Those currently waiting for a new Volkswagen, take note: up to 30,000 brand new VeeDubs awaiting customer delivery have been damaged by hail near the VW factory in Emden, Germany. Reports indicate that the hail was ping-pong ball sized, which is certainly large enough to leave a nasty mark. Unfortunately, the naked eye cannot be relied upon to spot each minute piece of damage, so special workers have been brought in from around Germany to help inspect the vehicles under special lighting. Volkswagen, of course, assures its customers that no car will leave the premises with any damage whatsoever.

The expected cost for the large scale repair work has been estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars, so the German automaker is particularly thankful that it carries insurance for this particular act of God, and therefore shouldn't need to pay for any damage to the vehicles left outside. Thanks for the tip everyone!
That's a whole lot of dents!

Well, got a taste of Midwestern weather, did they? Ouch...well, perhaps they'll be more aerodynamic now...(golf ball effect...)

(and I'm joking)

I'll have one for a reduced price. I mean it's not like I wouldn't manage to dent it anyway.

(golf ball effect...)

I once read an interview with I think, Adrian Newey, and they asked him why Formula 1 cars weren't dimpled like a Golf ball to make them more aerodynamic. He responded something along the lines that the airflow over flat surfaces (such as the nose cone) isn't as turbulent as that of a round object like a golf ball, but he did muse that the technique could be used on smaller items such as the wing mirrors.

Interesting news though :D I like the idea of a Golf being dimpled like a golf ball by golf ball-sized hailstones...

Well, that's what insurance is for I suppose. Its no worse than all of those new car lots that are underwater in Iowa...

lol they should have a special hail storm edition for a reduced price.. :D

Or the opposite. It says "up to 30,000 VeeDubs" were injured, which means there was 30,000 cars in the lot. Write off the ones that are completely trashed, pick out the undamaged ones and the remaining damaged ones (probably a couple thousand) can be released as Hail Storm edition for a premium. There are plenty of VW nerds who would jump at that.

Or is this the best way to make the Harlequin happen again?

(The VW-nerd in me prays that it will happen!)

My uncle does this sort of work around here. Hail = cash. Paintless dent removal isn't cheap.

Nah. Too easy to replicate. I'm working on my own version of one right now...

Wouldn't golf-ball dimples make cars more aerodynamic? Or does that only work on spheres?

They have computer fans which are golf ball patterned apparently to reduce noise and turbulance.. don't know if it really works though....

I give you Sharkoon Silent Eagle Case Fans....
