I can't decide between either lol. I've only got 20 bucks and I want both lol.

Vice City.

It's a worthy investment either way, because it's a fantastic game.

You know it makes sense!

Well I used to have it but I'm very hesitant. I want both beyond belief.

Nothing personal against it (heaven knows I put hundreds of hours into it), but if you aren't going to get the PC version then it isn't worth getting these days.

This is true. But no game collection is complete without a copy of Vice City on some platform. Although I agree that PC would be better than PS2.

Modtastic.

Well, there is that (I modded my copy exactly to my liking, and have kept it that way across multiple computers for something like 4 years now), but honestly it controls so much better on the PC that I can't even play it on the PS2 anymore. I mean, mouse aim does break the balance somewhat (especially the assault rifles), but that is a small price to pay for being able to actually hit things with the guns whenever you want.

Among other things (better graphics, MP3 support, some of the glitches fixed, etc.). Can probably get it for less money, too.

True but I use an older PC that doesn't have good enough specs to run it. Even my newer one is questionable. I have most of the GTA's on console anyways so I'll probably get used to it. Either way I'll get both eventually but I want to know which to get first. Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories are next on the list. I can't even play GTA 3 because of the quirky controls and lack of the moveable camera on PS2. I just am so hung up lol.

I wasn't too keen on the PSP Stories, to be honest.

And I loved III! The fact that by the end of the game every gang except the Yakuza tries to shoot you is awesome. Survival in St. Mark's and so on...

I'm so used to other open world games that I just can't get used to them. I got as far as the first mission you need a gun for and that was it. I threw the controller and said screw it I can't do it anymore lol. I have a PSP but I won't by either of those games for it, most likely will be PS2. If I do get a Memory Stick Duo though I might pick them up for the hell of it for something to do when I'm not home.

I've given III 2 chances now and I just can't lol. It's so hard. I can't ever figure out how to shoot and like I said that stupid fact that you can't rotate the camera drives me nuts.

I suppose that could be difficult. But I've spent so many hours that I'm used to it. (Although as an aside, I hate the camera in Metal Gear Solid 3. Can't wait for the 360 camera in the new release!)

And if you're getting games for PSP, just go on PSN and get Crash Bandicoot 1-3 and Team Racing. Sorted!

---

But yeah, Vice City is a worthy investment in any games collection. Perhaps save up for two lots of GT5 DLC and get an even bigger enjoyment out of it?

III has, in my opinion, aged really really badly. Vice City is still perfectly playable, even though it does have some rough spots that San Andreas got rid of (the car controls/camera, mostly). But III is just so clunky. Everything about it makes it seem like an unfinished version of Vice City; and while I recognize that isn't fair, them's the breaks.

And while Vice City was never the prettiest of games, I've never thought it looked outright ugly; which is a trait I can't say applies to III. Even when it was new I thought the art direction was pretty poor, and not trying to mask it like Vice City did has made it look much worse as time rolls on.

Well, that's what happens with games as time goes on. They become technologically inferior, even if the replayability remains.

Formula 1 97 is absolute pants compared to racing games today. But that doesn't stop me spending hours, and I mean hours on it even today. Same story with Metal Gear Solid 1 or Tekken 3 or hell, Sonic The Hedgehog!

But I thought the step up from GTA2 to GTAIII was incredible. I was quite disappointed and often frustrated with GTA2 and I still regard GTAIII as being a milestone in my own personal video gaming history. The first real sandbox game I played.

Probably won't get many games for my PSP any time soon, I've got a lot of cathcing up to do with my older systems even though I've got 70 something games for each system, and that's probably 5 or 6 systems.

I figured. I'm leaning towards thats more so anyways.

And that's the thing. It has aged badly enough that it makes me not want to play it, and I do. It's a great game that I'd be happy to play and probably would have by now if it wasn't for that damn camera. VCS was prettier than Vice City anyways, accroding to the videos I saw on YouTube. Same with GTA III vs LCS.

Well when you put it that way, yes. Compare it to sandboxes today. But these are classics, you have to respect that. They were milestones back then. A few years can make things go a long way. I'm not going to lie, if GTA 5 went back to the old PS2 engine of Renderware and had way more to do than San Andreas I would be happy. Just brighten it up a bit so I don't have to adjust my TV.

?

What are your specs?

Newer PC might, the one I'm on now thats about to go has 348MB ram and IDK about the rest of it. It's some old Compaq from the '90s.

Well, that's what happens with games as time goes on. They become technologically inferior, even if the replayability remains.

Yup, that happens. Like I said before, look at GTA III vs, say L.A. Noire.

