Welcome To The Virtual Track Day Series III Discussion Thread

Here at the VTD series, we try to re-create the fun of a track day online. We've come up with a reasonably successful formula that allows everyone to have fun and compete at ANY LEVEL, in (almost) any road car, but particularly sporting roadcars. The current regs can be seen here,.

Normal four door cars and kei cars are excluded because they're really rather dull, but sports saloons such as Evos and M5s are welcomed with open arms, as are all sportscars and supercars.

However, we want to improve our neat new concept, and tidy up a few loose ends, so before we embark on another series in a few weeks time, we're going to decide what we want to change.

Hence the thread, really...

Great to see the 3rd event is going to happen...

Will be back when time permits with more ideas for the series, cars/tracks etc.

regards

Dave

Well, there doesnt seem to be much interest so far does there!

I think that in the first instance we need to work out how many people may be interested in competing in the VTD3 as it may not be worth running.

I for one hope it happens though and have been thinking about circuit choices and car specs.

I think that by allowing mods on high power cars the series has so far not fulfilled its goal to perhaps see lesser power cars mixing it up with the high power ones, maybe for the next series we could see a max power limit of 500bhp and anything over 350 not being allowed any power upgrades?

This would keep the field closer and encourage better handling cars over more powerfull ones I think.

For circuits im thinking along the lines of

Sarthe
Citta di aria
Grand Valley full
Motegi
Tsukuba dry

+ several other choices that i will put in later, control cars to be simple at these events.

I also think we should run on the N3 tyre which is more representative of what the average "Track dayer" might be able to afford....

Bringing me onto the final point, spending should be limited, I would like to see more emphasis on handling upgrades and less on weight reduction or power upping.

Just a few ideas that i had time to write down.

regards

David

Dave

You are not the only one who has been thinking about it (but I suspect its not many more - boo), the points you have raised so far are certainly of interest and you know I will not object to a reduction in the control tyre to N3.

As mentioned previously I would support a spending limit as some of the option currently allowed are very, very expensive and don't sit well with the feel of the series.

The track listing looks interesting, good to see the full Grand Valley Speedway present, a circuit I know and love (and have been waiting for in the VTD).

I do think that while it was a nice idea the 'control' car at each circuit kind of died out and did not help matters as much as it could have.

I think we need a register of interest here and also an idea of who is able to run the series (if anyone).

Well Im happy to run the series but would like to hear from Fasteddie first when he gets his internet back?

Would also like to hear from Holden, gooseter, a112abarth, deathwish and anyone else i have forgot that may object/want to run the event themselves.

Scaff may well be right about the control car thing, might be best to leave that one.

regards

David

Sorry guys, this thread was not showing up as having any new posts, so i didn't check back. I will be unable to run this series, as i will be out of the country for the duration. I will leave it to you guys to sort things out, as FastEddie12 is still uncontactable, starting to worry a bit actually, not like him to not send me the odd smart arsed text message every so often. Abarth also has no PS2 so he may not be interested, but i don't know what happened to Holden...

Good luck guys.

I have to say I would be more than happy for Dave to run the next series, but given the almost total lack of interest I can't see it getting off the ground myself.

Which is a shame as I did very much enjoy the first two in the series.

It may be worth waiting a few weeks on this and then re-introducing the idea, as the summer, people on holiday, starting back at school/work is going to make it hard to a lot of people to get back on board.

Just a thought

Scaff

Hello guys,i will not compete in 3rd event as wasn't competing 2nd one.
I have a few reasons, first of all i don't have ps2 at the moment, and second of all,i'm going to high school to another town distanced about 50km and i'm going to be in a dorm.
Anyway,i will be available to check out the thread once in a while.
Cheers.

Right, well I thought I might reopen this thread, and see if we can drum up some interest this time round.

Discussion is wide open, and anyone with even the slightest hint of interest is greatly encouraged to speak up! 👍

I competed in part of the first one, and got the rules mixed up, but am all up for a third one, though I will probably only enter one car. By the way, which La Sarthe will be used, and will it be Motegi Full?

:dopey: I was so interested in the first VTD series. I hardly race much but I always kept track on who was winning and looking at all the picture and settings. It would be great to get this shat going again.👍

I'd enter this, I saw the first two, but was afraid I needed to register for the WRS first. Now I'm glad I waited because I'm a lot better driver now. If there aren't too many irresistable weeks in the WRS, then I'll be sure to give it a try. Would you say the Toyota 2000GT qualifies as a car you talked about in the first post? Honda Beat (tuned)? Citroen Xsara (tuned a bit)? What HP would you think would be around the lowest? I take it there wouldn't be a highest number, due to the fact that there will be the fastest cars participating? A C1 Corvette would be the lowest I might plan on racing, but I'd race as slow as Honda Beats if there was another category for it.

So, now that some time has passed, I feel that it would be a good time to try to raise a bit of interest in this again. All aspects, aside from the core idea, are up for discussion. Lets make this work people.

Yes. I am extremely interested in doing this still. Would there still be a control car? I'm not sure that I have the time for it.

xjr-9

Time for the control car? Or time for the series? I wasn't a big fan of the control car, as it seemed a little pointless. But perhaps a single round like the first series could work, but on a `wait and see` basis.

I'm not sure that I've got time to do the control car laps, but should be able to fit in 2 or 3 cars.

I haven't understand waht the control car is... But I'm looking forward to enter a few classes. I've also taken my TT cd off the shelf today, so I can also try a few bikes!!! :)

Yippee!!! I loved watching this series unfold and occasionally send in a lap time. I havent touched my ps2 in a while but this may make me set it up. Also a few months ago I built like 3 or 4 sprinter/corolla all with similar but different settings and this would be a great motivation to test them out.👍

As far as i'm concerd,i would like to continue the VTD series, too bad Ed is not here,he was a real director of it :(
Anyway,it would be nice to collect some people from to old series, and also new people, and introduce them to the rules and all the stuff,i hope there is going to be interests.
Cheers.

YAY, right now I am walking out the door to go on a trip to visit family for a week but when I get back Im going to stop by:tup:.

So, no interest then? This was a great series while it lasted before, it made a refreshing change from the usual types of series. There are quite a few different sorts of series now though, so perhaps there just isn't room for another?

i think we may have just enough to go again goose?

an idea i would wanna put forward is get rid of the S1 tyres as they are abit too grippy.my idea is for the budget class use N1s,modern uses S2 and uber class uses N3's like in real life :)

I'm in. :) I didn't get a chance with the others, but this looks fun.
