Webber, where should he go?

Hmm I definatly think Webber is going to Williams unfortunatly for me, teh Jag fan I am, good to see him in a half decent car though. Although having said that, both William's haven't looked particularly good all season, apart from Canada. I mean christ, both the Jags were on the tales of both Williams and gave them a run for their money in France, and Webber was only about 10 seconds down the road from Monty in Britain.

Also I heard somewhere that Webbers contract clause states that he can only get out of Jaguar if they don't finish in the top 5 by Hungary, but if they don't the only team he'd be allowed to move to IS Renault. As I said it's like everything else on here...speculation. Though I'd imagine Frank would definatly want Webber in his team and would probably pay to break that contract if it were true, with Jaguar.
 
Uh, they can't mathematically reach 5th, best they could do is 6th, and they need 14 unanswered points to Sauber to do that.

They won't beat Sauber to 6th thats for sure, and it's looking unlikely they'll even beat Jordan :guilty: :grumpy: . Though as I said as I heard Martin Brundle say they might think he's only allowed to go to Renault if they don't finish 6 or higher.

Flavio Briatore runs the Renault team and he is also Webbers manager along with other drivers including the current Renault drivers. So Renault should have first say on where Webber goes, but it appears Flavio has let Webber decide which team he would prefer to drive for and it appears he has decided to go to Williams as an announcement is expected after the German GP, as previously mentioned.
 
I really hope it gets announced, and I hope it's announced that he IS going to Williams. Anyway, we'll soon see:D
 
I think it's pretty funny now, that Jaguar are requently challenging the Williams in the recent GP's now. At France they were on the pace, Britain Webber beat one of them, with Klien just behine the other, and in Germany Webber was challenging Monty early on and beat Pizzonia.
 
I think it's sorta sad, I hope whatever they produce for a FW27 is a lot better.
 
Yes, after last season I had high expectations from Williams. I really dissapointed me. I suppose they're probably putting a bit of effort into getting the plans down for next years car if not testing it.

The reports in the Australian press are as follows:
- the Webber deal with Williams has been finalised and may be announced at the German grand prix
- the favourite for the seocnd seat at Willaims is now Nick Heidfeld. The irony, if he gets the seat, is that both he and Webber are products of the Mercedes-Benz development program, and will be driving for BMW
- Briatore has run out of patience with Trulli, and Fisichella is likely to end up in the seat. I guess the curious thing here is the wording of Fisichella's contract with Sauber. He has an escape clause to go to a top team, but no-one's sure if it stipulates actual teams or simply something like 'the top 3 teams from 2003' or similar.

i think that webber would be crazy not to choose williams. williams has a winning history, they are always up or near the front. they are a storng and established team with a winning culture. renault is still a newish team.

Trulli has now stated that he will be NOT in a renault next year.......followed the dollar bills to toyota i think. Which stinks because i want to see Da Matta in f1 still

my preferred driver lineups
williams - Webber and heidfeld (he was unlucky not to get the mclaren seat when mika hakkinen departed)
renault - Alonso and Fisichella, now there is a great driver lineup.
 
Renault isn't exactly that new, Renault itself raced back in the 80s, and Benetton raced from 1985 onwards until being turned into Renault in 2002.
 
The plan is that Webber says he's going to Renault, and Fisichella to Williams, and then they "trade". Of course, it's all a bit of a farce, and I don't think you'll see deals restricting the driver's future movements being done again. Interestingly, today I heard that Briatore said that if Williams tried to sign Fisichella, he would withhold Webber from them.

I find it odd that Briatore should be fighting so strongly for a driver who only two years ago he treated pretty shabbily.

I also think that Williams would be making a mistake if they hired Heidfeld. Instead, I think they should snap up Davidson.

i think this is great. Im totally stoked for webber, an aussie with a gp winning chance and fisichella in a competitive drive. now just get Heidfeld into the other williams and it will all be set :lol:

I'll be amazed if Jag keep on Klien. Although he has had some alright races, although he just can't get any points. I think he's been a bit unlucky to a certain degree.
But yea who do you now think will fill Jaguar and Sauber. I think Coulthards best bet will be Jaguar and it'd be nice to see Davidson to go to Jaguar as well. But if Williams have any sense they'd hire him.
 
I still remember 'close friends' of DC saying he was going to retire after 2004. I think he'd do better to do that than go to Jaguar or something. Jaguar need to hire someone constructive and proactive who's going to be there for quite a while, DC isn't going to hang around that much longer.

Congratulations to Webber, he deserves it, and I may just have someone to barrack for when Schumacher retires now.
 
Webber does deserve a good team, hopefully Williams will have what it takes to let him be competitive next year.

I think DC will retire, it's probably his best bet.
 
Giancarlo Fisichella has been confirmed as Renault's second driver for 2005.

Fisichella in renault will be very interesting, that will test him to see how good he is
