And suddenly, all Volkswagen employees that were involved with this car were murdered and the documents and research material were destroyed.

The culprit? Rich oil sheiks wanting more money for themselves.

I hope that VW can take the lessosn learned from this car and put them into their other road cars. it's a fantastic piece of engineering, it would be a shame if it went to waste.

Its nice to see VW going the other way and taking fuel efficiency to the extreme. It's not sexy, but it's practical.

For practically, as the XL1 is already being discussed here, it may be easier to continue the conversation in that thread.

seriously, I even searched for the XL1 :grumpy: Oh well, this thread can be closed then.

That's pretty impressive, isn't it? And it doesn't even look like a turd (which is, in my opinion, the most suprising thing about the XL1). Can anyone imagine the Golf VIII getting a hundred MPG?

Dose Jaguar XJR-9 wheel covers.

261 mpg is good, but getting that kind of mileage out of a large engine, or a powerful engine will still be tricky.

Would be much better suited in a Lupo or Polo.

OMG! :drool::drool:
I want one!

Man, that's a hell of a car. But, knowing VW, they'll doddle it around and then never do it. Unless they totally want to prove us wrong. Which would be great, but then of course, we'd have to face the fact that it'd probably never be sold in the US.

But hey, as a practical adaptation of a crazy-efficient "production car," this thing hits it out of the park. Make it happen, VW.

I really like that. Reminds me of a futuristic racing game car, like the Blue Falcon from F-Zero, or something from Top Gear 2 (SNES).

Best-looking car out of this year's Paris Motor Show for me so far, even better-looking than the Asterion.

In general, I'm not so much into robotic looks for a sports car, I'm more into organic lines that aren't too voluptuous. Nevertheless, the proportion of this thing just looks so right. It's just so pleasing to look at, somehow. Actually, its exterior styling kinda makes me think of the latest TT and the R35 GT-R, but without the staid plainness of the former and the roughness of the latter's edges. It also has a sci-fi feel without being too silly.

I wish it will have a faster 0-60mph time, though. A modern-day car that looks as terrific as that at least needs to reach sixty miles per hours in the low five-second range, I'd say, or the whole thing will kinda feel like "style over substance" to a high extent. I think even the Golf R goes to sixty faster than 5.7 seconds...

But, perhaps, while it lacks in acceleration, it will make do in good handling with its low weight. Maybe just like a Lotus Elise...well, maybe not as snappy as a Lotus Elise...

But, what am I saying...this is still a concept in the end... :(
I hope they make a production version for real.

I. Can't. Stop. Staring. And drooling.

I think this might just be my new favorite car. The stats are good and the car looks stunning. VW has really outdone itself with this car and I wish it will be green-lit for mass production. The rear will take some time to grow on me, but I love this car overall. :)

This is awesome news as it means the CEO's showed the middlefinger to Porsche.
Audi wanted to put the R4 into production years ago, only hindered by Porsche who opposed.

If this gets real, Audi will produce an R4 (or whatever they call it)

This with an I5, R5 in the back, visco 4*4.... need to stop otherwise I might faint
