Wanted : Voice chat in GT4 Online

There's nothing better than finishing a close race with somebody online and having a chat. On PC, you can type text backwards and forwards talking about 'how i took you on the outside of that corner' but 95% of PS2 users do not have the keyboard.

Similarly, during a race, you do not want to divert any bandwidth away from the actual comms coz that would be bad.

What I would like to see is GT4 use the headset for trash-talking before the race, turn it off during the race then once it is over enable it again so you can have a laugh and get to know your opponents. Its the best way to build up up the community side of GT4 and would add a vital extra dimention to the race.

Probably just a pipe dream, but if there is no sacrifice to online performance, I can't see why it can't be done. What do you think ?
 
I dont think I would want to talk to anyone I play against online cause it would just be pathetic or some 11 year old yelling curse words at me while trying to hit me on every turn. Personally I'm looking forward to the single player career and online as a useless extra...
 
Its possible, PD didn´t share much information about the online mode of GT4 so far, they said that there will be no voice chatting IN the race, but maybe we can voice chat before and after the races. I hope so.

....so i could talk with my friends without running to the phone........u can direct talk about important points of a race(for example:crash in last lap cuz player 2 ´didn´t want player1 to win....)....and that would be good......

...i hope it IS in GT4 but seems a little little bit unrealistic:(..........
 
Voice chat is in. Just not in races. This was confirmed a long time ago...

that's how it is with Destruction Derby Arenas online.. but I think it sucks :yuck:

not all the people who play online are there for serious competition, some just want to have fun..

I wouldn't mind doing a couple of laps in Nurburgring online with a few friends while driving the Mini Cooper.. It's going to take a while for me to complete a lap.. and it would be good to talk or listening to other people chatting away..

also there will be people online in teams/clans... who would want to communicate to each other while racing..

Then you've got to think about the amature movie makers, who would like to make their own GT4 Online video.. and they will need to communicate with their amature GT4 online movie stars..

If you don't want to listen to people while your driving, I'm sure they will let you mute other racers..

...PD talk not much about it´s baby!!!...so we only know about 600 cars,50 tracks (and 100 with the rearwards versions--->just think of NÜRB II !!!),photo mode,more realistic physics,best graphic-->up to date,and online mode but NOTHING more!!!

....so we don´t know how online will be,how it is managed,if u can chat with each other after the races and and and............
 
I wouldn't mind chat in-race. It would be a good feature, because say you were lapping someone and you went,"Do you mind moving over mate. This guy is hot on my ass". It would clear up anyone complaining about some back marker costing them the race.

It would be good to a certain extent but I think that too much chat during the race would cause people to get worked up and more angry.......eventhough it would make you more competitive it may turn ugly........bad language and runing people of the track would occur.......In real racing the drivers of different teams cannot talk to one another......so why in GT4......keep your anger and competitiveness to yourself and channel it into some brilliant drving!......Show them who's boss!
 
...but this is a game and not the reality!!!....and when somebody doesn´t want to hear the voices of other players In a race he simply should switch his headset off!!!!

...chatting In a race makes FUN fun FuN!!!!!!...so it should be in GT4 and those who don´t want "brabbling in a race and only want to concentrate on their OWN performance shouldn´t buy a headset ANYWAY!!!

Yeah I would want chat, but there will be times where I'm like

"PRAISE THE LORD the PS2 USB headset/mic comes with a mute button."

For the times some arrogant idiot won't shut up :) , that would be the moment I just turn my headset off, and proceed to harass him with my Levin :trouble:
 
Lucky for you. My PS2 headset doesn't have a mute button. I bought the headset that came with SOCOM when it first came out, so I guess thats the newer one...

The mute button is there to mute yourself not others..
so your not missing out on much. :)

the mute button is only useful on games that have constant voice streaming.. such as SSX3.. as there is nothing worse than listening to someone breath heavy on the mic while your trying to play a game.. :lol:

In socom 2, to mute someone.. while your in game you tap circle scroll down to team mates >> select players name >> mute > on/off

chatting throughout the race is fun.......most of the time, when you're in with a bunch of kids, meh, time for a new room. Atleast i know that's how it is on PGR2....

whatts with u and your levin if the other huy had a gtr you would be 100 miles back.

anyway you need voice chat in game because you talk about things that just happend rite then. if you werre to have chat in the lobby it woulent be as good. with chat you can make new freinds easyer than just bieng silent. and if your in a team race you can talk to your team member on tactics to win!!!. if you didnt have a headset it takes the human element out of the game and it will be just like playing really realistic AI.

