Weekly Hot Hatch Series - Restarted

As long as it isn't pre-tuned like the HPA Golf or race/rally prepared, then you can upgrade as much or as little as you want.

Ran a 1'28.xxx in a Class 2 Suzuki Swift Sport '05. Manual shifting in the center sector of the track is annoying.

I've updated the OP with the results so far. Not long to go to get the times submitted for those wanting to take part this week though (midday UK time).

If we make week 5 the final week with the current tables and then restart with new regs, would everyone be okay with that? Also if we discuss on here what way we might want it splitting - the 4WD's are dominating both classes, so my initial thoughts are 4WD's, under 2 and over 2, so three classes against the original 2.

I think I've determined that my CR-Z is rubbish compared to everyone else's car. I did a lot better than expected in my STi though.

I don't have a problem restarting after this race, 5 is as good a stopping point as any. My only worry about splitting the AWD cars off is that with three classes each class gets less competitive.

I was also thining of settim my GT5 lounge to the track - so if people want to, they can practise together and have a bit of friendly banter. Keep the times to in practise mode though, in case the online gameplay / physics changes anything. Would anybody else be interested?

How would 2 classes, 2l and above (with ALL AWD cars included as class 1) and Class 2 being below 2l and non AWD.

I like that idea:tup: How about having no 2l and above class and just having a 4wd and 2wd under 2l classes? I don't think anything can touch the subaru wrx.

Personally I'd just put the 4WD cars into the higher bracket. I'd also be tempted to limit the lower bracket to FF only, as that also keeps the Renault 5 Turbo out of it, and doesn't restrict it too much beyond that (As far as I'm aware, the only other car that would limit is the AE86).

There are so many comparable FF cars in the lower bracket, it'd give us some more freedom to be competetive with.

Yes and yes.

Isn't the Renault 5 Turbo in GT5 the race car version rather then the road going one, so should be banned on that rule?

Yes and yes.

Feel free to add me on PSN. ID is coyle1982. My lounge atm is Tokyo, but when Bob has finished this Dream Car even, i'll change it to this weeks track.

Lookls like we are getting a bit of a consensus with regards to the way forward. So far it would be;

To fall into Class 2, the engine needs to be under 2.0l and drivetrain is FF. If your car fails either of these criteria, it is a Class 1 vehicle.

A lot of good ideas. I do agree something should be done with the AWD. There are a lot of 2L hatches that just aren't competitive at all because of the STi. The car is just in another league compared to the other cars available. If there was a WRX it'd fit the competition better, but the STi is so much faster than a VW GTI, which is in the same class at the moment.

Maybe the rule changes could include a 2.0L or below for one class and greater than 2 in another? Is the STi in the game 2 or 2.5? Maybe that would put too many cars in the lower class though.

Enough rambling.

Maybe we could have a different class every week? Have 4wd 2.0L one week, 2wd 1.6L, FF 1.4L etc.. we could make up different hatchback classes every week to try make other cars more competetive.

Possibly have one class, 2l and under Ff, and then have a floating challenge class that changes from week to week?

Like I said, this is why we'll have another week if this run before making the plunge with anything radical!

doh, unable to take part this week. Would you be able to change the end time to some time at night, the later the better.

2liter and below FF only would be fun. I like the idea of a weakly class change in addition to that, the only downside is the availability of cars that fit into whatever class you choose (finding standards in the used lot). Upside, you could toss in some tuned car, or rally car classes one week 👍

I think this is the best idea I've seen so far.

Add me as a psn friend, then under community, join the lobby. Of course I'd need to be in to accept your friend request...maybe tomorrow now!

How is everyone getting on so far? It took me a while to put in a clean lap! I'm on 1.25's with the Impreza and 1.28's with the S3. The flow to the course is completely alien to me though - just feels strange.

Should be sending in times tonight, can't say I'm a fan of the track really. I've only done the CR-Z so far, but you're a good several seconds faster in your S3. Time for the STi.

I think I've found the first track that I can say I hate! When I've done it previously in A-Spec and the seasonals, I thought it was relatively fun and had a good flow, but I think the reversing doesn't work. To make the track selection (and avoid another lemon!) are there any track people particularly dislike? The other option is I trial tracks in a non-hatch but good handling car and see what I think would make a good track.

Also, season 2 week 1 is fast approaching. Is everyone happy with Class 1 being under 2l and FWD. Class 2 would be a floating week to week challenge.

Your class idea is fine by me. 👍

I think how ever you've chosen the tracks previously (random?) has been fine. Every track has people who hate it, so no use in trying to avoid that. I'm not sure if you intend to mix in some real tracks as well, but some of them would work well for hatches I think.

My only track request would be that the laps stay aroundish 1:30. Doing laps of a 2:00+ course takes a lot longer to put in a good time.

I have an intense dislike of Monza and Le Sarthe - and I'll agree that this week's one feels wrong somehow. I really quite like it the other way round though.

In the end I've only put in 10 laps or so, too busy with other things.
