VTEC Properly Engaged?

I had a US 2000 version of the S2000. It was a sweet ride until I got broadsided.

My S2000 hit the VTEC at about 6200 and had a very distinctive sound and power increase. I guess GT5 does the power gain w/o the sound.

That's what I'm beginning to think.

Many videos that show the mythical "VTEC kick" are from people who floor the throttle pedal when they reach its threshold, making the torque and noise increase effects of the auxiliary cams more dramatic than they actually are.

Are you talking about GT5 videos or real life videos? I know the real life VTEC sound is achieved without mashing the throttle to try and imitate the sound.

I'm talking about real life videos of people with their Honda VTECs.
The engine sound does change once the second cams engage, but not as dramatically as often portrayed in many videos, where this effect is often purposedly exaggerated by the driver.

This is a video properly done (rolling start from low rpm at WOT) that doesn't show "kicks" or sudden changes in sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KSIUo--aQI

I think the last thing on PD's mind is changing the notes for honda engines so people can say "MY V-TEC JUST KICKED IN YO!!!"

Honda isnt the only manufacturer who make duel cam engines, Ford just came out with a new engine thats duel cam. (engine info link)

I think changing all the cars engine sounds including the Hondas should be on their minds though, they really need to be improved but that's a whole different topic.

Oh damn :ouch:. you're right, elises have toyota engines. I've been reading up a lot on people who do honda engine swaps; I must have jumbled things up.

If GT5 had simulated dynos,I'm willing to bet the graphs would certainly show the VTEC engagement, much like it would a WRX's increase at WOT, like the supra 2JZ at twin turbo WOT, like the EVO MIVEC at WOT, like the GNX supercharger kicking in at WOT, and the plethora of other cars that have a timing change due to FI or a solenoid or anything else that has a dramatic increase through the powerband. Just cause you can't hear it, doesn't mean it isn't there.
