Webber, where should he go?

Being an Australian, I am a keen supporter of Mark Webber, who currently drives an under-performing, unreliable Jaguar.

Of course, he will definitely not be driving for Jaguar in 2005, but he does have a big decision to make as to where he will drive. Three teams are interested in signing him- Williams, Renault and recently, Toyota.

He will most likely go to williams i believe cos I just heard that he turned down toyota (even though they were offering him twice as much money as williams).

What do u guys think of Webber and where he should go in 2005?
 
I'm right behind him going to Williams, although I'm a Renault supporter and it would be great to see him there. Renault would be great, but it seems unlikely to me. I think it's almost definately Williams, and I wouldn't mind seeing him there. Anywhere but Jaguar!!! (and Minardi...and Jordan...and Sauber....you get the picture!)
 
Williams or Renault, it's a hard call. From what I hear Trulli's stunning mistake at Magny-Cours has thrown a spanner in the works - Flavio Briatore suddenly thinks a lot less of Jarno than Jarno does.

There was an interesting article on Mark in the Times yesterday - it was a bit of a look into his life, and the writer mused that most drivers return to their families and luxury apartments in Monaco or somewhere equally prestigious, whilst Mark returns to a humble cottage a stone's throw from the Jaguar factory, he lives with his manager/partner Ann, and spends most of his time directly working with the team or engaging in activities like soccer games with them to boost morale. He almost sounds like he's a generation or two too old for Formula 1 today and belongs back in the 60's.

With Williams, I see a chance for Mark to play a critical role in building a team just like Michael has done, and that could mean big time success, which I'd love to see - I'm going to need someone new to barrack for in a few years.
 
Well it's heavilly rumoured that Webber is going to Williams, and I am n full support of him going there. I'm interested to see what he can do with a good car because we all know he can be fast for what he's got to work with. Anyway wherever he goes good luck to him:tup:
 
Takuma Sato is another guy who lives near his own factory... and 10 minutes from me actually.
 
We don't hear much of Taku when he's not making 'daring' overtakes - I guess that narrows down where Dudley and his Pikachu are.

Now that's what I like to see. Someone who uses their head. He knows that Toyota is the Japanese version of Jaguar. They just don't seem to have it in them. It also shows he wants to drive, for the fun of driving a F1 car. Not as much for the money.
 
Yes, Mark is certainly good enough to step up to the next level after the UK gran Prix last night. He put in a solid effort to pick up a point in 8th and it's almost a mathematical certainty now that he will go to williams after such a gritty performance.

He was in a tight battle throughout most of the race with two other runners, but managed to hold them off to clinch the final championship point, a well earnt one after some recent dissapointments (9th and DNF when in 6th).

The fact that he qualified 10th on a heavy tank is also indicative of the class of Mark.

I'm predicting big thinks for Webber, just as Michael did when Webber finished 5th in his first ever gran Prix in Australia a few years back. Infact Schumacher even thinks he could be the next world champion!

But one thing is for sure, he ain't gonna get anywhere in a bomb like Jaguar!

I don't know how true that is - I don't think it's a question of fun of driving a F1 car as much as it is a desire to be successful. However, that's fun in itself.

I wouldn't say that, if anything, Jarno Trulli's place looks less and less assured as the season goes on. He DNFd on the line at Canada, then had a great run from 20th to 4th at the USGP, then there was the disastrous French incident, and now another DNF (again mechanical but it doesn't help his cause). He's just inconsistent all over the place - not that Alonso and his engines and qualifying performances is doing much better.
 
Well Williams have two seats to play with and I'm sure one of them's going to fitted for Mark. He's dedicated to his cause and for the effort he puts in I hope he's succesfull. AND SOON!
 
It would be good to see him in a competitive car whether it be Williams or Renault. From this stage of the season onwards, it's not really in Marks best interest to finish in the points too often as the only way he can leave Jaguar at the end of the season is if Jaguar finish outside the top six constructors. Also, since Flavio Briatore is Marks manager, Renault have first dibs on Marks services next year if Jaguar do finish outside the top six, which seems a certainty with seven races left.
 
I'm guessing Williams too... I fully expect 2 seats open there with Montoya and Ralf already gone and Gene stinking up the joint. Could be a good fit... they have the technology, resources, and solid car to start with... get a talented a relatively young driver and then build the team around him... much like Michael was the right fit for Ferrari's resurgance.

I thought after Canada it didn't matter what he did. I thought the performance clause was only untill canada...can someone clarify this.
 
Half way point of the season is what I heard, meaning after Indianapolis - so it should be in effect.

Budapest, which is now two rounds away, as Mark revealed in a recent interview with AA editor Mark Fogarty. He then went on to say that the finer details of his escape clause have not been revealed, so the bit about Jaguar finishing in the top six to keep Webber is pure speculation on the part of the journalists. However, Webber can opt to stay with Jaguar.
 
Somehow I doubt he would.

I would also like to see him go to williams, it will give him a better chance at getting higher in the championship, or even winning.
 
Yeah, I doubt he will win for a while but with a good car I think he has a very good chance at a top 3.
 
He should go to williams. i think he and montoya would make a great team

Has it been decided who's taking the other seat or are we just focusing on whether Webber will be there? I think Webber will almost deffinatly be there, I hope someone like Button ends up in the other Williams car.

Button would be silly to leave BAR. With much improved performances this year and Honda looking like they're finally serious, they should continue to improve next year.

My tip is if they go fresh blood, it'll be Davidson (forget about Pizzonia, he won't perform), or if they go established, it'll be either Fisichella or Heidfeld - although I've been hearing that that's contingent on Williams securing an immediate release. In that case, Fisichella would be most likely, as Eddie could use the money. Wouldn't mind seeing Giancarlo finally get a gig in a top team.
 
I'd love to see it personally, 👍 @ Giancarlo @ Williams. Davidson is certainly impressive, and Button and BAR are building a relationship, team and performance that may just be like Ferrari in a few years - no point unsettling something where everyone is so content.
 
I didn't say it would be likely, but it would be good (for Williams). Fisi would be good to see at Williams.

The reports in the Australian press are as follows:
- the Webber deal with Williams has been finalised and may be announced at the German grand prix
- the favourite for the seocnd seat at Willaims is now Nick Heidfeld. The irony, if he gets the seat, is that both he and Webber are products of the Mercedes-Benz development program, and will be driving for BMW
- Briatore has run out of patience with Trulli, and Fisichella is likely to end up in the seat. I guess the curious thing here is the wording of Fisichella's contract with Sauber. He has an escape clause to go to a top team, but no-one's sure if it stipulates actual teams or simply something like 'the top 3 teams from 2003' or similar.

Fisi in a Renault - very interesting.

I was under the impression Webber himself didn't know where he was going in 2005, but perhaps he's already learning the secrets of silence that Frank Williams specialises in.

They've been in pretty close negotiation for a while - I think Webber's main confusion was whether it'd be a Renault or a Williams. There's a bit of friction between Alonso and Webber, so that may have contributed.

I think I'd heard that Trulli had an offer from Toyota - which he might want to take quick smart.

Will be good to see Fisichella in a Renault - make or break year for him, that's for sure.

Very interesting news there, Nick in a BMW, I wouldn't have guessed but I won't complain if it turns out to be.

Fisi in a Renault, this will be VERY good to see. He's putting in nice consistant results and he's also doing some good racing when needed i.e. making 14 positions:tup:

What's with this new red and signed format? Horrible on the eyes. We know you're Blake, it says so rather boldly ;)

Alonso and Webber have had some... interesting moments that probably don't help their relationship. Some teams work great with animosity amongst drivers though.
