I drive a 1992 Ford Tarus Station Wagon and have a minor problem. Every couple of months, the bulb blows out from water getting inside the head light housing itself. Me and my father both took it out of the car and checked the for cracks around it and found nothing. We even went as far as filling it with water as seeing if water leaks out. But after trying that, still nothing. I have the theory that from the condonsation that is being created from sitting in the sunlight, it is causig the bulb to blow out. Is that possible or Am I wrong? Help me out here and maybe give me a fix.

You are 100% correct. If you want to eliminate this problem. Drill a very tiny hole in the bottom of the head light housing that holds your bulb. Its only plastic so it will be very easy to drill. Its basically the same thing thats in houses that have double pane glass. If you look at your house windows you will see small holes in the bottom where the glass sets. Same with some commercial buildings. Thats to let moisture and condensation out. 👍

Ah, I have this same problem on My SC300.

Usually, headlights are sealed units. There should be a couple little pieces of metalthat hold the rubber seal against the glass and the housing. Check how many tabs the light that isn't having the problem has. If there's a discrepency between the number of tabs, then you're mising one and the seal's been compromised.

The best option would be getting a new sealed unit. Water builds up inside, and after a while it will cause mildew and block some of your headlight's ligting potential.

Wait.. Check the seal on the back where you screw the light in. THere should be a hole with a couple notches, and you should be able to unscrew the plate this hole is in. There should be an O-ring right behind the plate that forms a seal with the bulb. See if the O-ring is brittle or broken, it might be what's causing the problem.

Don't touch the glass part of the bulb. after a short while the heat causes the oil from your fingers to explode.

Hope that helps some. :)

Thanks guys I always had that feeling that I was right about the headlight. Hopefully over the weekend, we'll drill that hole in the headlight and hope that it will fix the problem. I'll also check the O right too.

mabey someone ought to pin this, or create a repair section. I've had or seen too many cases of this...markers included
