Weekly Race Week 12: Tokyo R246

Sorry about the last week, it shouldn't have even been held at all... Bah. :banghead:

Oh well, here we are at a new week, let's not dwindle on the past.

It's everybody's favourite track, Tokyo! The single lap points comp will "officially" start this week, so let's all try as hard as we can. ;)

THE RACE: Tokyo R... Whatever friggin number it is.

THE RULES:

1. No hybrids
2. No wall riding
3. No shortcuts
4. No cheating
5. Save your replay
6. If possible, upload your replay onto the forums
7. A photo of your time is not required, but can be added if you like.
8. Please, NTCSers, don't use any of the 900hp + monsters
9. Running wide is allowed, but obviously it will slow your time.
10. The rumble strip is considered part of the track.
11. Have fun.

THE DEADLINE: The dealine for your time to be in is Sunday, midnight, your time (meaning that you can race til 11:59 your local time then give me your time).

Testing will be held on the Free Run version of the course, with the actual race being held in the Hard Single Race mode. You can run the race as many times as you like to get the best time possible.

Testing officially starts now, and will finish on Friday, with racing time being all weekend.

You can discuss all of your intermediate times, but not you're whole lap. You can give generalisations, ie "I got down below 1'20", but not specific lap times.

Man this IS my favourite track like I said before. But I am taking a summer class at the same time... The final exam is coming up soon so I dont know if Im gonna make it to do a complete race.

For those interested my best lap in free run so far is under the mid 1'08 's. Dont know when this will be updated.. if at all.
 
Hmmm, '08s, eh? Watch for my... Erm... 1'09 then. :lol:

No really, I'll be aiming for at least 1'08 this week...
 
i must say tho i ended up taking the setup at GTvault to get me started on this one. But now I fixed it to my liking. Im gonna have to check out some of my setup's tho cuz I was racing my older brother on R246 and I could take the huge 180 curve shortly after T1 at full speed (~176 mph or something close to 280-290 kmh), and I havent been able to figure out how to do that since ( setup wise ).
 
running in the 8's as well so far, will be trying to break into the 7's by the end of the week
 
I haven't had a go yet, I will as soon as I get off here. ;)

ill give this ago since ive done enough arcade stages to unlock tokyo
 
all i can say is ****ee low 1:12's with poly1 man is ne one else this slow i could get about 1 -2 sec faster if i do aperfect lap
 
Its all in the settings. I remember doing a lap which i thought was perfect of R246 about a year ago. Saved the replay and all cuz I felt that beating that time was impossible. Well that time was a 1'11.5xx. Since I started racing in this series, I started to become better with the tuning, hence now I am a full 3 seconds faster compared to my "perfect" lap from a year ago.

Touched a high 1:07 this week, have never broken 1:07. Seems like I really nail the course and am still FAR from the record. Oh well. My main olr priority right now is the KOTS4 over at the times so I might not get in a run :(

Dammit, I'm not happy at all with my times. I KNOW that I should be running around the low-'08 to high-'07 mark, but I'm always stuffing up lines or braking points, or grazing the wall, which takes .5 - .8 of a sec off my times. GRRR!

Well I'm not going to actually give you a setting; you can figure that out for yourself. I'll just give you what I think to be good numbers. :)

Spring Rate: Low/low
Ride Height: Mid/mid
Damper Bound: High/high
Rebound: As above
Camber: Low or none.
Toe: Low or none.

Brake Balance: Mid/mid

LSD: Low/low/low

Downforce: I can't help you there; you'll have a feel for what sort of downforce suits you.

TCS: 1-3

ASM: --

Well that there is what I consider to be a good setup for Tokyo. Others may have preferences, but when I get my crap together, that will guaranteed take me into the 1'07s.

If I break into the 9's I'll be happy !
 
Im not submitting a time this weekend and its 100% sure. I have to prepare for my final exam thats coming up on wednesday. After than Im free to put in as much time as I want in this :) ... until i got to go back to school :banghead:
 
Can this race be a two week race ?? The next one is Deep Forest II which feels like we did it not so long ago, even if it wasnt the reverse. And if it can be postponed i can actually have a time in for Tokyo R246. Stupid final exam... I guess Im abit selfish, maybe someone else feels we should maybe have another week on this one?:dopey:

I think we should mix it up somehow or the series might die. Maybe cut it to 7 more races. Make a points system. Make one race with the poly 002/88s, make the finale race on FGT some track. JMO
 
Im not losing interest, I just dont have time because of my stupid summer class for which my final exam is coming up on friday. Why do I need to know electronics to be a computer engineer...:rolleyes:

well bud, open any computer and what do you see....thats right a gerbil in a wheel powering windows98...

or is it electronics?....anyhow...if you need help in electronics, thats my area, i have a BEng(Hons) in Electronic Engineering...just ask

by the way, i am back after a long break....hey, you need somone to make you guys look fast...and here i am to take up last place again..

Very nice there TurboSmoke. If I do graduate, I doubt it will be with Honours. Havent been trying too hard in the first two years. This electronics class is going ok. Diodes, Transistors( BJT's and MOSFET's ) and amplifiers (still transistors). So there isnt that much material, specially considering the MOSFET part is only about the NMOS or PMOS, never CMOS. BJT's are pretty easy to analyse in d.c. , sort of a bit more tricky for a.c. but Im getting there. I just hate it when they start putting capacitors in the circuits. Then it becomes a first order circuit, and you have to switch your stuff to the Laplace Transform and so on... find the 3-dB point blah blah blah. This is the one thing Im still not sure of.

What kind of work do you do? Design electronic circuits?
 
Oh yes...the joys of laplace and Z transforms mixed with fourrier analysis and differential closed loop control systems....its all part of the fun.....(it has bugger all to do with computer maintainance, agreed)

i teach this stuff part time at a local college in the evenings, foundation eletronics, not the mathematical wizardry of laplace, so ac circuit theory with caps, inductors, transistor amps and fresh in my mind...

i also am a partner and co-founder of a web development business...i get to go out and chase clients and fix the computers and handle upgrades, make the coffee, change the light bulb, do the invoices and accounts, and do the occasional bit of C/C++, Java and web to hardware development...its not web design as such, we are a project developer in blue tooth technologies...right now were doing some stuff for a client to remotely control a security system from the comfort of a computer miles away....theres only 3 of us at the moment but we hope to expand....

Heh this week 12 race was supposed to be over by last Sunday... guess alot of ppl had other things to do. After tomorrow afternoon (exam) I'll be free to get back into this. I will then see you on the track :)
 
i am not really my own boss...the other guys i work with are are workaholics and its a team....i have to put in a lot but the pay at this moment in time is poor....why do you think i have two jobs...

once the business is up and running properly and starts paying its way i'll have more time to dedicate to my family and stop the teaching...

Its all over now :) Im free to race again for awhile without too much hassle. So since nothing has happened in awhile here, Im gonna be submitting a time for TR246 this sunday night. Hope most of you will do the same.
 
Even if there is low participation, we shouldn't just change the deadline. Sand should post results and we move on to deep forest 2.
 
Where is SS? Are we sticking with TR246 for this week and passing to DF II next week?? Anyhow, I'll be submitting a race time for Tokyo tomorrow night. I hope I'm not the only one. This thread hasn't been updated in a while in terms of racing :( Maybe everyone will miraculously show up? :confused:
