Race Driver: Grid (stylised as Race Driver: GRID and also known as GRID) is the latest addition to the TOCA Touring Car series by Codemasters, published and developed by the same company. It was announced on April 19, 2007, and is available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and PC. The game was released on May 30, 2008 in Europe, June 3, 2008 in North America, and in Australia on June 12, 2008.

This game is made by Codemasters, the creators of the TOCA/Race Driver series. GRID is a hybrid between arcade and simulator of mainly tarmac racing that consists of 43 cars. The game features an instant replay feature which allows the player to rewind time by up to 10 seconds. While the instant replay can be used as many times as the player wants, the Flashback feature can only be used a limited number of times, determined by the difficulty setting.

There are several types of competitions for different cars: GT races, open wheel races, demolition derbies, etc. There are also several tracks from different countries, including Japan, United States and European tracks such as Le Mans and Spa Francorchamps. A track through the streets of Milan is also available.

Poor. Not a patch on any of the previous Codemasters racers, namely the TOCA series and latterly the first few Race Driver games. It's an arcade game without the accessibility, and a sim without the realism. The graphics are spoiled by the nasty "bloom" effect that developers insist on using, and the whole game has a patronising, commentated interface. Saved from being "terrible" because at least there's some depth to it and a decent variety of different series in which to race.

Gave this one an Average, a game I currently own. It's pretty nice to look at bar the hazey bloom, the damage and collisions are good, the AI good, the racing pretty intense and I for one loved the drift physics, arcade but still fun and not to simple. What brings it down? the floaty driving, that hazey bloom orange tinge to the graphics, the way cars just didn't seem to turn properly with no driving aids, poor experience on the wheel without excessive tweaking, stupid flashback feature. Who decided flashback was such a brilliant idea, it just made people more likely to shunt and then flashback if things go wrong, and yea accidents happen, but they do in racing to. Make a mistake, have bad luck whatever, things go wrong and I don't think you should get magic powers to fix it.

I gave it good, I enjoyed it and had far more fun on this than any Gran Turismo. Thats my opinion honestly.

Fair enough but I like things to be a little more realistic when it comes to real life cars for example there is no way a Audi R10 gets to 250mph on the Mulsanne straight and what's with being able to lap Spa quicker in a Le mans prototype than an F1 car?

It's like a accessible Toca race driver 3 but I'd rather have V8 supercars, DTM and Indy cars than some naff drifting Japanese setting. But even after these shortcomings its still really fun even if the races do feel scripted at times.

Average. The game itself is not the best around, but it's good for a crash and bash experience. The game is quite short lived and the damage gets very boring after a while as it's almost all 'preset'. Fun while it lasts, basically.

I do agree, and anyone asked if GRID was a sim or not I definitately say it wasn't. But I don't believe that a game has to be like a sim to be fun and enjoyable, sure a couple of stats are out here and there but then again was there ever a Need For Speed which wasn't like that? Albeit NFS games never followed TOCA 3 but I feel as though GRID is a different game to TOCA and appeals to a much wider audience.

Excellent. I enjoyed it from start to finish. It's no sim, but it's arcade style feel that feels comfortable. While the game lacks depth, it makes up for it in presentation.
