At Monaco its important to use 7th gear on the main straight, going up the hill, and through the tunnel. Changing down has to be lightening fast -faster than the game sounds can keep up with, so that makes it a bit sketchy.

Another thing you get a lot of: many times you need to hurl the car into the corner and then wait, off throttle, for it to come around to the exit ..you cant throttle the car around, everywhere. At the top of the hill after Ste. Devote at Monaco you go from 7th down to 5th, and then *wait* in 5th, basically, until just before the right hander down the hill. The last corner is the same thing ..you need throw the car in, and then wait, off throttle, for it to come around to you.

You can short shift the McLaren and do well (it sounds like short shifting) ..for sure you dont ever need to bounce off the limiter all the time.

Having ABS on or off doesnt really matter too much, but decent leaderboard times use traction control, obviously. Hey, if Massa could have traction control while all the other drivers were banned from using it he would. In this case we all can choose. Its always there to be turned off later at any time.

Cheats in time trial? I dont know yet. At Monaco I thought there was cheating at first, but now Im not too sure. Maybe some wall touches here and there. Not as bad as wall-bouncing in Prologue, but yeah, maybe some small touches. Its risky. My best after trying last night online for the first time was something like 22nd place. Getting close to the top ten shouldnt be a huge problem. Getting into the top 5 might be.

Sometimes the first lap of a session seems to be almost unnaturally easy to make a good time on. So look for that one too.

Have any dirt to share?

Well, I was practicing earlier at melbourne and realized that the fastest way through the opening chicane is to go wide at the first turn and go deep on the kurb for the second turn. When I say go wide I mean pretend the track is wider than it actually is and early apex the corner. Then put 2 wheels off track on the kurb and the other 2 to the right of the white line.

On second thought I think the subject is too detailed to be posted about.

Is it possible to go faster by describing it in words? I mean, I'm still half drenched in sweat from a session at monaco time trial, and even though I learned new things, I learned them while in the tornado of that moment ..not by virtue of calm contemplation :)

So my bad. It would be nice to know if cheating is 'out there' so people dont kill themselves trying to beat a bogus time. Anyway, monaco seems clean. The fastest laps seem to be the result of deep learning combined with hundreds and hundreds of failed attempts. Just like all time trials.

Say no to aids. They aren't necessary.

Because the game is catered for noobs, I've found no reason to setup my car manually. Quick tune is all you need.

Curb hop! Don't be afraid of the rumble strips in TT if you crash then just restart

There's a lot of places that you can get away with some borderline corner cutting. Melbourne was pretty slick for that and Montreal too. You just have to test it out to see how far you can push the corner without getting punished.

Au contraire, mon frère: My guts are telling me that assets can be beat. If you know the track better then someone with assets turned on and you can spend enough time on a particular track you can own the thing. You have to go into the zone and be totally possessed by the monster and then you can hold your head up.

The quick tune stuff is bogus, the phony quick tune thing will never gear the car for the way you drive on a particular track. Gearing for manual is everything.

Well as for car setup, I reckon 95% of players can't drive the car to it's limits. Understanding downforce takes a lot of time. Bleeding brake pressure as the downforce decreases but still braking into the apex without getting understeer is pretty damn difficult. On occasion in turn 3 at Melbourne I'll compression lock the rear tyres just to get it to turn in better. There is more time in perfecting your driving than in the car setup, so quick setup is all a very very large portion of players will need.

As far as driving aids go, I haven't used them yet so I don't know if it's faster or not but I'm a purist - there is no driving aids in the current F1, so why would any fan use them in game? Plus it must be incredibly boring just flooring the throttle out of every corner rather than fighting oversteer for everything but 6th and 7th gear corners. My two cents.
