too big to be left off the top 100. Unless VH1 doesn't consider them rock...

Allman Brothers - Some of these omissions really make me mad when I see the bands on this list. The Allman Brothers deserve a spot in the top 50 at least.

That's enough for now

33!? 33!!! what the hell!! Rage should be in the top 20 easy!!

Green day shouldnt even be in there...

Would have though Iron Maiden would be higher too...

How did they decide all this!?

AC/DC - Check. Motley Crue - Check. Extreme - No.
WHAT THE ****??!!! Extreme pwns half of the band in that list... :grumpy:
And I agree with you Mclaren, Motley Crue should have been higher in the rankings 👎

Who picks this stuff a bunch of guys that have been locked in a closet for 20 years?
Probably IGN. I mean, just look at their 100 best games ever list :dunce:

Pink Floyd should be in the top 5, Dark Side of the Moon was in the charts for 14 years. They are amazingly talented. Hendrix was on a completely different level of awesome vision/talent/skill/etc etc than anyone. Black Sabbath better? What the? And Led Zep shouldn't be #1, but I don't know what should be, as the whole premise of making a list like this is immature and pointless. Music is just different, not better or worse depending on some young jerk's point of view. Maybe the list is just to create controversy, and thats just what it did.

The Rolling Stones should be right up there... its bloody obvious. Also, if The Beatles were ever considered a rock band (and not just pop), then they would be right up there at the top.

SRV and Double Trouble would probably be considered "blues" by the editors and not a "rock band" in the pure sense of the word and not included. By the same token, how is Queen denoted as a rock band, and not "pop opera"? The only thing 'rock' about Queen is that Brian May saved it from sounding like a mardi-gras float all the time...

My final stupifying observation... WHERE THE **** IS DIRE STRAITS? They were bloody HUGE, one of the biggest and best rock acts in the world!! Mark Knopfler has more talent (songwriting/guitar playing/individual style/class) than the majority of those bands put together. WTF mate?!

The last 80 positions or so were seemingly filled in pretty much randomly by the editors... what this "list" achieves I don't know, it just proves that the mag knows nothing about music.

I completel agree with the Pink Floyd issue.

And Hendrix, come on, that guy is in a league of his own. He has his own list, he's so good.

I think this post makes the most sense.

Although I hate these top 100 list things, you'll never manage to please everyone.

Queen, not rock and roll? :ouch: How many albums have you listened to? If the only thing that you have heard is whats on the radio, then you really should try and listen to something that is worth listening to by them. The only thing you hear on the radio is the songs that are making the bands money, the real songs are the ones that you havent heard yet.

The thing I probably definitely agree with is that Led Zeppelin deserve top place. I don't think I could disagree much with Black Sabbath and Jimi Hendrix being the next two placements. AC/DC and Metallica are also correct placements. Now here's where the problems start:

Nirvana number 6? I hope someone at VH1 got fired for that. It really irks me that the primary reason that Nirvana get so much attention, and I mean no disrespect, is through Kurt Cobains death. Nirvana are very overrated as a band, and shouldn't be placed anywhere near the Top 10. Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains hands-down should outplace Nirvana in the Seattle Sounds category alone, let alone Rock. Van Halen, The Who, G'n'R and Kiss I agree with, but Aerosmith and the Sex Pistols have been placed a little too high.

Queen deserve their spot, but Soundgarden number 14? I love Soundgarden, but there is no way they should outplace the likes of Pink Floyd, or most of the bands in the Top 40. The Clash have also been placed too high for me. Not many more problems until we hit Cheap Trick and Motorhead. Too high. Motorhead are another overrated band. Don't get me wrong, I like Motorhead, but lyrically and sometimes vocally, they don't polish up as well as a lot of the bands below them, and I don't understand how they got as high as they did. Not happy that Jane's Addiction placed that high, either. #35? They should be much closer to 100, in my personal opinion.

I'm very happy that the Yardbirds got a high place. Very unnoticed, underplayed supergroup. They basically created Led Zeppelin, and housed the likes of Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and from memory, I believe Keith Moon for a short period, who actually came up with the name "Led Zeppelin". They deserve high recognition.

Korn at Number 53? Now I'm not a person who will dismiss a band because they are newer than a lot of the classic bands, but I disagree with them even making the Top 100, let alone #53. It seems sometimes that the people who create lists like these realise they've left some newer bands out and decide to add in one that they like. Korn are not a "great" rock band as such, by all means, in my opinion. White Zombie at #56? Whoa. Didn't see that coming either. I like White Zombie, but still...

Ministry placed at #62 and Tool #88? They should be closer together, and I believe Tool should be placed higher. A Perfect Circle could even be placed in there. Rolling Stones only #67? Definitely deserve higher. Megadeth #69? Much, much too high. I wonder whether they deserve a spot. Spinal Tap? They're a joke band, and not even that funny, come on! Primus is another interesting choice. I wouldn't call them great, but they are very unique.

By the way, where the hell is Janis Joplin, INXS and the Baby Animals?

I'm not too unhappy with this list, not as much as I was with the Rolling Stone list anyway, or any Rolling Stone list for anything. And I realise you can't make a perfect list, so not a bad job by the people at VH1.

*Note: The above post is purely opinionated, and is not intended to offend anyone reading. I apologise if anyone is offended by any part of the above post.

I have a friend. He's obsessed with Queen. He plays it constantly in my D.T class on mini speakers. I've resorted to listening to rap so as not to die from listening to Queen.

I think I have heard enough to judge.

Also I'm mentally scarred from sitting in a coach with 40 other people singing 'Bohemian Rapsidy.' I still have nightmares....

It's OK not to like Queen, but Queen is a rock band. One of the greats, IMO, but everyone's got different taste. :)

Sorry dude, I didnt realize that it was that bad...lol...lol...lol...

I'll say the Yardbirds should have been Higher, If you notice (80. Green Day), you'll see that this alone tells that the list is pure BS by VH1 to waste a few hours of someone's time with a TV show, make the list crap, and then get lots of viewers.

Come on, Rolling Stones that low on the list?! WTF?! Not only are they probably the oldest beand still together, but they are the most influential, helping make Rock and Roll what it is today. (well, the better parts) Putting them at # 67 not only is a slap in the face, but shows that this list was made by 15 year olds voting on the internet, not by editors discussing who were the most influential. If I see a top 100, I expect to see a little bit of effort put into compiling it.

The fact that Green Day was even on the list makes it invalid, as the list doesn't have:

CCR - Where are they? Aren't they one of the more well known bands from the late 60's-early 70's?

Eric Clapton - Again, wtf? Clapton is one of the best guitarists ever. Period. He does blues, yeah, but his rock is great. And, to all the pusheaded MTV watchers, blues is an integral part of what we call rock and roll.

Cream EDIT - # 16, but should be a spot higher. Jeff Beck also played for them after Clapton went solo, I believe.

Stevie Ray Vaughn - Uhh... needs no explanation.

Also, why is Lynyrd Skynyrd at # 71? They should be way higher, their style is different, they were one of the pioneers of southern rock, and also have a distinct sound that In my Opinion, can't be duplicated.

Overrated:

Nirvana
Green Day
Van Halen - I'm a big fan, and Eddie is an amazing guitarist, but they aren't all that great or influential.
