THE FORZA 7 WEEKLY RIVALS MODE THREAD

Rivals Header.png

Something to get a bit more interest in Forza 7, and based on the idea that has surfaced from this thread:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/i-really-wish-they-would-reinstate-the-e-to-x-class-rivals-hot-laps.370417/

Thanks to @BoneSawTX for the idea and @ImaRobot for the encouragement.

Brief rundown of format and rules:

I'm gonna start by picking a car division and a track each week and inviting anyone from GTP to have a blast and post your best time.

1. You can obviously have as many laps as you want and try all different cars within the division to get your best time.
2. Cars must be within homologation rules of course and will then appear on the official Leaderboards as well, but post them here for a bit of added fun and competition from the members.
3. You can of course tune the car(s) to your heart's content.
4. Use any assists you so desire (drive the way you normally would).

That's about it really. If this becomes popular enough I may open it to a vote each week to select the division and track.

Deadline for entry is 6pm SHARP (GMT) each Wednesday, at which point I will compile a leaderboard and decide on the new track and division for the coming week. At 6pm I will take a screenshot of the times (will really help if we're friends on Xbox tbh) and post the results here.
Winner each weeks receives critical acclaim from the community and the adulation of his or her peers.

First run of 8 laps ended ugly lol
1995 911 GT2 2:06.614

Going to try a car tomorrow I haven’t drove yet, not sure which one yet.

Once the kids are in bed tonight and I have "me time" I'm hitting the track with a Lotus Esprit :D

So I'm guessing the only way to make your time register is by actually doing a lonesome race in freeplay? Why do they make this so difficult. I tuned a Sagaris last night and was pretty pleased with it, it actually produced a good time in Test Drive, but I think I want to use one of the more oddball vehicles. I was tempted by the 300zx!

Yep it’s a head scratcher, but that’s what I did. Set the diveatards to pro so they were out of my way after the first lap.

I'm just going to set the drivatars to 0, and eliminate that issue all together lol. Is there any way to follow any ghosts?

I didn’t even look to see if you could set them to zero lol. As for ghost I couldn’t find a way to turn that on.

Lol yeah, and I think you'll still get the credit bonus increase for the difficulty used. Ah that's a shame.. I can still produce good enough times, but I always seem to do better when I follow someone.

You can turn them on in the options :D in free play
If you're talking about the ghost, I did see one when I was in FreePlay, using the Test Drive feature, but there was no way to pick what ghost you want to race against.

sorry yes you can just race your first lap and then best lap ghost after that, no ghost rivals :banghead: so you have your own ghost that’s it

Yeah there isn't actually any kind of "rivals mode" which is really annoying. At least it does give some kind of credence to this thread since now we have a target rather than arbitrarily picking cars and tracks for ourselves. Running against 23 ghosted drivatars on the highest difficulties will at least award a lot of credits each time as well (that's what I'm doing).

2:04.480 is the best I can do so far.
I don't even remember setting that lap  I was testing multiple cars, and must not have realized I was setting lap times. So far I managed 2:01 in the Sagaris in test drive, but I'm still testing to see if any other cars seem worthwhile. That GTR definitely was not.

I do adore Skylines and GT-Rs in the real world (obviously) but they are usually donkeys in Forza, much to my dismay. Rarely use them unless it's essential for a particular race.

@-Fred- not a bad time at all, I need to up my game

I like the idea of weekly forum leaderboards, that's worth considering...

Just gave it a go in a base Lotus Esprit 697 no tuning and whatever parts the system put on it turned 2:04.939 in the first race.

I may tweak the setup a bit and try again or may try one of the other cars from that division.

As for racing the AI and posting times for those who do not know already go into race set up then advanced rules and set collisions to always off. This turns all AI cars into ghosts as you get close to them and keeps them from blocking you, hitting you or making your laps dirty while still allowing you to collect credits for a full field on whatever difficulty you choose to run on.

Edit: Second run in the Lotus after modifying the setup a bit yielded a 2:03.275. Still no real tuning on it but the modified setup is definitely a bit better than the default. Roughly 1.7 seconds faster than before of course some of that was likely due to the previous run and getting a bit more used to the car/track.

Going to try the 288 GTO a couple of times and see how it does.

Giving this a go, Just tryed the Nissan GTR-LM. Couldnt see on the leaderboard so thought it would be an underdog, just to realize its just called GTR '95 and got the top spot :banghead:

Mabe il try to see if i cant make the Ferrari 612 scagliugly the fastest Ferrari in prague

Edit:
Took me an hour. #22 in the world with a time of 01:59.776.

I dont like driving backwards, what if i share my tune, can i still play? :nervous:

Sharing your tune would be like a magician showing us "how he did it", which kinda ruins the amazement :D

Since it's Christmas time I will allow you to continue to embarrass my meagre efforts
That 1:59.776 is a stunning time though, I nearly killed myself getting 2:04.480 in the Lotus...

There's really no hocus pocus to my lap times. I'v been playing racing games for 20++ years?
And racing games is basicly all i play.

I remember going to school early, like 1 hour before anyone else clocked in, so i could play this
http://www.freegameempire.com/games/Grand-Prix-Circuits
And still there is aliens out there that does 2-3sec's pr lap faster then me, im still mortal. So sharing my setups wouldnt be a problem.

Last week i tryed Slappsvela's setup for the Aston martin Vulcan. It took 1½sec of my lap around The Alps Club Circuit.(Short Track)

So if anyone would like to see my setup/tune on the 612, il be happy to post it here :gtpflag:

There's really no hocus pocus to my lap times.

My downfall IS tuning. I've been playing racing games myself since Gran Turismo in 1997 (20 years also) but have never taken much interest in tuning until recently, and still I don't understand suspension setups - which we all know is probably the most important part.
There are far too many variables for "trial and error", and I don't know where to start or what I need to change to get desired results. I don't even know what the desired result I'm trying to achieve should be.

If my understanding of suspension setups was compared to reading a Murder Mystery novel; I haven't even got far enough to know what it was they did, never mind "who done it" :D

I guess thats what most people dont get about Forza, there's alot to be gained from the right bulid of the car. And it all depends of the track

For the 612, on prague. Iv gone with full tyre width front and rear, full weight reduction and full forza aero. and stock Hp.

Now for Daytona infield i went with as close to max hp as i could get, still manage to get full weight reduction, but went with stock brakes and tyre width. no aero and stock gearbox, after a few tries im sitting #3 in the world with the 612.

I thought the 612 was going to be a boat to drive but it's surprisingly nimble for such a big car. Just managed to pip you with a 01:59:574 #20, took about 20 laps and a thousand rewinds to figure out the best way through those last few corners!

Also wanna say guys - if you're interested in me compiling a weekly leaderboard, add me on Xbox if you haven't already (gamertag: IamValhalla) to make it easier for me to simply go to my friends list in the leaderboard and jot the times down for here.

@RPM Bibblefish - great effort.

Thats where i keep loosing time too those last corners, call it a busstop or meatgrinder.. if your ahead of yourself they will mess you up. Its too late for me to give it another go, but i will see if i can get on tomorrow with a fresh mind and try to redeem meself.

Other then that. Good job! 👍

I absolutely hate that double chicane right after the bridge, the game has some weird hitboxes regarding what's clean and what's not.

Seems to be quite similar to (at least the older) Gran Turismos where a very light clip to the front or rear of the car is deemed illegal, but you can often almost slam sideways into some scenery and get away with it.
