Capital letters at the start of sentences are expected in any language though, are they not?

The post you got the warning for had 3 sentences, none of which started with a capital.

WHat do i to do?
Work dilligently on improving your english.

It was only a warning to work on improving your posting skills. I have seen the warning issued, and it was only a warning, there no infraction was issued. In your case, as long as you show improvement and try to improve, you'll become a good member at GTPlanet.

I got a warning from mod. It's completely NO reason to warning me. I have a bad english it isn't my 2nd language. i NEVER use "u" "Wut up" like that i hate it.. I dont see any in my post? If i see it then i would understanding. so this mod kid pissing me off. WHat do i to do? talk to Jordan?

Here's the nub. Your posts aren't bad. They just fall below a standard you're asked to maintain and the Warning should serve to remind you of that. Here's the standard to which you agreed:

AUP
No slang words that promote laziness, ie; “r”, “u”, “plz”, etc. will be tolerated. Decent grammar is expected, including proper usage of capital letters. Repeated violations will be grounds for suspension and/or permanent removal from the forums. All messages must be posted in English.

You obviously can use capital letters because sometimes you do. So when you don't you're choosing not to do so. Take your post above. Here is how it should look:

So... it wasn't for "NO reason". It wasn't a "kid pissing [you] off" (this particular Mod is 38 years old).

The AUP is your friend and your guide. The AUP is linked at the bottom of every page on this site.

that isn't gonna happens.. I am deaf and unable to hear any words. You gotta be kidding me? i have been member on here for 4 yrs with no warning yet til today.

Sigh one of mod is completely retarded.

Sigh one of mod is completely retarded.

And you can stow that attitude right now. You've certainly been here long enough to know that's unacceptable.

It was a polite reminder that sometimes you aren't using capital letters when you ought despite clearly having the ability to do it. Overreacting won't help you out.

At least it was just a warning. Though throughout the years, some members do improve in their grammar and some not. ( especially mine....a quick tip, before hitting that post button or quick post reply. Quickly reread your message. :tups: )

How, precisely, does being deaf have any bearing whatsoever on written language?

Was wondering the same myself. I'd think one would appreciate being as proper as possible with written word if it was their only way to communicate.

Don't Fret, Jinx. I'm on the precipice of bannination based on infraction points (compared to your well-meant warning) and, look, I'm one of GTPlanet's most outstanding, awesome, cherished members.

...

Anyway, just shape up-- it's not that difficult-- so that everyone can have a good time.

This thread just reminded me that I'm not doing so bad. I usually don't really check all the little details on my posts but for some reason they always turn out proper. This thread made me happy, so thank you! :D

EDIT: Omnis, your avatar cracks me up

Why do people have to bring up their handicap (and advertise it), especially when it has no bearing on the topic at hand?

I have never been deaf, so I will not assume that one should have no problem holding down the shift key prior to typing with their fingers.

**** you for calling me handicap. I am deaf in reallife. you can go to youtube.com/mrendemic that approves i use main language.

Don't ever call deaf handicap and a lot of us are a very normal living and problems is english and Sign language is HUGE difference,

I see many GTP Members being an ass lately now. forget GTP. not in my worth time. Last post and Goodbye.

Pro-tip: Don't bring up a disability as an excuse and then get defense when someone calls it a handicap. Under almost every definition I can think of, you'd qualify due to being deaf.

If you ever look at this thread again, anyhow.

Err... deafness is a handicap. It's classified as such by every medical community and government of which I'm aware.

and problems is english and Sign language is HUGE difference,

That difference doesn't extend to "Capital letters at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns".

All because a Moderator reminded you of rules you'd already agreed to, for which he gave you no penalty at all.

One who would not hesitate to do so to any member that ignored the AUP, and would also move it up to an infraction should a member carry on ignoring the AUP.

That however will not affect Jinx as he is leaving (and not in any way looking at another thread rather than doing what he said).

(I do like being called a 'kid mod' however - now that is funny)

There's something funny about this thread. I don't mind at all for litle writing mistakes ...

(but then again a) it's not my job, b) I don't even speak/write English that well and c) I surely am no mod and don't have to care about setting and upholding standards in a community)

... but I do mind - a lot, sometimes I get offended - about attitudes. And I find Jinx's attitude in this thread much, much worse than his spelling/writing mistakes.

Gtplanet is, all things considered, a very friendly place to be in (as much as we can "be in" a online community), I don't think, however, I would stick around with people calling me "completely retarded"

Believe me, we get called much, much worse than that.

The part I find funny here is that Jinx is moaning about the way he has been treated, yet if I wanted to I can find enough AUP issues in this thread and his PMs to ban him on the spot.

I have Meniere's disease in my left ear, which has given me almost full hearing loss in that ear, and that has been termed as a handicap (not by me).

And handicap is a disability. A disability is defined as:

Disability is defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as "a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities."

It may not not be "PC" in today's age of politically correctness, but it's the facts. Sorry if I offended you in anyway, but you mentioned your deafness, looking for preferential treatment, not us.

There is no need for name calling.

He just got a warning. I'd be more than glad to take a warning over any of the infractions I've gotten over the years. If he's moaning about his tiny little warning, which is just that, a warning, I'd hate to see what would happen if he got an infraction.

(Though this does bring up an interesting point, in my first 500 or so posts, I didn't even bother using correct punctuation, let alone capital letters, yet I didn't get an infraction until I did something absolutely, positively dim-witted.)

I think to describe somebody as handicapped in 2009 is often seen as offensive to the person described, at least where I come from anyway.

I think the politically correct way to describe an individual with a handicap is to say that they have a disability.

The word Handicap from my experience while growing up has always been used in a detrimental way so this might explain why chappie is getting all flustered.

He didn't say he was handicapped. He said he had a handicap. And I come from the same place as you.

Perhaps the chap is confused then:idea:

According to your profile we do not come from the same place - approx 150 miles apart we are, and although not a million miles away I would say far enough for there to be differences. Anyway I should know I have lived there for a period of my life.:)

Well that was a fun read . I added that guy on PSN about 2 weeks ago...hmm. I really dont see why he needs to kick up a fuss and attract everyones attention to himslef via a thread. Why not PM the 'Kid Moderator' and ask him. All he has done now is reading a post wrong, taking offense and leaving GTP, silly.

He did, calling me an idiot and ranting about how 'pissed off' he was and how he was going to Jordan about it.

I politely replied, explain why the warning was given, that its was quite normal and agreeing that if he has an issue he is free to contact Jordan regarding it.

Seems that was not good enough and so this thread was born.

No one said you weren't "normal". Being deaf puts you at a disadvantage over someone who is not. That is the definition of a handicap. It does not mean you will not succeed in life or are not a good person. It means some things are harder for you, no more, no less.

But really, I have known a friend who is deaf from birth. He grew up using sign and written language. His written language skills are indistinguishable from a non-deaf person. I don't see how one affects the other. But if it does, please explain so we understand, instead of throwing a tantrum.

And by the way, I'm sure there are a lot of real "retards" out there who would wonder why you were so willing to insult them since you were so easily offended by being called "handicapped" yourself. Maybe you could explain that, too.

I am back and finally turned in a good mood. I was completely dummy earlier. Don't forgiven me for all the words i said earlier. It was all my fault. Here's my apology for an immature act of rudeness I am sorry. I took all of your words and taken point.