I love Sonic! Especially STH 2 for Genesis. I've sunk hours into that but sadly never beat it. My mom has though.

But I thought the step up from GTA2 to GTAIII was incredible. I was quite disappointed and often frustrated with GTA2 and I still regard GTAIII as being a milestone in my own personal video gaming history. The first real sandbox game I played.
Definitely. At least GTA and GTA 2 are free on Rockstar's website now though.

Is it true that Vice City doesn't have 360 degree rotation either like 3? If so, boo lol and I will get the DLC or Vice City Stories.

Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories are rather hard to place graphically. The models and textures are much nicer than those of III and Vice City (especially the ones in VCS. Those ones look great), and are actually pretty close to being as good as the ones in San Andreas, but the display resolution is lower. Even on the PS2 version of VCS (I own both) there's a little niggling feeling in the back of your head that something is "off" about everything compared to Vice City. I've never been able to place what it is.

In regards to your computer, you're right. That Compaq probably woudn't run it.
But anything put together after, say, 2006 should be able to play it without any problem.

San Andreas is the only game from the GTA III era that has that camera system. LCS and VCS had the same camera as III and Vice City (though in those two it wasn't nearly as tight to the car).

No problem here, will be playing on a CRT. My flatscreens are reserved for my PS3 only.

Then my '08 should be fine.

I was pretty sure VCS had the San Andreas camera system. Maybe I was wrong. Huh. I'll have them all eventually anyways. Guess I'm going to have to get used to this camera GTA 3 has then if I want to get good with the rest of them.

EDIT: Just tried GTA III again, for a 3rd time and managed to get used to it enough to play through it some. Going to take some time getting used to but it's looking like it's going to be hard.

It's a top game, Slash. But we all have our preferences; I for example, can't stand point and shoots like Halo or COD.

Yup, that happens. Like I said before, look at GTA III vs, say L.A. Noire.

Now LA Noire. A good, technical game. But I found it far too linear with not much to do outside of the lessons. Graphics and details were magic, don't get me wrong, but I played the main story, did it within two weeks and traded the game in for some shop credit.

COD is ok, and Halo I hate. I prefer sandbox games and music games, and the occasional racing game like GT. When I refered to L.A. Noire, I meant GFX wise. Needs to run a bit smoother though. Man I want both.

Vice City.

You can't believe how great it is for a game that has its 10th anniversary this year. I have pretty much fallen in love with it, nothing has had such an atmosphere. VCS is also good, but it doesn't quite give the same feeling. Vice City does everything right - there's lots of different things to do, magnificent radio stations and obviously lots to explore when you're in the city for the first time. :)

That might sound like it's from a commercial, but there's no real reason to say anything less. ;)

Who-o-o-oh-oh, I just died in your arms tonight...

I'm getting both at some point. About half way through GTA III now. Will likely get Vice City if I come across it for cheap, like under 20 bucks.
.

And what's your opinion on GTA III then? If you're halfway through you must be midway through Staunton Island.

Still don't like the quirky controls but starting to get used to them a bit. Don't like the non 360 degree rotation either but I'm halfway through Staunton Island. I've been changing between Kenji and Asuka. LAst missions I finished from both were the one where you steal the cars and put them in the garage, and the other one was the one were you chase the guy in the police boats and shoot him down. It's pretty easy though. I DO NOT like the car physics, with the cheats on and off.

BTW, since you have GTA 3 on the PC, does it have gore mode automatically on? In the PS2 I must cheat to get it... :(

No I have it for PS2.

@ Mazda, I prefer SA phyiscs since I've played that WAY more. Cars roll WAY to easily in 3.

Yeah, I've spent many, many an hour on III, VC and SA and even though it was a great game (despite the ludicrous storyline), there were a few things wrong with SA and two of them were the cheap sound effects and the car physics.

One thing against III would be the lack of bail-outs. So many taxi bombs have ended up in suicides...

Well my bud looked through his old game collection and is selling me The Godfather and Vice City for 20 and 15 bucks, so it looks like no DLC for me anytime soon. I can't pass those up. I used to have both but then like I said, sold them. And now want them back. Later on I'm getting VCS and LCS as well.

GTA III, it's good, but I'm so used to the newer stuff and that going back is hard. The fact that Claude doesn't speak makes the cutscenes kind of boring for me. That game is kind easy as far as gameplay goes and just lacks so much. But for being that this is an old game, I've got to appreciate it.

Yup, GTA 3's storyline felt empty because there were so few instances with dialogue - most missions were simply Claude getting to his mission giver, who then gives him short instructions and that's that. The later games were completely different.
