Week 13: Correcting An Error

I think the R390 is the best choice, but maybe there´s one other better around there, that we just need to lower the hp.

The R390 reacts pretty well tho, don´t have complains about it.

A couple of suggestions for picking a car:

Some roadcars have downforce by default (I imagine the R390 has a fair bit). A car with downforce will always beat an equally tuned car without. The first place I'd start looking is for a car that meets the requirements, and has lots of downforce (AFAIK, the only way to see downforce is to look at one in GT Mode :yuck: ) This is the reason that a skyline or supra will never win a race like this ... no downforce.

Second important thing this week is how well the transmission matches the track. I haven't had a go yet, but picking a high-hp car and lowering the power will most likely leave you with gears that are too tall, or picking a lower-hp car and boosting it a lot will likely leave you with gears that are too short. Either way, you won't be able to properly use the power that you've got.

I'm off to the Car Quick Reference :mischievous:

EDIT:

To add to what Kent said, for a car to meet the exact requirements, it has to be:
- less than 500hp
- more than 335hp
- less than 1390kg
- more than 1140kg

EDIT: Would someone who's bought the R390 mind posting what it's default downforce is?

ballstothewall
I have found the Nissan R390 GT1 Road car

EXACTLY 1250Kg and 400 Bhp
sports softs

Handles great,looks great, is mid-rear!

The game says that it is a normal car,it has no max-speed setting, it is not a race car.
Hope it qualifies?

Damn gonna have to drop a mil on this thing...just gonna have to set up the B driver on another endurance race with the Pesca:D. Checked it out and the default downforce is 40 front/55 rear.

Any Street Car at 400hp or less & 1250kg or more

Am I missing something?

OK so you're saying that it must meet these requirements "off the lot" in order to change the settings to meet the requirements? Sorry I'm having a blonde day....Wait a minute...I am blonde :ouch: Thanks Luxy. :dunce:

EDIT: @jump_putt, the car needs to be within the specs I mentioned (in the car selection screen) in order for it to be quicktuned to reach 400hp/1250kg. If it's outside the specs I mentioned it will be either ineligible, down on power, or too heavy after you quicktune it :P

Here's a list of cars that vaguely meet the requirements (based on Famine's gt4cars.xls):

Like Kent said, nothing remotely close to the R390 GT1 Road Car :(

Another run, shaved 0.6 from my past time. I passed really really near the wall twice but i checked in photodrive and there was space beneath and no speed loses. :D

T1 - 0'29.437
T2 - 1'04.871
T3 - 1'xx.???

I see more 0.4.

I for one, am going to resist the urge to enter an R390 road car. What's the point, of having quite a large car selection, if everyone is just going to have an R390. I did about an hour of testing then, and got about 6 cars within 2 seconds of each other. And there are so much other fun cars out there....

Just a note, I've found a car that's doing aT1 0:31; T2 1:09, and isn't on that list Luxy just put up.... 💡 .....It's code name from here on is "CASIO'S SPECIAL CAR OF DOOM!"

T1 - :30.451
T2 - 1:06.994

Hoping veil stops his times there.....not that I'll catch up THAT much....lol.

perhaps my teammate here has a point, but the restrictions said no RACE cars, so perhaps TECHNICALLY its allowed? I dunno I didn't make the rules for this one! BTW how is the DTM for ya, I found it pretty easy to do 20 laps, in my sleep, I just need to concentrate on pushing the limit!

1'04.??? 👍

Fast like crazy.

I still haven't spent time with any one car more than another.
Testing Testing Testing. :sly:

I don't even plan on participating in the race.
However, I've enjoyed running laps with a variety of cars.
Plus, this adds another replay to my play list. :)

I did take note of the cars I've tested... Well, some of them.

BTR, RGT, Zonda C12, Z-tune Z, M3 csl...
Even some of the ones that don't hit the mark.
22b, gt concept, mine's evo...

If the R390 wasn't in this race it might be more interesting but I doubt it.
Fact is, every time a new standard is set, there is a new "fastest car."
Over time the WRS has given many of us the chance to do tons and tons of testing. Sometimes that pays off and we obtain a greater knowledge of the game to share with others; I enjoy weeks where that oppurtunity is presented.

Any way,
I'm headed back to the TVRs and RUFs.
Later. :D

BTW, what is "V6 Ima Mid Dualnote '01" ?
Pictures? :guilty:

Also, "fordgt150"
I went into the post above mine and removed that lap time.
Sorry, just didn't want a final lap time up there like that. I hope you can understand. :guilty:

Unless, maybe that was a really, really slow T2/T3?
(I don't know how many T times are in this course lol)

"smaug terrible" had an excellent question that I *think* hasn't been answered yet:

Just a quick question for Kent, CFM or whoever can answer it:

I adjusted the hp in quick tune up and it matched exactly to 400hp. But in the replay it shows 401hp. Is this okay or should I adjust it.

I have just noticed the same thing. My Session Record screen shows 400BHP but if you watch the replay it says 401??? I have the power set to +14% in the quick tune section and it says 400BHP there as well. Would really love some clarification on this one before I put too much time into it.

Thanks in advance

AHH so many cars so little time, I do like the concept of having the choice of a ride, and after scanning this thread it seems like there a few good'uns to select from.
Good to see CFM and Kent sharing the load 👍 .
I'm off to do some car trials, good luck on finding the ride that suits you.

Steve

Regarding the 1 hp bump that occurs...

Dis-regard the Replay's bump in HP.

The HP displayed in your quick tune menu is the hp you must use.