Well, if you're one of those people who has fun by NOT being competitive this maybe the wrong game for you i'm afraid (there's always NFSU!), voice chat while racing shouln't be a big deal, it wouln't kill me if it had it or viceversa.
It's been confirmed for a long time that it won't support it while racing, the main reason being that the PS2 would drop frames below 60, so in orther to get it right they'd have to drop the framerate to 30 FPS.. thanks, but no thanks.

honestly though, i understand that a lot of people will just be newbies having fun at a game instead of worriyng about learning to drive on a track, but those will come and go, only the competitive people will play GT4 looooong after it's released, and for those people the lack of chat while you race won't be such a big deal.. i can't wait for the day this game's released, i want to see for myself if this time the game will come close to delivering what it has promised with it's name since GT1.

i disagree, it doesn't take the human element from the game at all, no matter how "realistic" the AI gets, it would be a "different person", meaning, you come to expect reactions from people, and all people will have different driving styles... so, basicly, the AI would just be different personalities.. wich would be boring compared to real people. real people crack under pressure, have driving habits, and sometimes make the same mistakes over and over again.
it's the combination of those elements that make up an individual, you can't get that with AI, and even if you could get it, it wouln't be the same, because again, different people, different styles.
 
I wouldn't like it during the race, it might be very distracting to have a person talking while concentrating on racing.

I take it you haven't played NFSU online on PS2 :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:
you can only use the control pad to type while in the lobby.. after each race you get kicked out of the lobby you were in,.. the handling with the DFP is bloody awful. :crazy: plus the lag is very bad even when racing locals.. :scared:
oh.. and I don't like NFSU.. I prefer NFSHP2 :)

I do like playing online gaming for it's competitive edge.. but some of you people sound like your going to be too concerned with your precious rank than having fun.

Voice chat may not be necessary, during gameplay but it does make online gaming more enjoyable.. :)

If some people don't like someone talking in there ear while racing.. they can always remove the head set off their head or maybe uplug their USB headset and it would solve their problems. 💡

I don't want to chat to most people online. I don't own a headset and I'll try and find a way to mute the output.

In real racing you only talk to your mechanic on the wall. Other than that, it's just you, alone. I like that. Other people are fun cause they're unpredictable, but what they have to say generally isn't.
 
Remove the headset while racing if someone annoys you, duh! :dunce:
I'm sure the problems with on line gaming will be addressed by PD, so I'm sure something can be done to get rid of the a-hole racers.

Ok......so you couldn't turn the volume down? I haven't purchased a headset for the PS2 yet so forgive me if i'm wrong, but I know on the xbox headset you ahve the option of turning the voice on and off with a button and turning the earpiece volume up or down. So if you didn't want to listen to them, just turn it off. But in all honesty, voice chat during the game adds a whole nother element too it. It makes it that much more exciting.

so it depends what sort of USB headset you have. :)

also 'some' people don't seem to realise how much voice in game can make the experience a whole lot better.. most of the people I verse online are over 20 y/o.. so even if there is trash tall, it can be quiet funny :D

A head set would only be good to use when you're racing yor friends I reckon. It would just be a waste of money for me because I wouldn't talk.

Exactly. You don't realize how much fun it is till you've tried. Now I will say when the room is filled with chinese ppl speaking a language i can't understand or a bunch of kids talking ****, then i can understand not wanting sound, but i'm gonna tell you right now, GT4's audience is slightly older then your NFS & PGR group so you shouldn't run into this problem too often.
 
Man it would f'n own to be able to voice chat while racing. I mean i would be making fart sounds,gangsta rap and my own engine sounds trying distract my opponent and make them lose their concentration.
 
why is this debate even going on? it's been confirmed, no voice chat while racing due to hardware limitations, they _COULD_ implement it at the cost of framerate, they won't do it because of that, end of story. you can still chat pre-race according to them.
voice chat is defenetly good for team based games such as tactical FPS, etc.
but in racing it's really not that big a deal if you can talk or not, it would be a nice option for those that want it, but it's just not going to happen ^_^.
