I have 85%.

Wrong : 6
In Germany you are allowed to pass slowly ( 10 km/h maximum )

Wrong : 10
Apparently we don't have such a sign ?

Wrong : 14
In Germany speed limit means speed limit. If you tell the cops : Oh well, all the others also drove too fast they laugh at you while writing the ticket.

*chuckle* when I checked out the "Michigan left" article, it had a link to the "Pittsburgh Left"...which should be a "Pennsylvania Left", as we ALL do it.

I notice we're in the Bottom Fifteen...I'da thought we'd be in the bottom FIVE, considering how much the rest of you mooks complain about PA roads :P (they're absolutely HORRIBLE condition this year, so take that as a warning for when you come in)

If I'm not mistaken that's the merging question...

It's unsafe to not match speed and try to get over here. Once you're on the freeway obviously you're expected to be doing the speed limit though.

90% here.

65%! Miami born and raised for sure.

100 feet for a turn signal? If i left mine on that long, people behind me would think i've left it on and assume i won't be making that turn. And fog? I've never driven through fog..

I got an 80% on the test. Sometimes what is a good idea doesn't agree with the law, and sometimes the law actually is a good idea even if it seems to go against other laws.

Such as the proper way to enter a highway: be traveling at or near the speed of traffic.

I clicked "at the posted speed limit for that highway", but that was wrong. Apparently you're supposed to merge in at 120 if that's the speed everyone is going. Soooo, merge at 120, but the speed limit is 65...yeah. I actually do merge well, but it seems the law has confused itself.

I also disagree with supposedly being able to pass cars on the right while on the highway. I think that should be frowned upon, and everyone should support passing on the left. Yeah, it's not as free, but it's much more organized.

There's only about a 10 point spread between the worst state and best state. It goes from ~70 to 80. Considering they only surveyed about 5000+ people, some of the variation may be explained by that. Either way, it doesn't seem like any state did too bad.

Most of the UK would probably be worse than every single bad driver from every state. I'm going to film myself driving around where I live soon so you can see the horror...

Also, I see your Michigan Turn and raise you the 'Magic Roundabout'

Been round it twice when visiting my friend, was brilliant fun!

There was a roundabout several miles away from me. I was considering going there for fun to see the chaos, but I forgot where it is.

Congrats. I think you just shortened my life by five minutes as I attempted to interpret that Gymkhana.

Speaking of roundabouts... they just put a ton up to the north of me in Carmel, which is full of well-do people who are mostly are... twits. When I am in Angola, its pretty cool because the roundabout has a nickname called "The Mound." However, when you have 5 roundabouts back to back and no mound on anyone of them, not cool. Still, I like roundabouts better than I do stoplights... its just like the Michigan Turn.... easy to do and follow. Do me a favor... Please follow the signs.... you twits. Jeez.

Fair enough, I agree with that for sure. However, I'll stop passing people on the right when they stop sitting in the left lane doing 5-10 under the speed limit.

Is going around that twice the equivalent of driving through a tunnel full of flaming spikes?

Oh and please tell me the address of that interesection; i really, really want to see how Google Maps interprets directions that cross through it. "Drive 40 miles north to avoid cluster**ck."

The parkling lot at my local community college will die if that parking lot ever turns like that. The white lines are all so clearly marked and people still park improperly. I see all these cars being driven on the wrong side of the lane, peering out like vultures looking for food even though they are really looking for someone to leave a parking spot. It is very frustrating at times to walk across to my classroom when these cars are following you thinking that you are going to your car to leave. The same thing also happens when leaving campus. For several times now, I got so sick of the ridiculous traffic in the school lot that I started parking 1 block away from the school. I would walk through lanes of car as more and more student stare at me in excitement of actually getting a space! Once I get to the end and walk off the lot, they all peer at each other in confusion of how to get out of the bundled traffic they have created by following me.

California....All it takes is one person cause some 2+ hour traffic jam! Even if the accident is off the street, people still stop to oohhhh ahhhhh the accident and thanks ALOT FOR CREATING a 2+ HOUR TRAFFIC JAM!

ayah....

I fold. I can sort of understand it, but... WHY?!?!?!

Anyway, I got a 95% on that driver's test. Suppose that means I'm a pretty good driver... in theory... muahahaha.

I have been studying this for the past day or so,I think it is finally coming together.
But of course, that is easier said than done, perhaps in real life if I was there,I would probably freak out.:dopey:

Ah I see. Seems like I didn't read the question properly. Then the answer makes more sense, allthough I have to say that it hardly works in Germany ( Autobahn ). I mean my STi is able to reach like a 160 km/h on that short distance, the average car isn't.

75%
in my defense i didnt have a clue about buses with flashing lights and passing on the right or diamond signs or a traffic light flashing red  that counts for 4 questions :p

How is Minnesota #8 when we have the worst roads in the country. Also MN is 21st in population and Wisconsin is 20th so they aren't the least populated states that are up top.

Try the Republic of NoDakistan. They'll tear your car apart. Missouri gets honorably mention in the bad roads dept.

Have you guys been to Michigan? Everything's pretty chewed up there And I've barely had any exposure to Detroit roads as of yet. :nervous:. Honorable mention goes to Seattle.

People seriously have issues with Michigan lefts? They make sense to me.