Also, make sure you are using "HP"
Do not use PS, BHP or whatever else they included for GT4.
Plain old HP is the standard for this setup. :)

Please make sure you are using HP and not PS/BHP/KW etc etc

I was playing around with the Sileighty. 244 HP at +20 and only 1251kg. Not a bad car. Low horsepower, but doesn't really need a lot of braking.

I don't think I want to jump over to the R390; I'd rather have some fun with some different cars, unless of course everyone else starts running in the Nissan. I'll run some more laps tomorrow; I might be tempted to try the Zonda C12 out.

@Koly ~ Nay this not a team week. I thought they might be refering to Teammates on the DTM series, not for sure. And maybe that was the time Kent removed also (A DTM one)

hmmm..... Very interesting event Mr. Kent. 👍 I like the track and the choices.
So many cars to choose from. Maybe something from Proto? Nah. Don't think I could keep the backend in line on that cat. Might give an M3, Ruf, or maybe the Zonda a toss later on though.

So first off jumped in the old fav from was it gt2 and 3? R390GT1 Road beast (it's better than I remember) and popped out a few laps. Best clean and overall so far:

T1- 29.844
T2- 1'06.213

Lost a few tenths on T2, but clean. Put together a great T3 though! :)
Still there's time to be had before I try another ride.

I've got to wonder how others (@Veilsidebr 1'04 WOW! ) are taking top of THE hill after T1. Brakes? Lift? Flatout? Fly all the way downhill? hehehe

It appears that the downhill braking point and entrance to RH going into the double lefts is critical to a good T2. I still don't have it quite right BTW.
Also last left sweeper before start finish can gain or cost you 7 tenths depending on how much speed you dare carry. :scared:
T1 is just about how we all learned it in the Hyundai a few weeks back. Only now we have a car that actually turns on tarmac. :D Only difference is you try and cut the chicane in as straight a line as possible before T1. And you probably want to brake a little earlier than you think to do it.

Good luck all! 👍

Thanks for the clarification Kent. I've since changed my settings to HP. It does pose another question though, does the PAL/NTSC version of the game have an advantage/disadvantage in these comps? It probably doesn't but I remember the license times were different in GT3 for each version.

Whatever the case I am suspecting veilsidebr is not human! First his jawdropping lap of the ring in the Minolta now a 1'04.xxx at T2!!!!!!!!! I think he should have to submit DNA evidence as well as his replay :)

Here are my stats so far:

CAR: Nissan R390 GT1 Road Car
T1: 0'30.149
T2: 1'06.934

Clearly the Nissan R390 will be the car of choice for like.........98% of the drivers. I am in the other 2% and will not be using it. I like the fact that I can use all these other vehicles. More fun in my opinion.

@ Koly and Teledriel, jump_ace and fordgt150 are teammates in the DTM race series. Hope that clears confusion.

i have a cool suggestion for this week, although it might be too late?~

but listen to this... Because the R390 will obviously win the week
why not make us choose 2 other cars

and add all 3 best lap times together, for a 3 lap total...

just a suggestion~

MisterWeary
It does pose another question though, does the PAL/NTSC version of the game have an advantage/disadvantage in these comps? It probably doesn't but I remember the license times were different in GT3 for each version.

Both versions drive the same, there is no advantage to either one. Some of the licenses times and mission difficulties were adjusted between versions, but they all drive the same. Like Mission 34 on NTSC is very tough, and PD realized this I believe and made it easier for PAL. Same thing with the licences, most were made harder for PAL, but some were made easier because they were too hard on NTSC in PD's opinion. That's my theory on it at least.

@hot6o4bOi - I don't think Kent will go for the multiple submission thing this time. If you ask really nice he may allow two cars per driver...I think he did that once in the past. One car for the official results and one just for fun which is for comparison sake only.

Which reminds me:

INCLUDE THE CAR THAT YOU USED IN YOUR SUBMISSION TO KENT THIS WEEK!

Hey CFM/Kent, can I please, please, please use the amuse s2000 GT1? -20% power gives it 401bhp. But if I add enough ballast to make it say 1260 could I please use it? I love that car!

Ooooh, interesting combo this week 👍 Pity the R390 seems to take the cake, but as someone said, there will always be a clear fastest car from any given stable, so...

El Capitan is a cool choice. I haven't run too many laps here before, but I think there are so many effective lines through a lot of sections we should see some surprises here :)

On the max speed slider note, you only get adjustable max speed in arcade mode if the car has a custom tranny (so it simulates adjusting gear ratios).

And the original post said "street cars" (road cars), it didn't say "anything but a race car". Could we have clarification on concept cars please? Or must the car fall into the "road car" (top left of car info screen) category?

Thanks 👍

I'm not CFM or Kent (Captain Obvious), but you can't add ballast because it has to be in arcade mode. If they allowed you to use arcade mode, everyone would do that, and tune cars, put stage 4 turbos on civics to get 400hp, all that kind of stuff.

And it doens't matter anyway because the R390 will own everything anyway. I've heard a few people say quote: 'there will always be a clear fastest car from any given stable', but no one has actually said what car that would be if the R390 road car was banned.

It's hardly a road car anyway people...Like the Toyota GT-One road car in GT3 is a road car. I often see many 900hp Le Mans 'Road Cars' driving around my supermarket'

I'd also like the concept issue cleared up, from what I've done, the quickest cat apart from the R390 is the Viper Concept, which is under Concept Car. I'm not going to use it anyway, I've picked a car, a real road car, which I enjoy and I don't care if it's 200kg over weight. The main thing is that I have fun. And isn't that what WRS is all about?

Also, do those brown bumpy things, count as rumble strips? If you don't know what I mean they are on the very left when you first start, the reason being, I have a lap with two wheels on that brown stuff, and two on the grass.
