VTEC Power Zone

The Honda Prelude SH came out in 1997 and started a new generation of Preludes. The main diffences between the this new generation and the generation before it was that the new preludes were about 3000 lbs as opposed to around 2750 lbs. The bodies were also different and the SH came with a spoiler stock. In my opinion the best prelude to get would be a 1996 Honda Prelude VTEC. Not only does it have a 200 hp engine (H22A1), it also weighs about 250 lbs less than the newer generation that also have 200 hp engines. However, the introduction of new SH preludes has its own benifits. SH stands for Super Handling. Honda developed a system that acts much like an LSD, but it was called ATTS or something, (i'm doing this off the top of my head so it may not be completely accurate). The two latest generations are very fast cars, so you won't go wrong with either one of them.

Thanks for the report there. :)

Nice job! Too bad I didn't research the Preludes that much. :guilty:

 Thanks
I think I might have to look into the 96' instead of the 97, then. In my opinion, I liked the way the newer preludes look. They might be heavier, but they do seem to look better. Thanks again for the information.

Hey also take a look with the 4 wheel steering version, if you want rarity in mind. :)

97 is longer. When they changed the body style from a 96 to a 97, they added almost a full cubic foot to the trunk space.

Yea, I'm not saying automatically jump to the previous generation prelude just because it has a better power to weight ration. There are probably some subjective advantages to having the newer generation, such as comfort, trunk space, and reliability. But it is true, that an extra 250 lbs will hurt your speed.

don't forget the ATTS and 4wheel steering the 5th Gen prelude Type SH came with ;)

the fact that it doesn't look like a dildo anymore and got rid of that hidious dashboard...is a bonus

What was it Jeremy Clarkson said on Top Gear while driving an S2000 ... 95 thousand vtec systems made over the past 15 years and not a single failure, not one single failure. I'm sure my numbers are off, except for the ZERO failures part. Solid Honda engineering.

Torrance, Calif. 06/28/2004 -- American Honda released the first images of its 2005 Accord V6 Hybrid, a gas-electric hybrid version of Honda's best-selling car, scheduled to go on-sale at Honda dealerships nationwide later this year. Utilizing a next-generation hybrid powertrain, the Accord V6 Hybrid will deliver power and performance above the current 240-horsepower Accord V6 with the fuel economy of a compact-class, four-cylinder Civic sedan.

"Putting hybrid technology into our most popular model is a further indication of Honda's commitment to hybrid technology and our confidence that consumers are ready for more hybrid models," said Tom Elliot, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The Accord hybrid delivers both increased performance and higher fuel economy. It takes hybrid technology into all new territory."

With class-leading performance and fuel efficiency provided by a highly advanced and super-efficient hybrid V6 powertrain, the Accord Hybrid will produce in excess of 240 horsepower with near-peak torque available across the engine's full operating range for exhilarating performance with superb acceleration, passing power and cruising comfort.

Honda's innovative new Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) technology further enhances the efficiency of the Accord Hybrid by deactivating three of the engine's six cylinders during cruising and deceleration with no impact to vehicle performance or passenger comfort.

Honda's advanced and super-efficient Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system utilizes a high-output electric motor/generator to provide for more efficient engine operation by capturing electrical energy during braking or deceleration and using that energy to help power the vehicle. In addition, the system features the ability to shut off the engine during vehicle stops for further efficiency gains. The resulting savings in fuel consumption, along with VCM cylinder deactivation, provides for fuel economy comparable to a compact-class Civic sedan powered by a four-cylinder engine.

The Accord Hybrid's exterior has a number of exclusive features including a unique front grille design, new taillight appearance and special hybrid badging, along with a rear trunk lid spoiler and exclusive alloy wheel design.

Honda introduced the Insight, America's first hybrid vehicle and still the fuel economy leader, in December 1999. Honda then took hybrid technology into the mainstream with the introduction of the Civic Hybrid in March 2002. Sales of the Insight and Civic Hybrid accounted for more than half of all U.S. hybrid sales in 2003, according to R.L. Polk vehicle registration data. Civic Hybrid set consecutive sales records in March, April and May with year-to-date sales up nearly 20 percent versus last year through the end of May.

I don't know why, but I'm one of those few people who like them (Insight). :dopey:

Middle Man
lol.. of course your one of those person's who like the insight..... HONDA PRIDE..... lol

Its not just that, I find the Insight quite interesting to the fact that to me its a REAL city car, not meant to drive it across the state or something.

All I have to say is: Honda need to come out with a Turbo car
2.2L Turbo would be nice pushing atleast 300HP Stock

Come on Dodge SRT 4 is getting a head.. and less expensive than Honda.. (and don't give me it's just a neon crap)

I like Honda and I own one..but damn...let's get fast car with out having to modify it..

My cousin is selling his Acura ( Honda ) Integra GSR. And he sold his OTHER Integra LS for the GSR. And what is he selling the GSR for? A god damn SRT-4. Why? It pushes a lot of horse power, and his buddy can do something to it for a decent amount of money, and a lot of horse power. Let me see if I can find out what he wants his friend to do. Then I'll post it.

" Ls Vtec GSR: the guy who built my motor made this intercooler and is making a kit to push over 400 wheels horsepower on this car.
Ls Vtec GSR: yeppers
Ls Vtec GSR: i know its a neon....but god damn this car is very capable of a lot
Ls Vtec GSR: not as good lookin as my car but you get my drift
Ls Vtec GSR: and for under $20,000
Ls Vtec GSR: plus $2500 for my buddies kit
Ls Vtec GSR: close to 400whp
Ls Vtec GSR: with a warranty
Ls Vtec GSR: 7 year 70,000 miles
Ls Vtec GSR: did i render you speechless? "

And in a second, I'm going to post the pictures of the kit.

And my cousin is no idiot. He's picking this car for a reason. Only reason I see that it's good is it's turbo and is pushing horses. Oh, and it's pretty cheap. But my cousin always pulls an ace out of his sleeve with any car. He works magic, he finds ways. The SRT-4 is fast stock, and with his buddy's kit, and his knowledge. He'll be able to modify that thing like a *****.

I've seen couple of cars like that with that same setup as you posted on that pic, those guys are a**holes, they always picking on my stupid Protege5 like they're going to race me or something.

->"Just wait of my Integra to be fixed, and I'll show you racing."

Lol. It happens to everyone. Getting picked on is what happens. I remember when I was driving with my cousin in his GSR. And a Camaro pulled up next to us. They kept looking over at us and laughing and stuff. And my cousin is a big guy, now. He's like 6'4 and weighs 350 lbs. Played football. Not only does he have a size advantage over the punks in the camaro, he's got a police baton in his car ready for some skull cracking. My cousin just looked over at them and laughed at them. My cousin revved his car, and the light changed to green. The camaro takes off, and gets pulled over by a cop that was a few lots down. It was hillarious. We just turned after we saw them, and flashed our lights on em'. I bet they were pissed.