Oh and Michigan has the worst roads I've ever been on in this country or another, it's ridiculous to say the least.

Seriously guys, the "Michigan turn" isn't that hard to figure out...

It's not hard to figure out, but how do people avoid getting hit by (or hitting) the traffic they're merging with? Is there another traffic light there that's not shown on Wikipedia? It seems safer than standing in the middle of an intersection, and certainly better than jumping the light, but there's still no guarantee. New Jersey's jughandles are much better; plus, you don't go way past your turn, and it's right-hand-turns all the way. Although babying people like that may be part of the reason NJ is so low on the list....

If just a few places on the list makes that big a difference, I can't even imagine driving in New York.

It's hell. There are two categories that more and more people seem to be falling into: oblivious and slow (the daydreamers), and aggressive and pushy (the blitz). Both are susceptible to cell phone use; both consist of people of all ages, sex, vehicle, etc..

The daydreamers can be found doing 26 in a 30, 40 in a 50, and just barely the speed limit on a highway passing lane. They often slow down way before a turn or stoplight, often leaving you staring at a 'No Turn on Red' sign after they crawled through the right turn you wanted to follow them on just as the light turned. They are also too timid to move past tractor trailers, usually only making it half way, leaving you just behind them in the same dangerous situation. These people add frustration to everyone.

The blitz are usually everyone else. They jump lights, going left across you as you try to go straight through an intersection. They speed, then slow down, then speed, then slow down...ad nauseam...on highways. They make it impossible to pass because they think that they have to be ahead of you. They also deem it necessary to use the shoulder or adjacent turn-only lane to make it through the intersection ahead of you. These people add danger to everyone.

And if someone can tell me why so many people drive with their brights on 24/7, I'll stop my order for the rifle I was going to use to shoot out their headlights. I suppose I can understand when it's late at night on a country lane (although they're still an idiot), but it's proof of their total ignorance when it's sunny and 75F on suburban roads.

Quote:
NASCAR: bumper to bumper 200mph, 50 professionals
Boston: bumper to bumper 70mph, 50,000 amateurs

I thought that was supposed to be Los Angeles. I have to say that I've never gotten much over 12mph in Boston when it's bumper-to-bumper, but I can certainly attest to LA being like that.

One thing that I've noticed when talking to other people about bad drivers is that you never think that its YOU, and they never think that its THEM. ;)

There aren't always lights, but sometimes there are. It depends on how much traffic is going through that area on a daily basis if they need one or not. So, for example, most in the area just have the center divider with the turnarounds in. You wait for traffic to clear (being in the outside or inside lane of the turnaround), and go to your selected lane of traffic. All of them have stop signs posted in them. Although now, a lot are being narrowed to only one lane, making it so you must go to the right lane.

Or, the one they're installing in front of my house, for example, will have a light. A good idea, because of the high school/middle school traffic we have every morning. Although, I think I'm being forced to make a right and cut through the neighborhood now, which sucks... But, whatever.

It's probably because that person doesn't know what they're doing wrong. If they did, they'd fix it. So I guess it is good to drive with parents or somebody every now and then. That's how I learned that the biggest things I do wrong are force myself into gaps, take corners too fast, and simply let up on the gas when traffic in front puts their brakes on, instead of slamming on the brakes.

It's hell. There are two categories that more and more people seem to be falling into: oblivious and slow (the daydreamers), and aggressive and pushy (the blitz). Both are susceptible to cell phone use; both consist of people of all ages, sex, vehicle, etc..

It's kinda funny that all four drivers in our family fall into these two categories perfectly. Mom and the sister are daydreamers, and dad and I are always yelling at them to wake up and stop impeding traffic. Dad and I are the blitz, and mom and sis are always yelling at us to slow down in the corners and be less aggressive on the freeway. And the girls drive the Volvo all the time and the guys are always in the GTI.

And if someone can tell me why so many people drive with their brights on 24/7, I'll stop my order for the rifle I was going to use to shoot out their headlights. People do that at the big place to be seen around Seattle, Alki. It's the kind of place that's packed and traffic is going 15 mph, but some people feel the need to keep their brights on for this particular route. I'm looking for an explanation of what makes you so cool rolling in your riced out Civic blinding the oncoming traffic. I thought being obnoxious was only cool for guys at frat parties...

Are you allowed to take the Michigan left when the light for your U-turn is red? That's always something I've wondered.

But there are two major roads around Holland that use this. On Chicago drive, traffic is light enough that there really isn't much need for a light. You'll never have to wait long to make the turn there. US 31 has lights. And even then, the only issue comes from the waves of traffic that happen on a road with stoplights. So there really aren't many cars to worry about once the main wave has passed. Everything is pretty wide open in Michigan, so you're not trying to cram too many cars in too small a space like you probably would be in the metro areas of New York.

95%. Apparently undertaking is actually legal, not illegal and unenforced like I thought it was.

Not bad for a Canuck.

Florida @ #43

I'm not surprised at all. I'm lucky when I'm driving to not see someone do something purely idiotic in front of me.

Some, but not all. It seems like most let you make a left on red when traffic is clear, even when there isn't a sign that stipulates it as such. Only problem is that these turnarounds now seem to be situated at "driveways" for industrial parks and Meijer stores. So, not only are you merging with "regular" traffic, but also the douchebags in Dodge Caravans who pull out whenever they want whilst turning right.
